Spyderco is the kind of company that America NEEDS more of...Spyderco couldn't be what it is without the innovative ideas and design skills of Sal and Eric but, they also clearly have a skilled, experienced, hard working team of employees that have been treated fairly allowing the company to grow and retain their desired levels of quality.....it is a pleasure to spend MY hard earned money on their products...it is a distinct feeling you get from holding and using a Spyderco knife...only the BEST knife companies out there convey their passion through their products..and that is an art in itself
@@kalijasin Absolutely not the last. There are plenty left, but spyderco does stand pretty high up the list. The Glesser's passion, dedication and honesty is something that everyone can learn from and should strive to match. With the knife world full of Greg Medfords and Mick Striders, its nice to have Sal and Eric to do their part in bringing our hobby out of the mud that certain makers seem proud to drag it into.
Every few months this video pops up in the auto play and once it starts I watch it all the way through. Each time it reminds me what makes Spyderco so different from many of the other “big” production company, which is the Glesser’s commitment to both making a performance based knife and their pride in doing so. These days when I think of other brands like Benchmade, Kershaw, etc. there’s no face to the brand name giving a true commitment to the product and customer. Long live Spyderco!
ApexKnives Really? Why is it so important that your edge is not off 1°? I’ll take an edge created by a human please. Not only is it traditional but it’s rather amazing that it still takes place, and happens less and less. It’s just something unique. Plenty of automation in this world already and there will always be more and more. Furthermore, I find that real knife users create their own edge angle for their specific tasks once they bring a knife home...So what a robot does to the edge isn’t that important. If you like these videos watch the 3 part one on GEC or The UA-cam video on Puma. Then decide what you want to do. Help somebody buy another machine or support humans creating knives.
It's 2023 and I'm still impressed with Spyderco after having handled several of their knives over the years. All the Spydercos I buy are keepers, none will ever be traded or sold, that's how much I love them.
Really appreciate that he's trying something different with his kid and is completely open about it. Basically did a round-a-bout way of saying, "This is not a family dynasty we're trying to build, this is a company with a focus and goal that needs to be maintained through high standards. Maybe he'll like knives and work towards being part of the company...maybe he won't and either way is excellent!" I have a feeling his kid is going to do very well in life with a parent that has a view like that.
Bought my Spyderco Embassy back in 2012 when I was on active duty. It's been my daily carry every day since then throughout the end of my time on active and my entire time in the reserves up to this point and it's still running like a champ.
Spyderco is one of my favorite companies and after watching this video it's for good reason! i love supporting quality american companies that came from humble beginnings! Great video and series! Also that sharpening robot is badass!!
Amazing brand with a beautiful history! I own 11 Spyderco knives (PM2, Delica, Dragonfly and Tenacious) and they are the most incredible tools. Beautifully designed, premium materials and work in a flawless way. You have build an amazing brand and I am proud to be your customer. Thank you for let me be a part of your story. Best regards from Portugal to all Spyderco family. 😀
Yes, very cool video. I'm really diging the whole Spyderco evolution thing. I Just bought a Paramilitary 2 for my Father's 70th Birthday. It will be his first Spyderco. I'm sure he'll love it. Thanks guy's for the video, and thank you Sal and Eric for your passion for the industry.
13:55 The dreaded red thread locker..lol. I’m so glad they switched to blue thread locker and allow you to open and clean your knives without voiding your warranty.
Being in manufacturing myself, this video gave me a great since of pride. I’m recently new to Spyderco, and the minute I pulled it out of the box I felt the craftsmanship and pride they put into their product. What an awesome company. I’d love to be a machinist for them.
Two years ago I visited the Golden operation. I was so impressed I had to break down and buy another knife while I was there. I bought the Manix 2 sprint run knife burled g-10. S90V steel, what an awesome knife. I EDC it's big brother daily, the Manix 2 XL. My first folding knife ever was the Endura . I then started my knife adventure. I have purchased all the big names and stayed mostly around the $300.00 mark. So it's safe to say I have a lot of really neat knives. But I eventually circled back to Spyderco, made on planet Earth. For the last four years my everyday carry has had a spyder hole. Your family owned business is an AMERICAN success story that is very great and very inspiring . I think I might go on line and buy a paramilitary. ;)
I love the fact these guys build knives the right American way..the best...something you can handown to your grandkids n its just as nice as when you bought it...im a fan and customer for life. Thanks
I have owned a Spyderco knife in one model or another for over 20 years. It is my opinion that they are the toughest and finest quality knives ever made. My Spyderco knife is in my pocket every day and goes everywhere with me. Gentlemen, you make a great product and don't ever stop!
Eric if you are watching this, I love what you are doing to further your father's business. Can I make a humble suggestion? Make deep carry pocket clips standard on future models? Especially the paramilitary 2?? Pretty please?!?
It’s not too often that you are able to connect faces and people with the products that you love. This video helped me to do just that and now I have a greater appreciation and respect for Spyderco as a company.
Man what a great company... You don't see many honest companies like this around anymore. Everyone is 100% money oriented and it's nice to see people that care more about their product. Nice job guys!
Thankyou for sharing a beautiful and on going success story!!Spyderco rocks and I'm proud to be able to carry one. As a Canadian we are so fortunate to have the access and availability of such a phenominal product as Spyderco. We salute you.
I'm new (8weeks) to the whole knife community/world and started with a CRKT Ruger knife for 39,95 I have watched many video's and I'm loving the hobby more and more. Orderd 2 Spyderco's (PM2 and the Tenacious) and my gawdddd I love it. I wanted to know Spyderco better and this mini docu gave Spyderco a face to the brand. Now I love my Spyderco's even more!
Thank you for making such useful and beautiful knives. I wouldn't even want to imagine going through life without the Spydercos I own. And I want MORE!!!
I saved up for 3 months to afford a maxamet para 2, and just to hold it and look at it you can see the passion and craftsmanship that goes into such a qualify knife. I appreciate there high standards and am happy to give every cent to Spyderco USA.
Excellent video, and a fabulous company. Thanks, Sal, for your entrepreneurial spirit and a product that gives tremendous value for my hard-earned buck!
These guys never fail to deliver on the best innovation in the industry. I've sunk a bunch of money into Spyderco products over the years, and I've never once regretted a single purchase. I prefer buying their US made knives, Manix 2 in G-10 is my all time favorite. But their suppliers in Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China also consistently achieve perfection.
Spyderco knives are my favorite and in my opinion, the best knives I've ever owned! Each spyderco knife that I own makes me a repeat customer! Keep up the good work!
About 28 yrs ago not knowing much about Spyderco I went to their parking lot sale for 2nds and ended up leaving $600 lighter as the quality of those knives was exceptional and made great Christmas Presents. Since that time found the Paramilitary a great addition to EDC, being a first responder added last year their automatic knife, that is exceptional and razor sharp. With any folder type knife the lock up is to me the most important aspect to keep one's fingers. Never disappointed in their products.
I've watched these videos several times over the years. Just wanted to say thank you again, for doing what you do,, I own several knives, and I think you are the most innovative company in the world,. I just need a Military now, to make my collection complete,,.. Thank you most sincerely..

