First Hands-On Tablet Experience at Nyarutembe Community School!

- In this inspiring video, while on his way to the eLearning Conference Africa, The African travelling teacher visited Nyarutembe Community School to conduct a digital literacy session. For the first time, these enthusiastic learners got to experience practical use of tablets, transitioning from theoretical ICT lessons to hands-on learning. Watch the excitement and curiosity unfold as the students explore the world of technology, opening up new opportunities for their future.
This session was a launch of the Cultural Canvas Project, a collaboration between Western Academy of Beijing, The African Travelling Teacher, and Nyarutembe Community School in Kisoro District, Southwestern Uganda. The project is designed to explore global citizenship through art and music. Students from Beijing and Uganda use art to share cultural stories, uploading videos of their artwork and narratives to Learning Equity’s Kolibri platform, enabling cross-cultural learning without internet access.
Nyarutembe Community Secondary School is located over 600 km from Kampala in southwestern Uganda. The school was founded to provide local students with secondary education, sparing them a 15 km daily walk. WAB (Western Academy of Beijing) art students created and sold artwork to fund tablets for connecting with Ugandan students. Francis Bizoza, The African Travelling Teacher, is supporting the students of Nyarutembe community SS to teach them how to use the tablets and watch videos uploaded by WAB students. The project will continue with additional exchanges between WAB, Nyarutembe school, and a middle school in Kampala.

This is a very wonderful opportunity for students from very rural communities in Uganda to connect to the rest of the world, more so from the moat developed country in the world-China, indeed this is the real meaning of global citizenship .

When I was in primary school they used to say that The world has became a Global Village, but then it was difficult for me conceptulised this fact. My dream is to help learners from communities that have made us, be in position to conceptualise what I couldn't then.
