  • Like most things, The Brookwood Community grew out of necessity. It was started in 1985 with just one 'citizen'. Now nearly 200 adults with disabilities live at, or participate in the day program, on the 475-acre campus in Brookshire, Texas. Brookwood helps people with a wide range of disabilities by giving them meaningful jobs and the ability to support themselves. The Brookwood Community truly builds a sense of belonging for all who live there or visit.

As the parent of a neurodivergent child, I lost it when she said “we don’t have timelines here.” How beautiful!

I want to know that I want a man who is in a wheelchair who served in the military, and was wounded to use a machine pistol to do this kind of butchery against every male in this environment in the name of George Walker Bush, and I want a woman who was in the exact same situation to this exact same act in the name of Laura Lane Welsh Bush for what type of neglect people who are unable to walk who served in the military, and were wounded in combat!

I have autism spectrum disorders but I'm not moving to a residential care facitility until I'm Clint Eastwood's age if I'm still alive by then and feel like it.

Ahhhh. The beauty. This is my dream for Watauga County. Thank you for the inspiration. How perfect.

I understand about what your dream is about this place for the county you talked about, and I want you to know that I have a dream for these places to become a human butcher shop for wheelchair-bound veterans that got wounded in combat, and I want that to be done in the name of people like George W. bush, and that means yes that every man can do this act of violence against every male in this establishment for who I just mentioned, and every female who is in a wheelchair under the same set of circumstances can do this exact same set of violence in the name of Laura W. bush, and I want somebody to stand their ground, because of the fact that there's no excuse for some revolving door like this, because certain people will then try to push other people into these kind of environments and you know that is the truth when they say I don't have anybody normal in my life!

I just don't like it to describe people with disabilities. It doesn't convey equality with the mainstream. Yet, people use that term as a synonym to being disabled and living day-to-day, which just promotes jealousy rather than acceptance. Then it just entrenches our issues. Since I have Asperger Syndrome, I don't like to think that I'm special just for existing and being the average person. Everyone can do something special that makes them unique but it doesn't mean existing with a condition that nobody knows or thinks they can cope.

It is an awesomely wonderful place here. The only thing that bothers me is that I feel a little sad that these people need a special place to be living normally. They should fit into society anywhere. Not that they are incapable of it. I think in some places we just don't make room for them to be themselves.

The truth of the matter is the vast majority of people in society link learning disabilities & learning difficulties to low intelligence
which couldn't be further from the truth in many cases many people with learning disabilities & learning difficulties are very highly intelligent individuals
how ever when such types of individuals declair having disabilities & difficulties people draw preconceived ideas and place them in to a box in order to try and make sense of them and in doing so in many case draw misconceptions in the process resulting in them being treated indifferently
treating them as if they are a slow low intelligence halfwit through which results in them been placed in a situation completly out of their control resulting in anguish and frustration these kinds of people dont have to act or behavior in any specific way just declaring the fact they having special needs will instantly have them been deamed as thick by the ignorant masses how ever those in video appear to be very low Spectrum and sadly people consider that all people who fall under the umbrella term Special Needs to be the same