Kick ass video, Mark and Jaron. Way to go. Love Spyderco all the more because of this. I can truly be proud to purchase a knife from Spyderco. PS. The Resilience is my EDC, it is an absolutely outstanding knife for it's price.
Thanks Spyderco for the great product! I started buying your product around 1980 and my Dad bought the knives since the start,so we have some of the old ones and the new....Great stuff!
Hands down Spyderco is my favorite with Benchmade a close second. If you’re a knife lover like me wether or not you like Spyderco knives you have to appreciate how much they’ve helped innovate so much of what every other knife you buy today uses something that was inspired by Spyderco like pocket clips and easy one hand open just to name a few. The first knife that got me hooked on knives was a Spyderco Native early model bought it at Walmart in the 90s. It was made in America and I it cost around $40.00. They no longer make or sell it as far as I know but it wasn’t made to take apart like they are now.
Great video - a real treat to get an insight like this into one of the great production knife makers of our time. The growing (Eric seems hopeful) family heritage in the business is great to see.
I remember years ago, the first Spyderco I saw my comment was, "what an ugly knife." All the years that have gone by and I still had the same feelings towards them. Three months ago I was in a local gun and knife store and asked the clerk if I could look at one of those knives with the big hole in the blade. I don't know if it's because I'm older and wiser now, but when I stuck the edge of my thumb in the spider hole and gave it a flick and felt the ergo's of the knife in my hand, I raised an eyebrow and said that feels nice. And the hole all made sense now. I knew it was used to deploy the blade but didn't think it worked that good, until I gave it a flick. It was actually easier than any of my thumb stud blades to open. I was hooked. I decided right then I was going to buy one and give it a try. Problem was, there were two I kept switching back and forth, trying to pick which one I wanted and couldn't make up my mind. In the end I wound up purchasing both, and am very happy I did. All my other favorite EDC folders have now been set on the back burner. I'm now carrying the Spyderco's more than any of them. Great knives, great company, great people.
Just really getting back into knives after a long hiatus and really glad this came up on my feed. Super cool story and always was intrigued by spyderco in the 80s & 90s but they were just out of my price range. Looking forward to adding a salt to my collection in the near future! Thx spyderco and bladehq
This video made me REALLY respect the spyderco family. I was born in 1981 as well, so it makes me feel a kinship since they made there first knife in 81!
The story behind this company is similar to Victorinox, I think both are awesome with an amazing story behind them that makes me appreciate carrying them. I had no knowledge about Spyderco's story until today. They just became my number one and They have a new loyal customer. I just got my first Spyderco the s30v Manix 2 ffg in the mail 2 hours ago and I cant put it down. It blows me away the work, detail, quality and love this family put in their products.
Tenacious was my first spyderco that sent me down a looong path of love and respect for the brand. Got an old stainless delica 2 from a garage sale a long time ago. I had no idea what a lucky find that was!
I've owned 6 different models of Spyderco's most popular offering ranging from $35 to $160 and the only one I have held onto is the Dragonfly2. However, this video has motivated me to test drive a few others I had been eying up.
My manix 2 cost me around 100 dollars , it's a beautiful , functional American made knife with exceptional ergonomics and in my opinion aesthetically very pleasing . This knife was 107 if I recall and I got 5 times more than I originally thought! I just can't say enough about it .
So funny that the son (when he was younger) did not like the round hole, but now loves it... Is pretty much me as a kid running around the mall looking at knives. They always had Spyderco, I didnt know then...but I would become addicted to the round hole years later.
I remember going into a locksmith shop in UK decades ago and first seeing the Q range with their cut out blades like a spiders web. They were razor sharp and very detailed. Cult design with powerful branding even then. Now I own a Dragonfly 2 & a fully serrated Tenacious.
It is very cool to gain a perspective on the people who are running such a good company. I'll be buying an American Spyderco for my next knife I think.
I own and carry a lot of different knives. But when I have to do a lot of cutting, I reach for a Spyderco. Thanks to Blade HQ for another great video series.
world-class. Nice job KnifeHQ, and Spyderco. BTW, last night I asked Massad Ayoob to recommend an EDC glass breaker, and he recommended Spyderco's rescue knives.
For anyone wondering, they are using Wiha screwdrivers to assemble your favorite Spyderco's. Figured I'd throw that out there in case you wanted to service your knife.
Just received my first Spyderco! A smallfly 2 WOW what a great & interesting style to be able to edc! I am a janitor at a casino & I always carry a Leatherman sidekick but a pocket knife for backup. This smallfly 2 fills so many slots & is utilitarian ! 🤙🏼🔥 The price tag was kind of high 🤷🏼♂️ but at least I have a knife that I know will out live me 😸

