I've always wanted to try one ever since I saw Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior
They're really REALLY good. But they can be a bit expensive. I suggest red bean
I was wondering where I remembered these from lol
Maria Victoria ME TOO
They should tell them the price of moon cake because it's expensive af.
ty
+Alice C how much are they? (In pounds)
+jennifer canton A little cake where I live is about $10. I can get 3 bites out of it. I dont think they dont sell by pound.
i just got a box of 4 at costco for $11, which is pretty decently priced for mooncake
They can cost as much as forty dollars. The fancy brands anyway.
Plain lotus mooncake is TEH BEST. No joke.
+Wong Lu Yan I absolutely, positively, 100% agree with this excellent notion
+Wong Lu Yan The originals r the best
My family gets the regular one because my sister likes the yolk. I eat the lotus, she eats the egg.
Hetaloid Italy My sister and I do that with my mum 😂
me too
The lotus one is my favorite. The egg is the best part!!
I agree, the egg is my favorite part
YASS ITS THE BESTT
thats the only one i think i would eat
I hate the egg
And everyone is like 'EWWW THE EGG TASTE THE WORRRST' and I'm just trying to steal their Eggies :3 XD
they're so expensive to buy in boxes
+Dangerous Jess I know! I bought a box of 4, and it was about $100
+Colour Quill Woahh 100$!!!!
+Colour Quill They are not like a 100 dollars they only around 19 to 30 dollars, the most expensive one is like for 40 dollars
+Thai Trieu Oh okay :)
in my country, the more expensive is the better one
"Who knew bean could be made into dessert?"
Uhm, every Asian ever.
White people gonna white people...
@@Galvion1980 asians are white people too
@@thattastedpurple4246 Nope. Lots of racism by white people against Asians, from straight-up discrimination to exoticising, othering, generalizations, prejudice etc. Some Asian peoples (i.e. Japan) may have a skin tone close or identical to white Europeans or USians, the do not get to benefit from Whiteness, white society treats them differently from European-looking folk. Pretending azuki dessert is something weird or alien is mainstream white culture.
@ThatTastedPurple ,
Are you from Africa? Back when I was in the college, an African student from Africa said just that lol. He thought Eastern Asians and Caucasians are all white. Coz of the skin color.
NO CAP WE MAKE RED BEAN SWEET SOUP
Don't feel bad eating it. The design was just smashed into it with a mold. Eat all you want. 😂
Ooooh are you an asian army too?
😂😂😂
they didn't try the snowskin mooncake!!
Where can you buy them ? I can't seem to find them where I live and I live in a highly populated Asian area
+Allison Tran they should be sold in all major Asian supermarkets.
Esther Gee really ? I've never seen them
I guess it depends on where you live then. I'm in Vancouver and they are very easy to find
Esther Gee I'm in the states...
I love moon cakes but I hate the dry yolk in the middle.
Yeah me too
what I love the egg
+Shinji's Dad i love the egg
+Shinji's Dad Lol, i always pick it out.
+Shinji's Dad same i always pick it out xD
Happy mid Autumn Festival everyone!

+Yan Chan thanks it was yesterday for us though
+Emily Muxic same
Any one think of Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior when they said moon cakes?
yes ithought i was the only one
MEEEEE I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
Yesss , lol . I`m like " Wendy`s grandma Made That " 😩😩😩
THAT MOVIE WAS REAL GOOD!! 😂😂😂
DUDEEEEE SAME
The one thing that sucks about mooncakes is that just one has 1,000 calories.
That's what they got their name from.
cause that filling contain tons of sugar and butter
Yup, a standard lotus seed is equal to 3 slices of pizza.
lhatzia1 the best part about life is that you have limbs and the best part about it is that you have a brain to motivate you work those calories and calories are not the cause of being fat go do some research calories are required in your Everyday life for energy purposes so stop complaining on UA-cam and go hit up the gym! 💪🏻🙌🏻(hey no hate here I'm just speaking my mind😌😊)
Trust me, I'm not of the mindset that you can never eat this, I just wish it were slightly less calories haha. No hate from me either--I believe in moderation and balance, but this is more my observations on this treat than an actual complaint. ;)
"莲蓉" (lián róng) moon cakes are the best
Hong Kong?my mom likes it
i like them as long they have eggs :)
Lotus with the egg is GOOOOOOD
with double yolk 😍😍😍
I wondering where I could get this
Happy Chuseok!
