Nice fixes =D Those energy saving bulbs - I've found even Philips bulbs don't last much longer. I typically swap one of these bulbs out every 12 to 18 months. I have also found that super cheap ones from China have lasted years so far! Although I would go with a branded bulb for safety alone tbh! Something worth noting - when changing batteries on car remotes, some of the older remotes (certainly pre 2008) and possibly newer remotes too - you need to make sure you change the battery within a short period of time. For example, on my car if I was to let the battery go completely flat and then replace it, it would no longer be synced to the car security and need to go back to a dealer to be re-coded. The same can happen with a weak battery if you leave it for 5, 10, 15 minutes as you remove the old one and put the new one in. Typically a cap holds the charge for a very short period to allow the swap. Worries the hell out of me every time I have to change mine lol.
Thank you Chris. Great info on the FOB batteries. On this VW Golf, there is a hidden key lock on the drivers door handle. You can use the key to prise the cover off. Then you use the key to manually open the door in the lock. The alarm WILL sound, you then put the key in the ignition and start the car. The alarm goes off and then the key is synced back up to the car again :-) Yeah a lot of those LED GU10 don't seem to last very long at all. It is fine if you are only paying £2 as you will probably make or break even on the energy saving over halogen....BUT if you are buying £10 lamps that only last 2 years I think it would be very unlikely to get half your money back in relation to the cheaper Halogens :-)
@@Mymatevince Nice! It's not so bad when you can start the car with the key that way, but on some cars the key wont start the car once that code has been lost - even if you can gain entry to the car! I think newer keys will re-sync, mine wont =/
Thanks for the info Chris :-) I recently got a Atari 2600 Woody (I think 6 switch) and a Spectrum 128K to repair so I will have to peruse your videos as that is right up your street. I might need help!!!! Enjoy the weekend :-)
a little lifehack for button cells, have 2025,2032 ect all on hand, pop the old one out and replace it with the biggest possible. some items work with bigger batteries aswell, they have more capacity and therefore they last a lot longer
@@jcreazy as i said, not everywhere, but having them at hand and trying it out is worth it in my opinion because you dont lose much time but you can save yourself having to worry about it for a bit longer
The reason why your GIU-10 bulbs doesn't hold very long in your bathroom might be the type of holder/lamp they are in. I notice they are the standard holders and not the bathroom/kitchen ones. The holders for use in the bathroom have glass in front of the bulb with rubber seals around the glass to prevent damp/moisture to get in which shortens the life of the bulb.
Hi Vince. If you do end up using a glue to hold that plastic piece on your vanity, make sure the solvents in the glue will not attack or eat the thin plastic. Love watching your videos.
Another important value to consider on LED lighting at home is the CRI - Colour Rendering Index. Basically a cheap low CRI LED bulb will make colours look bland, while a higher quality high CRI (>95) will give more vibrant colours and generally look more pleasing.
i prefer 4000K, this in the middle, it's just white light. More "yellow" light makes you more relaxed so its good for bedrooms, white and blue lights makes you more "active".
I've changed hundreds of key fob batteries as part of my job. It's a good money maker but people could easily do it themselves for much cheaper. Some people tell me they didn't even know there was a battery in the fob.
@@ziegraydes3131 I think that's the problem, they don't think at all. I've had people tell me they didn't know their iPhone had a battery in it either.
@@jcreazy wow. I know Apple products are bad I'm pretty sure they put some kind of cheap battery in that the average guy or gal can't remove easily to replace once it fails.
Hi Vince. You may want to check that replacement GU10 LED bulb is ok to use, as it didn't have aluminium heat sink fins on the back, like the old bulb. As the LED is pointing downward, the heat will be rising upward, and the plastic casing might fail ?
Hi there, thanks for the advice. These ones in this ceiling are the fire rated fixings so they are encased in a metal can type thing so hopefully it should be fine :-)
About your bathroom led light. I truly believe that you problem is heat! So tight with no chans for led light to get cool air around it. Go for sheep one's there but if you have a better lamp som where else you should go for a more expensive bold!
I was told not to touch the button cell batteries with your finger as it discharges them with the sweat dont know how true it is but I've always tried to flip the battery into place
Looking forward to your next home repair video. Might I suggest - Vince installs a new roll of toilet paper, Vince replaces vacuum cleaner bag, and Vince fills his car with petrol.
i know it's an old video but.... i think you should try to think of keys as personal information, people don't know who you are yet, but it is the internet after all. you wouldn't show your credit card or id on video...keys are the same, anyone could make a copy from a picture...just a friendly heads up in case you didn't know..:P
I didn't realize that you was using double-sided tape, so I was like "why is this guy putting on tape then ripping it off again?" I haven't even seen any store that sells double-sided tape before, so I usually just take like duct tape or something and wrap it in a loop. Which I for some reason expected you to do as well, haha. Nice fixes though.
In Geman Cars (in Gemany also Asien Cars and others) the "Check engine light" (and all other Control Lights) are on when Start the Engine. Inside of ~5 Seconds all Lights go out, if not something is not ok. 🙂

Not sure if it's a rule for LED lights, but my test for their quality is the noise on AM radio band. The less noise, the higher the quality.
Spray contact adhesive is a pretty good bet for glueing plastic to wood. It's how laminate countertops are typically constructed.
Thanks for the tip :-)
