Transferring wheelchair to bed with gait belt is an Arizona State board of Nursing testable skill.
I wish it was that easy. Much respect to people that help. My day is dictated by hoping my chair doesn't slip. Especially when I need to get to the bed pan.
To all that experience this, my heart and love goes out to yall. Please don't give up like I want to. Love you
this is why cna work need to start out at $20 hr!!!!!! Nothing less, i dont care where you work, state ect. Its physical demanding. I dont care how well you do the skills, being on your feet, lifting, moving all day is bad for your back anyway. Guess somebody got to do the job!!
Exactly! I only get paid $16... it’s truly sad even cnas who worked for 10 years + have only gotten up 18 Hr
Sadly in Detroit & metro detroit some places are $10.00 a hours. I only make $13.00 a hour.
@@areyounotentertained2482 you guys deserve more than that... walmart employees are getting paid $13 where i live.
@@slaybae777 now $ 14- 15...😏
@@ludmilamaximov4448 some places is 12-13
“Scoot to end of chair”… many patients can’t scoot. Also some have an arm injury and can’t brace. But thanks for making the video.
Good job. As a Physical Therapy Aide for 19 years- 13 outpatient and 6 in an Acute Rehab for a Level II Trauma hospital; this was awesome to have as a refresher. Don't forget to lower the side table with the water and call bell; she wouldn't have been able to reach those as low as she was laying. Also, it gives me chills to think she may have tried to drink water laying that low! CHOKE HAZARD! Thanks again for the wonderful refresh of a Stand/Pivot- weightbearing, non-ambulatory transfer.

technically, the moving of the non-pivot foot is a step.
Provided a patient has the wrist strength to keep their wrist straight and using the arm closest to the edge of the bed, has anyone considered having a patient placing their elbow on the bed while making a fist, then taking the palm of the other hand placing it on the fist and pushing with both arms to elevate the person? Personally, I find if I cross my chest to push myself up I'm only able to elevate the shoulder about 3 to 4 inches off the bed which is difficult for me. Using the fist/palm combination along with the elbow elevates the shoulder about 12 inches making it much easier. This way I'm able to use the combined strength of both arms.....Errol
What about when patients have night stands beside their beds and you donot have that much space to transfer that way?
not agreeing with reapplying the gait belt as the patient is sitting on the edge of the bed....I think that task could have waited until she was assisted into the bed
Excellent brother you are great
In reality patients doesn't have that strength in their arms
This, all residents will have different levels of strength. This one example is how it will be done with the test observer for the state board exam.
It's so deferent with a real patient where they can't slide themselves to touch the ground and so much more. This really it's not e real demonstration.
Meri Mer completely agree with you! So useless! This is what they are teaching their students! So wrong!
Yeah true. I’ve been trying to help care for my mom and it’s much more difficult than this. This makes it look very effortless.
Don't you love when they use a perfectly healthy, agile subject when demonstrating these techniques. Just stop! Show someone who cannot roll so easily onto their side etc.
So right Smith I just lift my legs alone to put on the bed and it's a every night thing and my body is so hurting...and for a crappie pay...worst if your working for agency they take all the money u do all the work a get scraps.
doing a good job
If you don't pivot you will end up messing up your back. on top of it you have to take a step to prevent injuries to yourself
how to transfer patient to wheelchair in hospital bed
The only time I'm happy to get out my wheelchair!
I wish it was so easy with an elderly person who’s legs become so stiff and is painful even to touch
What if the patient can’t move her feet, or scoot forward for the transfer from the chair?
I think then you would use a hoyer.
shouldn't the bed be rinkle freee
wish I knew I was going to be doing this at my assessment today then I wouldn't have failed
what if they complain of back pain? how would you transfer then?
You would use a hoyer
not just nursing student also us PT students
Wash hands in Florida
I need help I'm a caregiver and I have no CNA license, my patient has currently stopped being able to stand or put any pressure on feet (shes retracting due to age) and cant use any limbs to help me. how can I bare 180lbs on my own? I cant use a gait belt on her its rough on her more than me. I tried talking to my company about having help In moving my patient but I am the only caregiver and they say I'm moving her correctly when watching me. But my back still hurts after I move her. Can anyone help me? I can't pivot correctly. I grab my patient by standing firm and squating down ,she can wrap her arms around me (but cant use her pressure to push or help in anyway) I basically pick her up like I'm carrying a baby sideways and I rotate her into the bed. Idk what else to do.
You should rent or buy a hover lift
terrible posture during transfers = back pain...raise bed next time to save your back!
I agree, body mechanics could have been a little better.
Keep in mind that the patient's feet need to be FLAT on the floor. So with this skill, it's fine.
you have to explain it with a real patient
He says proper body mechanism but he is not doing it: Use your legs instead of your back!
I need a real patient
I.like it
Show where the person does it by himself/ herself with no aid.
Um everything was right EXCEPT YOUR SUPPOSED TO WASH HANDS BEFORE AND AFTER FOR 20 seconds followed with sanitizing after
TLE 🤟
Looked like poor bdy position to lift. Used back, not legs. Rotated back while weight bearing. Bad ideas on so many levels.
Great male nurse 👌💖
2 words..Hoyer lift
Buckle to the side
Please don't bend your back next time, that's not safe
When transfering a patient they should hould onto your shoulders and net your neck!
you probably shouldn't call your patient "the patient"
Alexander, you're right! In a real care situation, you'll want to use the patients actual name. We only use "the patient" so that viewers know we are addressing the patient.
I know I was just kidding. I just thought it was funny because I assumed the patient was the person you'd be putting the gait belt on. Good video though, thank you.
1:56 proper body mechanics instant fail
Sanitize your hands then touch the filthy curtain, bed, etc. Yuck. Wash with soap and water.