+BuzzFeedVideo buzzfeed when did you get a subscriber;A;
***** urm,, Korean?
it's a Chinese festival or originated in China
+Amena Martin Chuseok is not the same thing as the Chinese Mid-Autumn festival. They are just celebrated around the same time of year.
YAHHHHHH
Who remembers the moon cakes from that old Disney channel movie Wendy Wo?
I do. :)
Wendy Wu
Same
Omg yas
Wendy Wu*
I'm eating one right nowCHINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🇨🇳❤️❤️
ME TOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
REPRESENT
🇨🇳yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I ❤️ moon cakes!!!
I have to make some for my Chinese class and so I put on a video about them for my teacher(I'm Chinese too so I'm like a student aid for her) this one table omg I can't even...I know they're ignorant and stuff but they made me ugghh. "Eww salted EGG?! Who even eats that? WAIT they put BEANS? in a CAKE?! hey can I just put...nutella or caramel in it? Cause I don't think I'll like that other stuff..." I swear. JUST. TRY IT. THEENNNN you can judge. please. 😥😒
Fk them then.
they are paid to act that way...
Becca-chan 34 that's their loss. Moon cake tastes better then Nutella and caramel. (I'm also Chinese)
i see those type of kids in my classes errday
Typical girl who thinks that nutella is life. dude there are many flavors better than nutella.
**is asian**
**asian pride suddenly goes on a high level rise**
I've wanted one since Wendy woo homecoming warrior
SAME
YESS
Sameee
Omg yes!
I was just about to say that!
I've wanted to try a moon cake ever since I watched Wendi Wu: Homecoming Warrior.
Start with the lotus! They are delicious. Be careful, they are high in calories though😋.
+Allie OMG YAS I've been dying to try one after I watched that movie.
+Allie U should try the Snowskin ones. They're a bit pricey, but omg sooo good.
Pricey but worth the try! They're delicious!
+Allie OMG! SAME! xD i'm not even kidding. lol
Moon cake & tea anyone? *wink* *wink*
Yes, please.
+faint the asian equivalent to "Netflix and chill" lmao
Moon cake and bubble tea is literally heaven.
Why the winks? Is that your version of "Netflix and chill"? hmmm lmbo
+Fatou I jk! lol
Happy midautumn festival! great to see Buzzfeed joining us in the festivities. If you don't mind nontraditional mooncakes, you should give the ice-skin mooncakes (made with mochi as the outer layer, i think) that one is for sure the best, and the most expensive, albeit not very traditional..
That girl with the longish face was so sweet! haha so positive. the world needs more people like you.
0:15 I love that girl! she was so open minded♡
Wendy woo homecoming warrior ANYONE?!
Yeah. :D
Now l remember that, jaja now l want one of those right now 😜🙋😋😁👍💖💙
OMFG I WAS JUST THINKING OF THAT 😂😂😂
Oh my god yes that's exactly what I was thinking!
the entire time I was like "that's from that ninja movie with Brenda Song....what's that movie?" THANK YOU, and I've literally always wanted to try one since watching that movie 😂
Who else is eating one as you watch this xD #AsiansRepresent haha
I wasn't but I'm Asian 😛
im not eating rn but later i am :D
I just ate one
+Raymond Zhao I ate 5 whilst watching this
I'm eyeing one down right now xD
I love that blue-eyed girl, she's so positive and cheerful!! She makes me feel happy watching her!!!
I've never heard of Date mooncake before although the other two are common. My favourite is the Lotus seed paste but the red been is also yummy.
Buzzfeed, you gave them the cheap moon cakes.. Step your game up. You know what I'm talking about my fellow Asian friends.
