Not to mention the computers! Tbh life in 2000 seemed a lot different than what it shows here. However, these guys are older and their clothes weren’t in style at the time so it kinda makes sense.
No one really knew how to present poker on television. People didn’t know the rules, and there were no hole card cameras so you didn’t know what was happening most of the time.
and this is why a skilled player doesn’t consistently win tournaments - to win a tournament is like having to win many coin flips every time regardless how strong your opponent(s) are - the only way to consistently win money is to participate in a profit sharing agreement with other skilled players hoping that one of your ‘teammates’ is in the money. winning the world series is akin to winning the lottery as there are too many coin flip type hands that you have to win every time.
Hey guys it’s ML. I came in top 20 this day and it was so incredible re living the memory with this video. Thank you for all the support. This tournament was life changing for me and I’m glad it inspired so many. Keep on playing everyone the sky’s the limit
Wow... Can't believe this was 24 years ago. So fun to celebrate with Chris and Cathy at Dinner. The champagne toast was an awesome finish to such a fun day!!🎉
Ah yes, an hour long old-school documentary style WSOP tribute to the great Chris Ferguson although to his credit masterfully sliding forward a massive battalion of countless rows upon rows upon rows of chips at 42:26 is pretty darn impressive in my opinion, lol.
I realize this is still a part of poker history, and therefore important to the sport and the community, however I feel there should at least be some kind of foot note or mention of the fact that Ferguson was embroiled with controversy for his criminal involvement in the Full Tilt scandal.
I disagree. This footage predates the Full Tilt scandal by several years. I don't begrudge Ferguson some recorded memory of the time when he was just an excellent poker player, instead of a notorious one.

Why do these 2000s docs always look and feel like they're from the 80s?

@@jasonfullerton7763 definitely the video but the music, the clothing too, how is this 2000?

The lottery analogy is 💯
I miss the 2000s so much. Much less sponsorship in Poker.
Chris gets it in bad 3 times in a row....wins the championship. Thats how you do it
That’s how he did it, but that’s not how you should do it.
And then he and Howard ledger created full tilt poker and the scandal behind it

Hellmuth, Johnny chan, Ivey, DNegs were all in the 2024
TJ played Jesus like a fiddle heads up; total bail outs by Ferguson to win this.

Yes indeed. She has that Meg Ryan look. Sexy.
