HobbyBoss UH-60A: Part One

- The US’ involvement in the Vietnam War relied heavily on helicopters as a means of transport and logistics as well as close air support. While helicopters had seen service in Korea, mostly as Medevac and utility vehicles, they were essentially untested in actual combat roles. The Bell UH-1 Iroquois, affectionately known as the Huey, had served with distinction throughout the Vietnam War in medevac, logistics, and combat roles, but was starting to show its age by the late 60’s. The US Air Force began drafting requirements for a replacement helicopter and named the program the Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System.
The UTTAS’ requirements basically boiled down to “be the Huey but better”. As well, the aircraft was required to fit a pair of General Electric T-700 engines, which were being developed concurrently with the UTTAS project. Boeing Vertol, Bell Helicopters, and Sikorsky all placed bids for the project, with Sikorsky’s S-70 prototype snagging the win.
The Blackhawk has been a staple of the US military all over the globe, in no small part because of its modular nature. The UH-60 has an entire alphabet of models, allowing the user to configure a single helicopter to fit a myriad of missions.
The model on the table today is the HobbyBoss 1/72nd UH-60A Blackhawk. HobbyBoss is the Epiphone to Trumpeter’s Gibson; while most HobbyBoss models are well engineered and detailed very well, their smaller scale kits remain only kinda detailed. Nonetheless, this should be a quick and fun build. Let’s get started!

I'm on Twitter! Until I get 1000 subscribers, I won't be able to communicate through UA-cam, so this is the best place to follow me for updates. I also shitpost a lot.

Can't wait to see this finished. Brilliant dialogue as per
Great build and humor. Love your work !
Very informative and interesting build. Im building the old revell kit in a desert scheme for a group build. A desert storm group build. Question: for a desert hawk is the interior still painted in the same color? Black for the cockpit and gray for the rest of the interior?
Yes sir! As near as I can tell, anyway.
@@ZTEWorks thank you
👌💯
What's with the rubic's cube on the helicopter at 8:53? lol. Another great video btw. Helicopters are magic.
That’s the AN/ALQ-144 infrared jammer. I have no idea how it works, but every manual I found made it pretty clear that if you stand next to it while it’s running, it will cook you from the inside out.

Believe it or not. The H-60 is not that bad. Also the Homing antennas behind the Pilot doors are no longer used, as they have been replaced with GPS.
the pilot seating area is ALL flat black. The ceiling is more of a grey/green.
The Pax seats are arranged (back to front) 4-4-3.
The garbage under the sliding cowling are flight controls Boost servos, Mixer unit, Primary Servos. The two generators, and three hydraulic pumps (one is operated by an electrical motor).
You sound like you’ve worked on them

What company is this kidult product from!..?? 2:54
Actually, I'm a big fan of this Blackhawk! 2:54
The exterior of this aircraft will be painted in the Korean Fire Department 119 helicopter version! We plan to remodel the interior instrument panel from the existing analog instrument panel to an LED digital instrument panel by printing it on decal paper and attaching it to the surface of the instrument panel! 2:43
is there a kit of a blackhawk with the side m134?
I’m not sure. A brief look through Scalemates didn’t turn anything up in 1/72, but I’m sure there are some aftermarket upgrades.
@@ZTEWorks yeah, id bet on that! Thanks!
Hello sir, what tools do you need for this kit?
Standard modeling tools:
-Hobby knife
-Abrasives, like sandpaper
-Plastic cement
-Paint and primer
I bought a cosmetic nail kit from Walgreens that had some nippers, nail files, and polishing blocks. Great little kit if you’ve got access.
@@ZTEWorks thank you.
Where do you buy this kit??
How big is this kit??
Is this kidult for sale!..?? 2:30
I bought this one at Hobby Lobby a few years ago. The finished length is 10-12 inches, but it’s quite narrow so its footprint is on the small side.