Well yeah but moon cakes are hella expensive ....
Ikr!
they're expensive, i think maybe they don't want to risk the "what if they don't like it, we're gonna have to throw it away".
+DTechque Why would they waste dozens of dollars for a 4 minute video? And what if they don't like how they taste? It would be a waste of money.
Casey J it's not like they bit into the moon cakes, they could always share the rest with other people or give them to the homeless
Wendy woo homecoming warrior anyone? 😅
Haha, yeah!. :)
A part of my childhood I'll never get back
CHILDHOOD IMMA WATCH WENDY WOO ON NETFLIX
+Ourworld Cupcake 〈3 I LOVE YOU XD
As a Chinese person who celebrates this every year I feel so happy people like it
yessica is the cutest human being on this earth
Major props to BuzzFeed - I really appreciate how you guys use the traditional Chinese characters in the video instead of the simplified ones. It brings out so much more meaning and of course, looks better with the tradition as well. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
Heyyyy,I know it's not that important but I love the fact that you guys use TRADITIONAL Chinese instead of simplified one, PS I am from HK, SO YAH
It's for a broader audience
+Gabriel Lai well YAH I know, but still
Still what?
+lavenderyip I KNOW RIGHT. yas
Traditional Chinese is actually supposed to be used anywhere outside of mainland China... Even the mainlanders use them.
I absolutely love red bean and fig!!!
I saw this and really hoped there would be a buzzfeed segment on Chuseok!! you've covered moon cakes but what about chuseok rice cakes!?
+Yas Mean if only i knew where I could by some mooncakes.
Maybe because there are more than 1.3 billion people worldwide celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival and less than 80 million (including the North Koreans) celebrating Chuseok?
The Chuseok rice cakes are known as Songpyeon (송편) btw.
YummYakitori that's cool. Great way to downplay and demean an entire country's holiday.
Good job.
Buen trabajo.
(。ŏ_ŏ)
+RagDoll AngelCat Your local Asian/International market will almost definitely have them right now :)
+PinkBunnyKink oh em gee, i want to go get some now ^~^
I never heard of moon cake before but since they liked it I want to try it now 😂
Yes you should try it, it's so good
Nah, those are disgusting
yes pls
+Juv haha damn
If you want to try some of it, go to your nearest Asian store and ask about for moon cake.
There are much much much more kinds at Hong Kong like a billion
Grace Cheng yes like snow skin!
Grace Cheng
i gotta admit, the 冰皮 is least of my favourites but at least the mango flavour one is not completely horrible :P
Cheese mixed with eggs and bacon
And... I'm not lying
Why dont you guys try the green tea and taro, that are also my favorites.
Just ate some! Happy belated mid autumn festival everyone!
I love the snow skin ones and the ones with yolk in the middle!
Literally bought them half and hour ago 😍
+raorockz85 i meant referance
You must be rich because the price is TOO DAMN HIGH
Robo Batman the ones in china town isnt as expensive :D
Where I'm from they cost 120 euros a basket, each basket has like 5 cakes inside
idk how much 120 euro is but its only 12pound here
who here is asian?!?!??👩
I know I am . . . . . or am I?!???!?!????!???????
🌚👲🏼🙋🏻
I'm some really messed up form of it!!!!
Half Asian
Nepolian right here!
Every year during the Mid autumn festival my chinese class will have moon cakes and tea and other various snacks. This year we had lotus. Moon cake is sooo good
haha those mooncakes are really rough looking actually, we have much better ones in Malaysia :D
Yessss There's different kind of boxes to store the mooncakes :3 I bought a cupboard ones. So delicious
Moon cakes are all over Malaysia xD
YASSSS
+SherMyn cheah u pay for the quality of moon cakes you get ! ^^
Omg
Pineapple moon cakes are good too.
The lotus moon cakes in the video also had salted duck yokes in them.
Sounds great, but I am allergic to pineapple.
