I have general rule never paid more for a open game that cost more with came out in retail price. For example I never pay more than 49.99 for a PS2 game because thats what the retail price at the time. The only time I paid more than retail price if the game is still seal but if its already pre-owned I always keep this rule on mind
@@maartenn2217 That just a personal rule for myself to not overspend of a used pre-owned item. It helps me for self control and have a budget at the same time.
I think my two most expansive games are Ogre Battle 64 cib that I got from a thrift store for $5. And Fire Emblem on GameCube that I bought when it came out for $39.99
Most expensive game I ever bought was my CIB copy of Fire Emblem for the GBA. I got it for myself as a grad school graduation gift and paid $200. I don’t tend to pay market value for games but It’s in pristine shape and decided it would be worth it to complete my CIB Fire Emblem game collection (only missing the Fates Special Edition but I honestly don’t care too much to get it since I already have revelations digital.) Runner up is Persona 2: Eternal Punishment on PS1 which I paid about $170 for. It was missing the manual but I custom printed one and changed the jewel case for it.
I've spent a good bit on games but I've been collecting for roughly 15 years. Collecting for so long has allowed me to get some great deals over years that really look great with today's values. Earthbound CIB for $400 back in 2016, Super Bowling for $30 back in 2015 I think, $200 for Mighty Final Fight CIB years ago, $120 for a sealed Street Fighter on original Gameboy years ago, $10 Pokemon Gameboy games CIB years ago... But I've also paid $1500 for Little Samson a few years ago, $1,500 for Bonks Adventure on NES CIB a couple of years ago, and $1,800 for Pokemon Box at Southeast Game Exchange exchange this year. So I've gotten some crazy deals and crazy find and I've spent a good bit on games too.
Most expensive game I bought was Steel Battalion on Original Xbox which was 250 dollars at the time. I've spent 450 dollars on a rare cassette tape which only has 4 that exist. Just some radio station thing for Island Records that ICP did. My Psychopathic Records collection is worth close to 8k because I've been collecting for almost 20 years.
I buy games to play, but I respect collectors for having them in their collection. Whether they manage to sell it or not, it is great to know that are games preserved for future generations (even if that may have not been the intent at the time of purchase).
Most expensive game was Little Samson SCN (much cheaper that the NTSC version) for around 130 usd. Mostly it caters to Scandinavian collectors because of the SCN region.
I've owned all 26 N64 NFRs at one point (two gray Majora's Masks at once). I just happened to be one of the few people aggressively hunting for it at the time. I paid $250 and $150 for them respectively.
Most expensive game I’ve ever purchased is Pokemon SoulSilver CIB in big box with Pokewalker, followed very closely by Chibi Robo for GameCube. Honorable mention to Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times DS which was in a similar price range but about $30 cheaper than those two. I got a good deal on SoulSilver and paid market value for the other two
Not too long ago I found a really clean copy of silent hill 3 that was only missing the soundtrack for $150. It felt like a stupid amount of money to spend on a 20 year old ps2 game but it was a decent price all things considered. I adore the game though and really think it was worth it. I’m hoping to someday buy silent hill 2 and 4 eventually. Hoping they’ll pop up at double jump :)
answering his question, most expensive i have (bought when it came out) according to pricecharting is xenosaga 3 lenticular cover followed by SNES S.O.S CIB
I'm more selective now that I've got a larger collection (and I'm not going for a full set of anything righf now), but when I was going for my full Sega CD set (mostly loose), I did end up paying (total) $1500 for Snatcher, but not all at once. The disc ran me $900, and the case and manual was around $600. Its the right combination- low print, great game, and not available on any other platform (at least in English). I feel like certain games, if they're available on other platforms, can help keep the price down - not always, but sometimes. Being locked on a particular console usually drives it up, or being the best version.
