Just made your beef stew, and it was DELICIOUS 😋. My husband and I give it a 10/10. It was the first time we had refreshed such a good meal. He said, want to make that again tomorrow night! 😂😂😂 we finished it! (Tried to do a different soup from a different channel, and that was not so successful. So before we made this in a jar, wanted to do a taste test). I didn’t have any TL FD tomato powder, so subbed 1/4 cup tomato chunks! Oh my word, between that and the JUICY beef! And I just used garlic salt and a shake of salt for chefs choice seasoning substitute. THANK YOU! 🥣 🍅 🥕 🥔 🥩 🧅🧄
The process of the loss of color in a carrot is called sublimation. Since I’m a prepper nerd: In terms of nutritional value, freeze-dried carrots generally retain more nutrients compared to dehydrated carrots. The freeze-drying process preserves the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants present in the carrots to a greater extent.💗
That is great to know! That is what they say at Thrive...The nutrition is still there, but the color is gone. But people have a hard time with white carrots lol!
Great point about the taste of freeze dried vs dehydrated ingredients. I tried dehydrating my garden veggies but it took a long time, it heated up my tiny kitchen and the aroma wasn’t wonderful ( garlic, kale and onions). I may continue to dehydrate my garden extras for convenience sake- I don’t have a freezer. I’m looking for an alternative however. I am back to buying freeze dried ingredients for my prepper pantry. It pays to consider these distinctions. Thanks for bringing these things up. 🙂
It went from summer to winter without even tapping the breaks for fall here in Mississippi!! It's crazy!! They are saying we could have snow by Halloween!! That never happens here! JS

So…..these could be made in ‘seal-a-meal’ bags…and be vacuumed sealed, yes? They’d lay flat and seems that might suit my storage capabilities. Have you tried that method??
They can definitely be done in mylar bags. The food saver type bags are not 100% impermeable so they wouldn't be good for long term storage, but they could be done like that for shorter term for sure!
Another great meal in a jar recipes! Thank you for sharing your thoughts/ recommendations on some of the ingredients. Your knowledge is extremely helpful.
I use a computer for all my media needs, the printable recipes does not print...usually get 4 blank sheets of paper. Not complaining, just disappointed I can not get these wonderful recipes.
Great recipe! Regarding rolls, and the oil spray/cupcake liners, possibly use powdered powdered butter to lime the cups? Not sure how to separate it though. I’m a noob to meals in a jar, thought I’d ask. Thanks for sharing!
I had to pause for a minute and say that I have to get the freeze dried celery because every time I buy celery it goes bad and the seller is pretty decent. I might rehydrate it too much and maybe I should when I mix it in a chicken salad or some thing let the mayonnaise just kind of get into it because I do like it crunchy and the other thing about the carrots so good to know about that as well. And I'm glad you mentioned the butternut squash cause I just bought some and I wasn't sure exactly whether I was going to try to use it as a side dish or if it would be better in a stew. And I see you're adding mushrooms and oh my goodness that's another thing. There's a single person you know I have thrown away. I can't tell you how many mushrooms and it's not because they were kept in the refrigerator. It's like you have to cook them all the day that you bring them home I guess unless you freeze them but then they get soggy, but just stocked up on some of the mushrooms and I'm really excited because I'm gonna make some of these meals this week! Perfect timing as it's getting cooler in Florida but it's not really the weather it's more the humidity is really gone down a lot which makes it feel a lot cooler although I can eat soups and stews anytime of the year and I like it because all the vegetables and the meat and everything or in it so I don't have to make all the side dishes. I can just pull it out and cook it and get all the nutrition in one simple step 😉🤠🌴🦋🎃
Both of them look so good. Mayo in the rolls is a great idea. I bought a box of the packets at Sam's Club . This recipe is perfect for using them. Thanks for sharing!🫛🍄
I made one of the meals that contained cheese. The cheese just kept getting stuck to the pan but it was tasty and very filling . My husband refused to even taste it because it contained spinach in it.

Thanks for these wonderful and easy recipes! Have you ever experimented with baking bread in a pan? That would be a wonderful way to make bread quickly during SHTF.
I should be ordering more freezer dryed food & hopefully will be able to in near future. I do dehydrate but not overly happy with their end in results IN SOME types, others I LOVE LOVE THEM.
🙋♀️I don’t have the beef but I’m thinking I could assemble all the other ingredients in a pint jar and use canned roast beef when cooking it. I have home canned beef that I could use and store them together like a meal in a bag.🫛🧅🥕🥔
I love this idea but my kitchen is 5 x 5 ft of limited space. No shelves. Could you consider marketing this idea- meal in a bag. I’ll be your first customer! I can buy preps to store but it’s difficult to store ingredients as well.
I just stumbled across your channel and it's very helpful. I never thought of meals in a jar and would LOVE to start doing this but looking at the prices, I don't know how I could afford to. What is the cheapest way to get started?
Hi Pam! I order all my freeze dried food from Thrive Life so i do know a few tips to get the best prices from them! 😉 First, always use Delivery to automatically get at least 15% off every item. You have complete control over the delivery, there's no minimum obligation. It's also the only way to get free shipping. Next, always look at the monthly specials and see what's on sale. I usually choose recipes based on what items I can get on sale that month. I also check to see which items on the flyer have the biggest discount and focus on those items primarily. Three times a year there are really big sales with discounts up to 50% off. One of those, the Black Friday sale is coming up next month! I always allocate a little more of the budget those months to take advantage of those big discounts! You can also take advantage of the text alerts we have by texting SALE to (207) 762-7138. Then you will get a text alert right to your phone whenever there's a sale, flash sale or coupon code available. Another great resource is to go to the website wickedprepared.thrivelife.com/ and create a free customer account. Every customer account has a free referral link. If you refer friends to shop through your link, you can earn free credit to spend on the food! Another bit of advice is to start with a recipe with relatively few ingredients. And choose recipes that share ingredients; for example all ground beef recipes rather than a ground beef and a chicken. Minimize the amount of ingredients you need to get started. And finally, remember it is food. So what many people do is just allocate a certain amount of their normal grocery budget to buying this food. I hope this helps! I remember starting out, it seemed like it would take forever to build up a good supply but i was surprised how quickly i built up a stockpile!
Another great video, Jara!! You have such helpful content, I feel like I need to watch these more than once to soak it all in. So well done! Love the idea of the dinner rolls jar with the mayo packets!🎉I've made them with the TL gluten-free flour and they're fantastic!! 💜You continue to inspire me, thank you for all of your hard work!!
Great to know about the gluten free, I have people ask about that all the time! I just ordered a case of the flour so I can test some gf recipes with it 💓
Hi Jara! QUESTION every one uses scrambled egg mix and instant milk. I have whole egg mix and powdered whole milk. Can they be substituted? Thanks Audrey
Can I freeze the mushrooms then put them in dehydrator like I can with corn, green beans, zucchini, squash, cooked pinto beans , black beans and white rice? I try to make my own freeze dried since I am so poor.
That wouldn't freeze dry them, but you can dehydrate mushrooms and use them similarly. Here is a video I did on the difference between freeze dried and dehydrated foods. ua-cam.com/video/3WPfW7rUJ6g/v-deo.html You would have to make some adjustments to the recipes. I am planning on doing some recipes using only dehydrated foods soon because I have had people ask for that!
