Kenny used to say he never wrote a hit song. To me, this has to be one of his best songs and the fact that he wrote it makes me love it that much more. What a legend.
Just as when Robin Williams died, the world is a much sadder place now that Kenny is gone. I grew up listening to him and I can’t help but feel like a part of my youth has died with him. Thanks for all the wonderful music, Kenny. You will be sorely missed. 😞
Yes mostly Kenny Rogers is very much missed.. I grew up listening to him and i had an uncle that could pass for almost a twin to Kenny Rogers, my uncle is also passed away , too. I love that song that Kenny sung called 20 Years Ago.. That song really hits my heart bad.. Love u so very much Kenny Rogers. R.I.P. Sing to the heavenly farther and let heaven ring with ur beautiful God's gift of a voice..
In den 80erjahren habe ich ihn kennengelernt hier in Deutschland. Seitdem war er mein Lieblingssänger. Zudem sah er damals noch verdammt gut aus. Ich werde ihn nie vergessen. Ruhe in Frieden Kenny. Sorry, I'm German. I can't speak English so much!🤷♀️👋
A few months ago I got my car fixed, and when I got it back, the radio was tuned in on an old country music station. I usually bluetooth my music while I’m driving, but I decided to just keep it playing because it all sounded pleasant. As I’m pulling up to school one day, I hear this low synth sound, followed by a gentle voice. I parked and listened to the rest of the song before going to class. Then, I added Sweet Music Man by Kenny Rogers to one of my playlists. I’m glad I found it. It’s so pretty. Rip Kenny
This might be the best and most underrated song Kenny wrote. He wasn't known much as a songwriter. Like Glen Campbell and Kenny's buddy Reba, Kenny was gifted in finding songs to record that he could make his own, and make it feel like he had written them himself. Sweet Music Man (which Reba herself would cover years later) seems so autobiographical that it's surprising to know that Kenny began writing it about Waylon Jennings, but slowly began to realize it was about Kenny himself. The line "They don't need you." really hits when you know Kenny was in a difficult transition in 1975 when he wrote the song. The First Edition had broken up, and it would be three years before The Gambler, a time where he put out one album that didn't sell, didn't know if he could move into being pure country, and his label was considering dropping him.
I've always love Kenny Rogers! I remember when we use to first listen to him on the radio!! Then, him and Dolly Parton singing with him!! Who could ever forget them singing Island's In The Sea!! The Bee Gees wrote that song. Kenny and Dolly when singing it together made that the #1 hit for a long time! Love them both!! See you soon Kenny! Won't be long and we'll all see you again!! ❤️❤️
The man simply set the benchmark! He has exellent guitar work with the chords, and it's a climax of his vocal abilities being shown off here! To take such inspiration from the struggles of a marriage and turn it into this beautiful song is just mind-blowing and amazing. Kenny had talent beyond talent. He truly used all his gifts for the world to enjoy!. I miss the man's talent, but more the man himself. It was always a thrill when he picked up his guitar. I'm so grateful when things became lean and Kenneth was unsure if he should continue onward in this business, that he held on long enough to change the entertainment industry. He will long live through his Legacy. Although, I'd still rather have him here to look at him 😋 . I know he is in a far better place singing with the Angels unto Our Savior and Lord! I still miss you Kenneth Ray 💋💔💐🎶🎵🙏🕊️
To me, Kenny Rogers, Glen Cambell, John Denver and Elvis of course was one's of, that had the purest Voices in the modern day History in Music on the Male side. I know there was many more of course. I had the honor and privilege to see 3 of the 4 in person. John Denver being the only one I didn't see live. I was and still am a huge fan of Mr Kenny Roger's. Rest peacefully and keep creating beautiful music in Heaven like you did on Earth.
Vance Liles, I saw them all but Elvis. Saw Kenny, probably 10-12 times, Glen 6+ times and John Denver 2-3 times. But I have been to GraceLand (the fulll house tour) 2x and I go to the shops and/or exhibits every time I’m in Memphis. All 4 of these men, very specifically, have influenced my singing and playing. So appreciative of their talents.
I was so fortunate to have enjoyed a wonderful performance by Kenny. I understand Kenny was a genuinely sweet and kind gentleman. In show business this is a rarity. Can't believe you are gone. How I loved your beautiful voice..May you rest in peace Dear man💐

I think this is one of the prettiest songs Kenny ever recorded and he wrote this one as well. Beautiful. RIP, Kenny.
I do agree with all that you said about this beautiful man and this GREAT song 😢
He wrote this after a conversation he had with Jesse and her and Waylon’s relationship.
