The end of an era. I'm sure that Phil & Alice would have loved to continue their series. But RCA, their sponsor, wasn't satisfied with the small number of listeners tuning in every week (more people were watching "THE BIG STORY" on NBC TELEVISION at that hour), and decided to spend their advertising budget on TV "spectaculars" {and co-sponsorship on other TV programs} that fall. Without sponsorship- and the rising cost of staging a weekly sitcom with songs *and* an orchestra- NBC decided to end the program after eight years.
Phil Harris had a wonderful sense of humor.
