  • See my fossil preparation and lovely little Jurassic Coast find. A fossil Oyster shell from the Jurassic Coast. Also Known as a 'Devil`s Toe Nail.' Under Lizzie Hingley`s tutelage at her fossil workshop, i learnt to use her prep work tools. I use all the correct health and safety equipment to do the work from protective eye wear to sturdy rubber gloves. The best fossils are found at low tide .I hope you find some fossils along the Jurassic Coast-at low tide. Sometimes fossil hunting turns out to be treasure hunting, especially when you are trying a bit of sieving.The Jurassic Coast really does have some stunning fossils. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right rocks. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. Keep away from the dangerous cliffs. The best fossils are washed out onto the beaches at low tide, by the sea's actions. Look out for the slippery seaweed on the ledges and rocks. I offer fossil walks along the Jurassic Coast on the following website, so feel free to take a look at the website I made, with our online fossil walks ------www.lymeregisfo... There is a fossil collecting code of conduct in place along the Jurassiccoast#fossilhunter#fossilhunting#ammonite

    Thanks a lot for another great video. Preparation of fossils by pros looks like some form of magic, really. Final effect is just unbelievable with fossils looking like living creatures, especially the oyster.

      Thanks very much indeed for all your comments. I was really excited about the fossil prep work, some kind of “ Jurassic Magic.” The oyster 🦪 shell did really look like a living creature 🙌.

      Thanks 🙏 very much Karsten . I like those ones . They are usually better than the harder ones we found at the beginning of the beach ! Do you remember that block we worked on at the start of the beach , as the light faded ✨🌙 🌊🕰️😆

    Incredible !!! Another fossils highway🤩 ! Wonderful 🥰. Super video and perfect prep. Greetings from Poland 👋😄
    I have another question : What do you paint the prepared fossils with ? Paraloid ?

    • @LymeRegisFossils
      @LymeRegisFossils  Рік тому +1

      Thanks 🙏 for the comments . I use a particular varnish in 50/50 proportions. That is 50 percent gloss Rowney’s picture varnish with 50 percent mat varnish . This then doesn’t make them too glossy to look at ! All the best from the Jurassic Coast to you ! 🙌 🍻

      I have created a standard reply for the fossil walks at the moment. I am also in my shop in Lyme Regis running that a lot of the time. I will be fossil walking if you so wish to try this activity during June 2023 Sorry we have no availability for fossil walks until then.Nigel Clark local authour he does the fossil walks at times he may have passed you my way . He gets very busy like me in the holidays . Some one I recommend for the fossil walks is @mikeharrisonsfossils on Instagram his mobile no. is 07526563997. Your in safe hands on a fossil walk with MIke as he is a regular on the beach looking for fossils at low tide ! We have a video on UA-cam called "Ammonite Lyme Regis."My channel on UA-cam is “ Lyme Regis Fossils ,” if you’d like to view that please see the video I mentioned it really shows you how to find fossils properly at low tide- along the Jurassic Coast. You need a tide table book or knowledge of when it’s low tide here at Lyme Regis. You can go out an hour before low tide and hour after low tide looking East of Lyme Regis on the 2008 landslide . Thats a good place to sieve for fossils . We sell sieves at 7 Drakes Way , Lyme Regis DT7 3QP . Come to our shop for any more information you need on fossil collecting. We can give you the most up to date news possible on where to look and what to do on Lyme Regis East beach. Good luck on the beach and don’t venture near to the cliffs . The cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning. The sea does the work for you washing the fossils out of mudslides and landslips.You have more beach to look at during low tide along the Jurassic Coast .Please see our video below on UA-cam, Thanks BrandonLennon….. “Black Ven Landslide , Lyme Regis , 11th November 2021
