Tracpipe is a brand name by CounterStrike Which is far better quality that the stuff from big box stores. I’ve installed it in 100’s ro 1000’s of homes plus I’m a licensed gas line install contractor I also use snap connectors which are also good quality… I’ve come across many jobs that do it yourselfers have done and they are lucky their home never blew up… sloppy work leads to big problems so be safe or call a pro people
So good to know! Thanks!
There's no issue with running it by the duct work, or any other metal WHEN the CSST is bonded/grounded properly. Another place to bond is at the main service panel. There's no danger of the electricity jumping from the pipe to duct work when it's properly grounded because the path of least resistance is going to be the path right through the #6 gauge bonding to ground. All the fires that have happened are from the ones that weren't bonded, or incorrectly bonded and the electricity had to make a "jump" to something that was grounded because that other item was, unfortunately, the path of least resistance. The jump is what blows a hole right threw the side of the CSST from the extreme heat/voltage of the spark. Up here in Canada, we don't have any of these fire issues with CSST because our gas licensing is strictly regulated to be done and TAGGED by properly licensed technicians by the TSSA... It's not like these parts of of the US where the "plumbers" and home owners are doing their heating systems. We have TONS of this stuff in homes and we get lots of lightning.
Exactly right and many people screw up by cutting the outer sheathing back to far exposing the metal corrugated piping and not retapping it with the correct tape or cutting the pipe so the install is correct… I only use CounterStrike brand pipping and have not had a single problem and I use snap brass fittings bought at a HVAC supply house. Quality matters
Thnx for the class
Thanks, good to know...
I just install this pipe today i did it right :)
Thank you, sir, for this video. I am getting a new furnace installed in my attic and the guy selling the furnace suggested I use this pipe but I will be using the conventional pipe after seeing this and reading up on it.
awesome : - ))
Nothing "attracts" lighting but the earth. If there happens to be some thin wall pipe (CSST) near where lighting wants to go, it might be hit. Also, remember the regular electrical wiring found in a house, it might get blasted too. I think it's all snake oil. Again, why the CSST get hit instead of romex that might be nearby?
Attracts lighting??? Where did you get that from? It doesn't fair well when it is struck
by any high voltage but don't go telling people it attacks lighting. That's just no so.
WHAT qualifications do you posses to teach a "class" You don't need a license to install, but most manufacturer's require you be "certified" as an "installer" then employed by a licensed contractor.( varies by state) your "grounding" is the wrong term. "bonding is what is done to the metallic system(s) water and gas" they are different.
and the "bonding wire" size is predicated on the service size. Do not arbitrarly say it is # 6 I am upc and ipc certified inspector 1985 and 2006 respectively
Also "Track pipe" may be a misnomer as "Omni" has an underground pipe called "Trac pipe"
as far as a gas pipe attracting a lighting bolt, it will hit the highest part of the house and then look for a path to ground, hence the requirement for a "UFER" ( to protect the electrical system) this is typically the requirement for lighting protections for the utility company ( transformer) and the house

AZPIPEMD in nj you have to be certified or you get a fine
Hello is there another way I can not have to buy the risers? They are pretty expensive. ..thanks love your videos
I would like to see more of your work.. Where are you hiding?
Good video. I had a line like this run for a gas dryer. I would say about 4 - 5 feet in length. If the whole house has "Black Pipe" that is grounded, is the line that I put in also grounded? I assume this because we don't hear of fires starting from flexible lines to stoves, furnaces, etc. from lightning strikes. Would the original grounding from the black pipe be why connection tubing to appliances is safe? Thanks in Advance.
That’s what my situation is and couldn’t find nothing on internet to help... It makes sense what you’re saying.... I want to run csst from black pipe to dryer is that still grounded?... Have you had any issues?... Thanks
I dont know why this would be funny to anyone. This is a serious issue with this type of pipe. Lightning takes the path of least resistance, if these lines are close by lightning will jump to them. Good video.
were you on the Sopranos? JK
Im glad you didnt inspect my house! sound like a typical inspector. clueless, Those who cant do, Teach... Weenie
you do not ground that to the water main you grounded to an open slot in your electric panel preferably the ground slot
Why not to the water main? I just have my mech. subs run trac pipe to my clients laundry room.
CSST 'attracts" lightening? Where did you get that info from. Yes it has to be grounded in case of a strike but..attracts? Don't scare people..Jesus.
Just going to say that this guy is kind of a clown. IF you look at the people that had a fire with CSST you will find one of three errors happened. Installing CSST or really any metal pipe in the attic of a house is dumb as it act like a lightning rod. Second issue would be grounding and bonding. Yes they are two different things. The third thing would be the guy that read the book and figured he was a certified installer and did a lousy job. You should be a licensed fitter to install this stuff. It is fabulous stuff that really makes life easy. But it must be installed correctly.
even if ur licensed, the inspector will make you take the trac pipe out!!! the guy is NOT a clown , but YOU ARE!
'They attract lightning ? I had to laugh. Great idea , lets make it out lightning attract stuff then tell em to earth bond it. Good vid though. Thank you.
Who told this dude you can ground/bond to water main. Nope. Code says directly to home electric ground rod to bond it to electrical system. Trac pipe and that home depot shit is not the same. And as far as many homes burned down, number one it was bad installs number two where are your stats
Copper wire going directly togrounding rod is only way. Apparently you ate not professional . bo ded to water line. Lol
this is not a class
