Kit Bashing reminds me of what I and my friends do in real life with real cars we build them to suit our tastes and style...so why not on a model kit it's AWESOME!
glad I was able to hang out with this guy watching his videos, even doe you know must of this stuff, I always learn something. It's true ..don't put everything in one box. Learned the hard way. started doing the baggies, sandwish zip locks..man!!! I find stuff so quickly now. I'm building with a smile now. Also the video about packing models...Thank you. Had no problems since I did it your way. and my clients mention that and It make me ....SMILE again. Old man, as soon as I catch up with the bills,...I'm order your videos. THANKS!!
That’s awesome thanks for your knowledge. I’m still learning the techniques of kit bashing trying to make parts fit and make them look like they belong. I still get excited to open and build box stock. I’m venturing in to kit bashing trying to incorporate 3d resin parts. Have a great weekend 👊🤘👍
One tip for those wanting to kit Bash. If you have a local slot car track, check it out. A lot of the folks that slot drag race sell their leftovers cheap. All they generally use out of the kit is the body and related parts.
Thanks for sharing! I like the fact that you can interchange parts from different models. You can build a really cool car that way! Happy days and model on! 😎
Kitbashing is the same as modifying your full size ride. Only smaller and sometimes less expensive. And with 30+ years in the auto collision trade. I fully agree with what you say. Prep work is 99% of a paint finish. If you cut corners, rush, cheep out on materials , it will show up eventually.
Kit bashing is all I know. Since I'm stuck in the '60s Gasser era, I notice & record which parts come from a particular kit (examples - the Revell Anglia w/ the early Olds motor . . . those fenderwell headers match up great on the Chev 409s & you get the skinny Pirellis in those Revell kits. Most user friendly piecrust slicks that weren't cracked on the sidewall & looked super clean were discovered on a 1/24 DIECAST Maisto Ford Thunderbolt). Chassis swaps can be majorly rewarding (w/ difficulties expected) but if something stands out & tells you the kit components aren't to your liking, sometimes the solutions can be simple as with the MPC tilt front '57 Chev . . . if one preferred to drop the back end down to level out the ride height, that chassis is better off being swapped out for a more realistic stock Tri-Five chassis. Continue & build from scratch what you need which seems like 20% of the parts but 80% of your time like correcting block details, extending oil pan sumps, recessing firewalls. FUN,FUN,FUN !!!!
Mr Don... I have a great deal of respect for you & Thank You so much for the sharing of your years of knowledge Sir...im a devoted subscriber from Ottawa Canada 🇨🇦 🍻 Cheers. 🍻
Great video!!! I've kit bashed in the past. Especially when I restore vintage kits that I buy at the show. I also keep GM with GM, Ford with Ford, etc.
It's really cool . I decided to check out car modelling on you tube . I remember your builds from the past . I have recently got back into modeling . A little sad that the magazines are gone tho . I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching . Thanks for taking your time out to share your tips and thoughts .
Great explanation, and a beautiful model in your video. I have over 70 built models so far and only have 4 that are built out of the box(competition/racecars). I love the creative expression of kitbashing . Time consuming sometimes, but I'm retired and thats ok. Again, great video ! Looking forward to the next one 😀
Learned something today. My impression of kitbashing was completely different. I thought the term meant a kit that was very difficult to assemble. Whether it was from excessive mold lines, poorly aligning parts, and vague instructions. May have to purchase a small parts bin to place various engines, wheels, tires and other items so they will readily available. Thanks for clearing the fog.
The BEST advice you gave in the video here is to KEEP PARTS SEPARATED BY TYPE. Do it before you need the part and it will be easier to find. awesome tips here too.
Hi Don , I just completed my first model in 50 yrs. I just used Rust-Oleum gloss clear on the model. Looks good however the glass has a frost cloudy coating on it. Is there a way to fix or do I have to replace the glass. Thanks in advance for helping an old man out!!!
I bought your CDs, loved them, but you didn't go over two-tone painting. The one thing I need to know is. After I put on the first color should I put the body in the dehydrator for 24 hrs before putting on the second color?
Kit bashing is something I always did as a kid and still do. I never named it. It was just modelling to me. But very fun. My question is. Do you mix scales. Say 1/24. 1/25. Thanks.
Morning Mr. Old Man, I hate to trouble you as I know so many ask for your advice. I'm not asking for advice, I'm asking for help. You see, I'm about ready to give up on this hobby because I can't build a car or truck. I've watch so many different channels and none helped, tech, I asked for help from the model club I belong too yet nobody relied. My problem is, how to build, should I just build step by step, put all subassemblies together, I'm not sure if this is making any sense to you. I'm reaching out to you because you seam to be the most understanding and down to earth. Please point me in the right direction.. Thank you sir, Dana
Love that ‘56, nice work 👍
Great video about kitbashing. Like you said you rob from Peter to pay Paul. Have a great weekend my friend. Terry

From one Old Man to another, I admire your attention to detail. Thanks for the vids.
Love the video great advice.
Being able to use parts from other kits to build your own personal creation is fun. Thanks for sharing.

Great video! I was fortunate enough to pickup 3 66 Nova 327 engines the other day for a couple of build's. I love kitbashing!

Don, have you done any videos that instruct on the use of a dehydrator? When and how to use it, etc? TIA!

Parts bin(s) is a worthwhile purchase, and sealable ("zip lock") plastic bags of various sizes.
thank you for the imfo. thank you mr.yost for this video your great man
"Thanks" Don, Well Done _ Good Job _ Cheers ✔️ ~

where did you get the wheel from again thank you Mr. yost please reply
Rest in peace you will be missed❤
Used to kit bash in the 70's, was easy to find some that kids gave up on or in yard sales. Today not so much.
do you do your dvd's in digital form as I do not own a dvd player anymore lol....and do not see me getting one ahahaha....thanks..
i wish you could have classes i would attend ever one of them
I believe he produced a series of tutorial videos a few years ago - you might want to see if those are still available.
Donn, what sites do you frequent for aftermarket parts?
Detail Master , Model Car Garage , M.A.S. , Slixx Decals .
@@ScaleModelTechniques Thank you Sir 😉
Bashing can be pricey these days.
I bought your CDs, loved them, but you didn't go over two-tone painting. The one thing I need to know is. After I put on the first color should I put the body in the dehydrator for 24 hrs before putting on the second color?
Yes .
Hi, may I know which is a good online store to buy amt, MPC and mobieus kits
Dude I don't know if you heard but Don Yost passed away...
Oh, did not know. My apologies.
Kit bashing is something I always did as a kid and still do. I never named it. It was just modelling to me. But very fun. My question is. Do you mix scales. Say 1/24. 1/25. Thanks.
No . I stick with 1/25th . There is definitely a visible difference when viewing parts and completed builds between the two scales .
How do you handle the small white nub on chrome parts after you trim it off the sprue's? I trim just a little and use a molotow chrome pen.
I use Testors chrome silver lacquer to touch up ….
@@ScaleModelTechniques thank you
Great video, learned something new, by the way who's paint and what color is that on the Delray?
A custom mix of mine . Testors enamels and PearlX laden clear top coats .
Thanks
Reached out to JDS about the wheel’s. Said I can only purchase if I’m a slot car track owner. What’s up with that????
If you go online, search for slot car parts distributors. They'll sell you what you want.