+EH CBunny i think those are actually from taiwan
That one guy looks like Matt from Until Dawn lol
This reminds me of Wendy wu homecoming warrior
Me too. :)
In my opinion, the salted egg yolk really balances out everything; it makes the cake less sweet. I usually get the ones that have an extra egg in it. Those are more expensive but so worth it!
my favourite flavour is the durian mooncake!
Never know there's that kind of moon cakes out there, I only ate the egg and red bean moon cakes before......
Lol there's a lot of weird flavors. I HATE the one with red and green strips in them
am i the only person that has never heard of moon cake?
+touchdalight I was literally just watching your videos😂😂
+touchdalight WHAT. HOW HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF MOONCAKE WTF
+SugarPuff Mel I have't heard of them either, but I'm not Asian and don't have Asian friends.
mobaby1975 :O You need to try them!!!!! It's the mid autumn festival today! (Zhong qiu jie) And mooncakes are like a must have.
yes probably
I love moon cakes but it is so damn expensive
it's hard to make and it's seasonal so yeah it's damn expensive :)
TRY SNOW SKIN MOON CAKES TOO
Really? I honestly like them better xD lol
OMG YASSSSS
i just wanna give a hug to the girl in the beginning who was so shocked by the awesomeness of red bean paste...
*whisper and pats head*
you poor, poor child, we welcome you to our glorious bean club..
I used to go to a school where I learned to speak Mandarin (I'm from China) and every year they celebrated the mid-autumn festival and I used to eat so many moon cakes but I haven't had one in years! Man, I really miss moon cakes.
I have a box of 4 lotus mooncakes, and they're alright. I am not fond of the egg part however I can eat around it. I think it would taste better with just the beans. Yes, this coming from a Mexican. I could also see it in a ice cream flavor.
I'm Chinese and I never had the date one... But can totally imagine how it would taste like. Btw you guys skipped the five nut one! Wonder what people would think about it, it's a complicated one 😏
+jenllyfish LOL walking into the video, I didn't expect them to enjoy the basic flavors of mooncakes. Stuff like sausage and nut mooncakes are probably too far on the "acquired taste" side.
+Bryan Liang Up top my brother, sausage and nut for life. no homo
I like the five nut one, but usually my favorite one is the coconut one or 公仔饼. And I also have yet to taste a date mooncake in my life 😂
+jenllyfish date one was the flavor in the north china and egg one was the one in the south. you must come from the south then.
Wtf dude the older people love Date how could you have not had it
They didn't get the snow skin one :
The lotus seed paste mooncake (蓮蓉月餅) with salted egg yolk (鹹蛋黃) in it is considered the most traditional variation.
You guys should try some snow skin mooncake too! I really like those, in addition to the traditional baked skin kind. In Singapore, we have all sorts of mooncakes during Mid-autumn Festival season, including ice cream mooncakes, which are literally melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Starbucks even sold flavours such as camembert and smoked cheddar with pamersan truffle, and Starbucks coffee with white chocolate truffle and cranberry macadamia with yoghurt truffle.
Korea should be included in the list of countries that celebrate the mid-autumn festival because of the annual 추석 festival.
the one that korea celebrates is like a korean thanksgiving, not mid autumn festival. they just happen to be on the same day.
+Mavs【メイス】 chuseok and the mid autumn festival are basically the same thing and it's actually more like the mid-autumn festival than what is celebrated in american "thanksgiving". they just call it "thanksgiving" to have something western to compare it to
😂 TOP!
+Audrey Bennett But they don't eat moon cake. This video is about moon cakes.
+Audrey Bennett Yall, chuseok isn't mid autumn festival. Chuseok is when people go back to their home towns to be with their families, mid autumn festival is to celebrate the season and moon.
I love mooncake but it is too expensive.
- really? in my country Vietnam. It costs just about 1 - 2$ for a damn good mooncake!!
- you're Vietnamese, aren't u? :3 if you were vietnamese you would have been really homesick at last autumn festival :3 right?
- Anyway, you have chance to study abroad. And that's great
You buy it the day after the holiday lol. It's all half price lol
scorpioninpink HA! I go to an Asian food shop and they give me one for free if I spend £10. I'm a lucky bastard.
i reamber bean cakes from the Wendy Wu movie
moon cakes are so delicious!! my mom use to buy them all the time for me as a child, it brings back the memories!!
