Some real nice catches in a super calm "surf"! You seemed to re-bait frequently; did S Crabs come off or were they bitten off? What hook do you use for sand crabs. In your spots and your fishing days; Do you usually catch perch? I don't and wonder WHY others seem to catch perch on every trip to the surf.

Thank you and good questions. I typically use circle hooks, size 4, 6 or 8. Sand crabs tend to get bit frequently more than artificial bait so I rebait often. There are plenty of times I don’t catch many perch as it’s usually contingent on the ocean conditions, - calm, clear, no seaweed or wind, etc, are ideal. Also if you have a chance to catch soft shell sand crabs specifically you will notice a ton more action. In this video I only had hard versions. Soft shell sand crabs are amazing bait for perch and striper

@@JoeG480 Hi; Thanks for your thoughtful replies. Do you mostly fish the SCZ (usual) flat surf area? I just fished Francis Beach (flat, to high) and then Montara (Rough 'til TD change) ; Nada like others.

@@theoldsurffisher1943 I typically like a beach with a nice slope of 25 degrees or more. Is that what you mean by surf area? Sorry if I misunderstood !

@@JoeG480 I think you got it correct. That's as I recall most all Santa Cruz area beaches; Gentle slopes. I look forward to your next video.

Are those soft shells or some of them are hard shells?

I was using 100% hard shell sand crabs. I was not able to find any soft shell versions unfortunately.
