Kid is beyond his years... shows in his surfing and how he speaks. Finally an honest and true assessment of the Sci-Fi 2.0! It’s more of a back- footed board, which many people seem to have confused.
@@firewiresurfboards precisely. I’m more front- footed and this board defiantly requires me to change that up a little bit to get the board working they want I want it.
I tested the original SciFi design a few years ago in Portugal and really liked it. My next board will be a SciFi 2.0, it looks electric! I have the Omni and Cymatic. I ride the Cymatic most of the time and love it!
When your sk8ng we would call it boning it out, like off a launch ramp, if you grabbed a method air and “boned” it out. Then at Trestles I boosted a stailfish and Archy said “you fuckin tweaked that one”. So, at 46 yrs old now born and raised here in Ocean Beach San Diego Ca, still hucking airs but now kids are saying, tweaked, kinked, late shifted and others. Who the hell knows what they’ll be calling it next week. I just stick with saying boned it out or tweaked. See you in the water 🔱🤙
Nice honest review. I'm 150lb and 5'9 and think the 5'7 would be spot on for me at 27.5l. I don't like lengthy short boards so this would be like a bigger wave machine compared to my 5'3 Seaside. I like the fact the wide point is more forward. I think that's the way to go these days. Foam under the belly, pulled in tail. The only thing that concerns me is the excessive amount of nose flip but I think that's all it is and it's not super curvy from the centre so shouldn't slow up the board for a non pro.
Paul, you're right. It's not super curvy at the center. The nose flip was designed to prevent nose catches in steep sections, but the rest of the rocker was designed primarily for speed and drive and ease of paddling, along with an ability to get through flat sections. Good eye. And yes, 5'7 would probably be right.
Hey guys! I'm planning to get a sci-fi 2.0 soon.. I would appreciate som help to decide between a 5'7 and a 5'8. My level is a good intermediate. i'm 5'7 / 140lbs. I usually surf a Seaside 5'5. My home surf spot is a beach break (south west of France).. Any advice? :)
Hey Kevin what brand of glue are you using for the hippie flip ? ahah crazy tricks foot are glued , big thannk Daniel Thomson Kelly Slater and Jakson Dorian , i dream about this board !
I would feel blessed to win one of these boards to give it to a good friend of mine who loves surfing ,he is a lifeguard and a surf therapist at Surf4Dem for children with autism...We are from the north west coast of Puerto Rico..Thank you🖖
As far as shortboards go, it falls between an FRK and a Dominator II - The Dominator II catches waves easiest because it's designed to be a performance shortboard for weaker, flatter faced waves. The FRK was created for performance in good, punchy waves, so if the waves are good, it's perfect, but when the waves are weaker, it doesn't catch waves as quickly or easily. The Sci-Fi 2.0 falls right in-between.
I have a dominator 2.0 that I bought once I saw the review with Dan Mann and Kevin. I feel it surfs really well in similar conditions, I’ve ridden it in head high waves and it seems to go well, the helium construction has become my favorite for sharp turns and fast response. After watching this review I’m wondering where this would fit in my quiver?
@@firewiresurfboardsHi there, one more question on the volume.I am using with now a CI NeckBeard 2 in SpineTek with 29,4 Liters. I notice that the Sci-Ti 5.9 is with 30L and the 5.8 is with the 29L. For hollow beach breaks would you recommend the 5.9 with the 30L (or does it float to much)? Thank you
Hi, Thanks! I enjoyed your explanation so I subscribed. Need an advise too :-) I am intermediate/advanced, 5'7; 65kg very fit. I love my CI Fever 5'9 25L or Neckbeard2 5'4 25L. Lately I have been struggling catching waves, maybe lack of paddling energy in 4ft waves punchy on the take off. So I am considering going up to 27L. What about the 5'7, 27,5L sci-fi 2.0 for me? Or another suggestion from Firewire range? Flat Earth 28L? D2?
Kevin and Yago are leading the way for the new skool of goofy footer! Love his surfing! I didn't realize Kevin was so tall, 6-1! Riding a 5-6 and it does not look small under foot. @6 liters though is kinda crazy for his size. How much does Kevin weigh?
@@kevinschulz4178 awesome and thanks for the reply Kevin! You so light on your feet and powerful for being a larger then average surfer! Keep it up and get on the WCT brother!
Both of these are straight off the rack, just like you'd find at a Surf Shop. The only custom boards that Kevin rides are R and D shapes in development for possible release in the future, with Tomo and Dan Mann.
Beautiful board, looks like it's shaped by scientists 🥇👌 But you ride a 5'6?!? 🤯 What size does the Firewire team recommend for us normal ppl weekend warrior mortals? I'm also 6ft 88kg Fit. 🏄🙌
6 ft tall on a 5’6, holy shite brother. How much Do you weigh? Board Dimensions if you mind also how thick is your board? Not in Liters thanks. Throwing some sic airs and solid grabs, lofty tweaks too.🔱🤙
Hi Kevin! I am 6.7 and almost 215 pounds, I am currently looking for a board to keep improving my rail to rail surfing but still had enough volume for someone my size. How did the 6’4 feel for you? Cus I am looking at that board right now :)

Finally an honest and true assessment of the Sci-Fi 2.0!
It’s more of a back- footed board, which many people seem to have confused.
We've never met a back foot heavy surfer who didn't love the Sci-Fi 2.0. 🙌🏼
Seems like most of TOMO's boards are back-footed. Didn't know back footed was a thing until I had a custom made EVO.

I’d love to see you review the FRK+ it’s so light!
Kevin, you’re ripping the $hit outta that SF 2.0! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Thank you!
I will never be able to do anything like this. It's just incredible to watch
Not with that attitude you wont
Lol me too
Start by riding a board 90% your height

@@firewiresurfboards there's no doubt about that!👍
How would you describe the differences between this and Dominator 2? (Feeling and wave type suites for)
Very different
Looks like you mid air stalled that air in the pool. That was SAF!!!
He's unreal. Super meticulous with his air game. Good turns too!!!
Yeah I noticed that too so rad. Kinda like what skaters do in the air!

Awesome review Kevin. You nailed all the key points. Looking forward to more of these from you.

I love the 360 air flights. He's right, that board is apart of him. Love that boards channels too.
Just do what makes you stoked! Big thumbs up

What a clear and fkin concise review
Cheers!
Just a small point, but i believe TOMO developed the original Sci Fi with Stu Kennedy, not Kelly.
Another small point, Kelly wanted the sci fi and the cymatic to be designed because of the bat tailed surfboard he had as a kid

Great review! Kevin is great at this! Question re fin setups: for quads do the same rules for rake and pivot apply with fin selection ?
Hey Tom! I’m relatively new to quads, but from what I’ve felt, I enjoy a fin that is more straight up and down vs rake!
