Good evening! Yeah, that book sounds boring. Maybe it's the narrator because a narrator can make or break a book. Have you read books by Brenda Jackson, Beverly Jenkins, Rochelle Alers, Angie Daniels, etc.? These authors are great authors and they write good romance novels.
