Glute Med Eccentric Exercise using the Crab Walk | Tim Keeley | Physio REHAB

- After posting the eccentric exercises for knee and shoulder the other week I have had a couple of requests for a glute Med eccentric rehab exercise. Well Chris and Essie - this ones for you. Delivered!
I decided that easiest way was to modify the crab walk as so many of you know that one and it will be familiar. Follow the cues and watch the band tension and check out the 3 levels for advancement. May also change the way you think about crab walks for glutes from now on? 🧐
Comments welcome!

Great big thank you for this.....all the way from Scotland. Great explanation from you....as always. Cheers 👍🏻😀
Great video again. Already doing this one, but now with much better form. Thank you.
Very helpful again thanks, Tim! I've been doing just the concentric with 3 bands around my ankles. I just tried this version with 1 band and that was quite challenging enough!
Thanks for this. I've done the band walks but never done them with the holds. Looks like a great variation I will have to try.
Thank you again👍🏽
Great example, will definitely work on this...from Calif. USA
This channel is a gem
🙏
Excellent. I love this eccentric work for building strength. Thanks Tim from northern England. 🥰
Pleasure - glad it helps
Thank you so much for all your great content! This looks great!
Is this move safe for someone dealing with an over-firing piriformis? Trying to strengthen the muscles that are supposed to be doing the work...
Thanks again! --Leha
You are very knowledgeable, thanks!!!
🙏
Love this!
👍
I’m scared to do this because I have balance issues. My PT had it around my ankle from the start with the traditional crab walk. It’s still good info even if I can’t do it now, thanks.
Wow certainly will try this, such a great turn in that movement! Ty so much! I'm working hard my butt, am able to do over 300 squats, hip.thrusts when working with bodyweight, but when it comes to lateral movements or Bulgarian split squat I'm sooo freaking bad at it. So this tip for crab walk is really something that'll keep me motivated and hope will help me to get where I want. Yeah I do want a great butt, who doesn't want to look nice, but it's more about activating that big muscle in order to help legs and back. In my mother tongue there is an expression, colloquial one, when you want to say that someone is really lazy, you say that one iz "ljenguza". It's directly using butt making that noun into an adjective with a stamp of laziness on it 😂. Why am I saying this? It's because that big muscle (muscles) "goes" easily to laziness. Once again ty Tim so much and best regards from Serbia.
Top class video
Thanks
Inhave had pain across my glute med over to hip for 6 months and zero answers . From the left of the si joint over to hip just under illiac crest. Included in the ache and soreness is insane mind numbing jolting muscle spams which are always worse when i first wake up in the morning. Please help. Any ideas? Is this caused from si joint, low spine, or something within muscle. 6 months of pain and inflammation with these awful jolt spasms . Severe depression over this trying to find answers! Any ideas?
Thank you for your videos! They’ve been so helpful. Is there benefit to a side step position with a deeper bend in the hips and knees (like a lateral squat walk) instead of the more straight legged, upright position shown here? Thanks!
Deeper you go the harder it is yes
💯💯💯
Shoot, where the volume!? This is exactly what I need with my piddly mudius! Xx
Listen with earphones and sound will work
I got tharrocic bulging discs what should I do
Listen with earphonesthen you can hear it 😍
Great stiuf
👍
Thank you - Any specific rec for what kind of loop bands to buy? I see a range of them from $10 - $25 on Amazon. Cheers!
They don’t need to be expensive. Perhaps get a pack of 3 different strengths may save some $ and then to can use for different exercises / body parts!
Received my loop bands this week and now can join along. Great explanations and demo!
@@karenstevenson5298 good stuff 👍
thanks for the video
crab walking with velband really hurts the old ruptured acl knee (50 yo injury)
an alternative if you would, thanks anyway, mark
Yep try the one leg ball squats in my other videos
@@physiorehab thank you tim. am able to hold it for 10 sec which i do twice twice a day. am unable to flex the knee at all as very painful and unstable
i had tried the opposite of a supine, foot on contra knee and stretch glut med to strengthen same but no matter where i placed my hand on the symptomatic knee it hurt badly after the exercise
all the best, mark
Should this work for gluteus medius tendinopathy? Are there any other eccentric exercises that would work. In the past have been given crabs to do and single leg squats. Did not solve the problem, going on 2+ years now!
Yes. - also try the isometric one leg ball squat - one of my recent videos
Thanks @@physiorehab
Is it necessary to roll out the glutes after working them? If so, how often in a week? Thanks.
Only if they are tight. Perhaps 2-3 x per week
My butt shaped like a triangle hopefully this helps
Will this help me with my hip arthritis?
I hope so!
Youre Aussie right? I worked@ 0utB@ck for dozen of the best years of my life so i could kinda verify your accent!

Thanks. But anytime you say "med" I just hear "meat". So it took me half of the video to get to the point... 🤓
That’s a kiwi accent for you!
