Thanks for stopping by another video. If you have some time to spare, I'd appreciate getting your opinion on something. For some reason I really liked having a warm and washed out colour grade for this video, it kinda reminds me of sepia film from the 1800s. I'm curious if you noticed this much, and if you liked or disliked it compared to my regular "bright and colourful" grades. This isn't a palette I'd go for in every video, but I did enjoy trying something new. Cheers.
Production quality is awesome! Personally the colours are a little too washed out for my liking, but I do think having a bit of a more subtle grade compared to vibrant colours and contrast really reflects the pastels and tones of the Australian bush:)
I like to often chill out after a tough day at work and virtually escape to the bush when I’m just too darned knackered to go wild camping myself. These relaxing times work great for me - it’s a nice touch 👌
The traditional way to sleep is to carry 2 wool blankets . One newer than the other. The nice one is you first layer and the second one is the outside layer. Then you swap when you buy a new blanket. You can soak a high stitch bed sheet in either oil or oil and wax and make a traditional light weight tarp pretty easy. I experimented and made a few with waxes as well. So the most commons combination would have been wool and a lighter canvas sheet to wrap the blanket sleep on or under
Also last tip in the wars they wore canvas coats. To heat them selves or dry themselves they light the candle or lamp inside. This dries it and captures a lot of warmth efficiently. You can suffocate and we don’t put fires in canvas in Australia but when you’re in cold environments they do because the risk of freezing is worse than forest fire or suffocation or poisoning. That lamp looks perfect for under a half shelter
Like your style of cleaning pots, it’s always interesting to see how others do it. I tend to always turn my pot over and let the flames burn out the contents then I do what you do. If water is in short or controlled supply I use a micro coin cloth (about the size of a coin) which when you did a small drop of water to allows you to then fully clean your pans. The cloth itself can then just be burned on the fire.
Heavy duty plastic bags in sandbags worn over your boots like big socks work well to keep your boots dry in swampy areas and don’t take up much room. If you don’t like plastic then heavily waxed canvas sacks work well too for a shorter time
Awesome vid mate. Takes me back to how we camped as kids back in the 80’s! Hiking and fishing for our food with a sleeping bag and a $2 blue tarp! I love the getting back to basics stuff. There’s so much gear out there now that we get so caught up in it, but it’s just not needed to have a great night in the bush. And you show that perfectly!
Thanks! Yeah I used to be a carrying a 20kg pack around full of stuff I really didn’t need. I’ve spent the past couple years reducing my gear loadout to a few key items, and I’m enjoying camping a lot more this way. I keep my pack near the front door with everything that I need inside, and whenever I want to go on a trip I just have to chuck in a bag of food. Thanks for watching ;)
I thought it was a nice colour grade (and yes, I noticed it) - I think you can jus keep playing with it as suits the type of camping you're doing. It's subtle enough to not disrupt your overall tone and feel. I enjoy all sorts of camping to be honest so I'll tune in for any trip you do. Enjoyed this video, and wish you the best for any future trips.
I like the colour grading, it's suits our Aussie bush setting nicely. I'm easy in regard to to the type of camping, happy with a swag, a tent or A-frame and any other style... I just enjoy your videos when it's out bush somewhere / anywhere 😁 😎
Hi Ryan , thanks for another video. I didn't mind the grading , as others have said - it suits the aussie bush. As for camping styles , just do what you feel like at the time , I love watching you and your content either way.
cheers Paul! I really like the poncho. I have to re-wax it frequently as It rubs up against all the bushes and the coating scratches off, but other than that I haven't had an issue. It weighs a LOT if you're going to stick it in your backpack and take it out at camp later, but if you wear it whilst walking, you can't really feel the weight. It's probably more of a winter item though, I don't think I would want to walk around with this during summer (this video was actually filmed a while ago in the cold months).
Nice, thanks for the response. I’m at that point of age v weight v distance and so on……. I did think it would be handy in the car and for that type of stuff. Really enjoyed the vids mate
Great video and great gear … but I felt sorry for you in the morning. That’s a desert swag in any kind of humidity or cold wind you can’t touch the canvas. Also you can’t use a sleeping bag like most do. A wool blanket is heavier but breathes . It also absorbs water and retain some heat when wet. I was drowned out in my army bivy once and the wool blanket saved me. I now carry wool blankets. Anyways I’m not smarter than you or from your area , i appreciate you trying to use the gear. I did manage to make myself a very nice cozy swag but.
I just read through all of your tips, I really appreciate it! I actually bought a wool blanket (same maker as the swag I used in the video) but I didn't take it as it weights far more than a modern sleeping bag, but after what you've said I'll definitely be taking that on future trips.

Looks great man! I appreciated it. Do more stuff with your homecamp A frame please! I just got one myself.
Thanks for the feedback Jordan :)
Beaut vid again man! I usually prefer the nicer vibrant colours but this really suited the edit and set a really nice scene up. Quality 👍

Thanks for watching Craig, and cheers for the cleaning tips, I'll give that a go in future.

Mate, I liked it gave it a feel coupled with the music and gear. Mentioning gear, how is the poncho? And is the weight an issue