Moon cake & tea while watching netflix.. of course that itself is already chill-y enough.
Moon cakes look very good. I want to try one.
tastes very good! but beware. it is calorie dense, like a full mooncake is said to be 500-1000 kcal. but we eat almost every week :)
Yes!
they're amazing !! too bad they're 1000 cals tho :(
Try again next year.
Allison Tran we actually have it here year round, but not as good as the annual mooncake. The one they sell everyday is just like bread, with the bean paste.
I LOVE mooncakes with salted egg yolk inside :3 Am i the only one?
Nope, I'm with ya :P
I live for those..I use to have them when I was living in Taiwan.
❤️
I like the filling with icecream or ham, I don't like traditional filling, it's too sweet
Same, salted egg yolk is the best part :D
Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, everyone in America should know about mung, yellow and red bean desserts by now
+Brittany Brown My wife uses various beans in making her chocolate fudge. But I have never heard of any other bean desert before.
+Brittany Brown red bean is pretty much heaven for my dad
+Brittany Brown I'm Asian and I know the moon cake already but I never knew there were multiple flavors. So it's okay for a lot of Americans to not know.
Best part about this is that the Mid Autumn Festival as a holiday was celebrated over a month ago in China.
The girl on the left at 0:01 is so enthusiastic about moon cakes I love her :DD
in Vietnam, we don't call it "moon cake", we call it (if translated) "mid-autumn cake"
Why does something like Moon Cakes not exist where I live...;-;
Where do you live
+Thai Trieu underneath your carpet
Thai Trieu
Germany.
+Melissa Read Pretty sure there is. Or are you telling me there's no Chinatown in Germany? I'm 100% sure you can get mooncake in every Chinatown in the world..
***** I've never heard of a "Chinatown" in Germany and I've never come acroos mooncakes.
don't try nut moon cakes
Why?
but.. my fave moon cake is nut mooncake
haahhah wu ren mooncake
I don't like them either.
Nut mooncakes?? Yeah... I’ll remove myself.
I was eating one while watching but seriously, what they ate was the normal types. It was only filled with red bean paste. My favourite one is white lotus paste with double egg yolk. But since is they're first time, glad they got a nice impression!
I swear growing up Asian, moon cakes were everywhere in the house. It didn't even matter if it was in the bedroom or kitchen it would be all the flavours spread around the house
Here in Malaysia, the bakeries have invented a veriety of fusion-flavoured mooncakes. And my favourite is Oreo Chocolate Cheese filling in black snowskin mooncake. Nyumm! :D
These are like average 50 dollars and over very expensive but it's worth it cos it is hard to get those ingredients
dude in a pack not single
ProBattlerPlayz - I remember, in my country, it cost like 20$ for w pack of like 6. In America, they're like 3-5$ per cake.
My mother brought a pack of moon cake with 4 different kinds in it and it cost about $20-$30
It's a shame that you didn't let them try snow-skin mooncake, purple yam moon cake, and northern Chinese style moon-cakes which are very different from the ones you gave to them in this video!
I'm a Malaysian,I eat this every time in the mid-autumn festival. It never gets old to me,it's just sweet and delicious.
I know it's about lunar new year because I crave moon cakes. Lotus seed paste is amazing.
中秋節快樂!btw, any hongkongers here!?!?!?
香港人👍
Asian represent right here!
What country you from?
Zaid Shammas I'm Vietnamese
+Yukari Familiar Takizawa SAME HERE
Make them try songpeyons (I think thats how you spell it)
songpyeons* :)
songpyun
+GlitterStar AJ Yeah c:
i actually had my first moon cake monday and it was actually pretty good their descriptions of it were spot on
They should try ice cream moon cake, they are insanely good.
it kind of disturbs me that those mooncakes are square instead of round :(
+Kim Joiseu It's easier to be divided lol
you can easily divide round mooncakes too..? and by tradition, it's supposed to be round. i was just stating my opinion on how it kind of disturbs me. i never said that square mooncakes are wrong.