That sharpening robot is the coolest thing ever! It also explains why a few of my latest Spydies have had nearly perfect edge bevels :)

Love my Endura 4 in the brown. Best coloration in brown I have ever seen.
I really like spyderco knives. They’re beautiful
7:20 shows why their edge grind is always good .
I can't say that for the Benchmade's I've owned.
Spyderco knives are my favorite and in my opinion, the best knives I've ever owned! Each spyderco knife that I own makes me a repeat customer! Keep up the good work!

That was very enjoyable to watch, both parts. Just bought me a Manix 2 with S110V and blue G10 scales and man ohhhhh man what a fantastic knife!!!!
Thanks Spyderco !
And thanks BladeHQ for this great documentary.
Thank you guys... proud owner of 6 of your knives here ! ;)

I just ordered my first Spyderco...a para 3! Absolutely loved this video. Learning the history if the American company was fascinating.
Thank you Sal for all you did to better the industry
I've carried a Spyderco knife for over 25 years. Respect.
Excellent video of an excellent company! I LOVE my ever growing collection of spyderco's.
How fascinating, and wonderful to see the family involvement !

Great company. I visited Spyderco when I was in Colorado last year.
This little film has honestly made me that much more proud to own my Spydies. I really hope to meet Sal and Eric one day.
Excellent Company and my first choice for Folding Knives.
I have as many Spydercos as all my other brands combined..
Amazing story. Thank you!
My first spyderco was a G10 Police model. My second is the Persistence. I love them both and they always get nice comments when I pull them out.
world-class. Nice job KnifeHQ, and Spyderco. BTW, last night I asked Massad Ayoob to recommend an EDC glass breaker, and he recommended Spyderco's rescue knives.
Awesome video! Love my Spyderco knifes.
Superb video and a great family story.
Excellent video series. These vids truly inspired me.
For anyone wondering, they are using Wiha screwdrivers to assemble your favorite Spyderco's. Figured I'd throw that out there in case you wanted to service your knife.
More of these please!
Love it.