Lol I was joking based on my experience on cutting mooncakes. It's easier to divide a square mooncake equally, but for a round mooncake you have to rotate the cuts and make sure the angles are the same. That's irrelavent to your point but I do get what you're saying, I mean, hello? The moon is round that's how it got it's name.
you said you're joking, but you just typed an entire paragraph to defend yourself and it's about how you cut mooncakes...?
Kim Joiseu I didn't defend myself? It really was a joke and why so serious? I felt like I needed to explain because you didn't get the joke. And I'm not going to do it anymore. Bye.
My favourite is the lotus with no egg yolk and red bean. OOH. I HEARD THAT THERE ARE ICE CREAM MOON CAKES TOO! I heard that there's one with ice cream inside
I'm from Singapore, and here, mooncake is done in every way you can imagine and yes, there's ice cream mooncake produced by Haagen Daz - ice cream of a certain flavour, with a chocolate truffle in the centre to replace the salted egg yolk, all covered in a "snow skin" - which is basically the skin that is used in place of the traditional baked moon cake for "snow skin" mooncakes that aren't baked. Go google them, and be amazed :)
***** Well, perhaps not every, but it's really close to that, I suppose if people go crazy enough, like how durian mooncake's a thing.
EigramGn Oh gosh... DURIAN mooncake?? hahahahnothankshahah
Carmen K Yup, it's basically durian ice cream frozen in snow skin. Go google it and imagine the smell!
EigramGn Uggggghhhhhh.... haha
dont eat durian mooncake though
XD Durian itself is the smell and taste of perpetual regret.
I love durian. 'Smells like hell. Tastes like heaven.'
Rebecca Tao
Idk about that. xD my family says it smells like heaven and tastes like heaven, but for me it smells like hell and tastes just the way it smells. The first moon cake I've eaten contained durian.. and I haven't touched a moon cake since... It was a really sad experience. But after watching this video, I might try some..
***** Sounds good!
+Rebecca Tao yas!! Taste amazing and sometimes smells good when it's fresh
I’m glad it got such positive results!
There are soooo many other flavours now too. I like the frozen 'snowy' ones with a delicate opaque skin. Also, new this year, are the custard ones with a gooey centre ;)
White chick: "Why haven’t we been making beans into desserts?!" What the heck do you think you're eating? Obviously people have been making beans into desserts! Also have you ever heard of bean pie? Just because white people haven't appropriated desserts with beans yet that doesn't mean it's not a thing everywhere else! I'm sorry, I don't know why but that really infuriated me...
She's saying it pointing to how America/American Culture? doesn't make bean into deserts. She knows what she is eating includes beans and is a dessert. And I'm pretty sure she would know people make beans into desserts else where. She's surprise how beans in the mooncake is actually good, she wants to know why people in American/white people haven't made something similar to it/more of it because it's good.
I hate the egg and tbh I like the lotus without the egg
CookiesandCream222aj me too xD
Me too XD
mooncakes are the best i swear
They're yummy
I LOVE MOONCAKES In Hong Kong we have mooncakes every Mid-Autumn Festival and IT'S DELICIOUS!
For me its a tradition to make them in the mid-autumn festival
I remember I got to try moon cakes last year in my local chinatown. bought Mango Crunch moon cakes. soooooo gooooooooooood!!!! hopefully I can still get some before they're gone this year
"Why have we not been making beans into desserts?"
Has she never heard of bean pies?
I knew about these because of that one festival episode of Sagwa, the Chinese Siamese Cat.
as a Chinese,I should be enjoying this. But eventually I don't because it is too sweet for me like I'm eating a pack of sugar after eating a quarter of it.This most recommended mooncake that I enjoy is the lotus one with the salted egg yolk because the sweetness of the lotus and the salty from the egg yolk balanced it.
I saw moon cakes at Superstore the other day here in Canada and it looks delicious, I was so tempted to buy one. Now I might :)
