Pennsylvania house explosion leaves 5 dead: Doorbell camera captures video of the incident

- (AP) Five people were found dead after a house explosion in western Pennsylvania that destroyed three structures and damaged at least a dozen others, authorities said Sunday.
Plum Borough Police Chief Lanny Conley said the bodies of four adults and one adolescent were recovered after the blast shortly before 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the borough, about 20 miles east of Pittsburgh.
“This is certainly a sad, sad day and a sad time, for not just the folks in Plum but all the folks in the community and in this region,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.
Of the three people taken to hospitals, two were released while one remained in critical condition, said Steve Imbarlina, deputy director of fire and emergency services for Allegheny County. Fifty-seven firefighters were treated at the scene for minor issues.

We had that happen in Belton Missouri behind our house to the left. Only one wall survived behind the refrigerator. The roof blow off and landed in the street in front of the missing house. No other damage to an of the other houses. Shook the hell out of our house, knocked all pictures off the walls. The man that lived there was trying to commit suicide, failed. He had minor injuries.

it was likely some type of drug lab, youd need some serious dedication to make a homemade explosive that large and some serious stupidity to accidentally set it off
Well it could theoretically depending on other factors involved but if it was a meth lab they tend to blow horizontally, don't ask me how i know that. This is a weird one for sure, I've slowed it down & enhanced the image cause UA-cam compression is the worst, Its coming straight from the front of the house near the front door itself, likely underneath. I'm definitely curious.

Deepest sympathy to families and friends of all victims - some of whom were neighbors and included a 12-year old boy. The house that exploded was located on Rustic Ridge Drive in Plum, PA. Per Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article: "The Rustic Ridge housing development sits on top of abandoned mine land and is surrounded by shallow oil and gas wells, some still producing and some abandoned. Two producing vertical gas wells are within about 1,000 feet of the home that exploded."
That didn’t come from an oil and gas well because the source of the explosion came from a home. It’s highly likely a gas leak
@@klbills8804 apparently they were having hot water tank issues, but no effing way.. what size hot water tanks you guys running in America.. a hot water tank might lift half the side of the house its attached to but whatever this was flatted both the neighbors aswell.. that aint no hot water tank unless it had a pallet of tannerite parked next to it

The hot water tank issue may have resulted in a gas leak - which could very easily cause such an explosion. @@mysty0

If you slow the video down to frame 1. The explosion is bigger than the entire house. Frame1 shows the entire second floor explodes and bottom floor just collapses out..what could do that? What about a leaking ac refrigerate its a flammable gas in the attic maybe? Like r410 ???
seems the most likely, since in the aerial shots, it didnt look like the house had a basement, a likely spot for an HVAC unit to be installed would be the attic. all it would take is a leaky refrigerant line, or gas line to start filling up the attic, and and soon as it gets close enough to the furnaces pilot light, up it goes.

Help him out how? By killing him? If he worked for the gas company, you'd think he'd smell gas or something right before the explosion. The fact that you mentioned the gas company made me think this was a murder/suicide.
I seen a comment on another video that said the homeowner hit the gas line while changing out the hot water heater. I have no idea if that's true or not but when I read that my thought was that the homeowner might have called him to come over to verify he hit the line, to help fix it, etc. since he worked for the gas company. I have not seen this reported anywhere tho, just a comment by another poster on a different video. Time will tell as the investigation moves forward.

This has motivated me to get a new water heater and to get the gas lines checked by a qualified plumber. You can't be messing around with natural gas. Hoping down the road we can completely eliminate it from our home. Just not worth it.
They would of been able to smell a natural gas leak, it's not a subtle odour.

This is 1000% not a gas explosion. Only high order explosives do this and a lot of it.
Someone was either making or storing explosives and it went wrong.
There just isnt any home or gas explosion with a high enough brisance that causes a building to be completely levelled to its foundations like this.
This is Tannerite or ANFO or something homemade like TATP, but you'd want a 5 gallon drum full to cause ths kinda damage, even more if it was Ammonium nitrate based.
If it were Tannerite, I’m willing to bet it was over 100+ pounds to completely annihilate 3 houses.

agreed one thousand percent - this was an explosive device, improvised or otherwise. a gas leak? nobody smelled it? there isn't enough house here to store enough gas at full pop to prime a "gas explosion" of this magnitude. When you hear about a gas explosion when someone's away on extended vacation, and couldn't be around to smell the gas - it doesn't blow up even as strong like this - you get a blast rip out from near where the furnace is, it blows out, it doesn't shred the whole house - the blast brisance etc as noted - look at the overhead shot of the debris - everything shredded up to little bits, like it was put thru a giant shredder. Gas explosions don't do that. You get one black corner everything blown out - but bigger bits of wall and framing and furniture etc remain intact.
Somebody maybe worked at a mine or quarry or something - this signature is totally NOT a gas explosion especially while people are at home like FIVE people with visitors - not at night sleeping somehow overcome by carbon monoxide/leaky fumes like the gas smell would make it impossible to remain inside - nooooo way, Jose

Prayers to their family and loved ones. But this is why I’m terrified of have a gas home all it takes is for me to forget 1 time at the right time then boom.
I live in a gas home and it is imperative to have working natural gas detectors near every gas stove, gas fireplace, gas water heater. When those things go off you get everyone out of the house and call the fire department and gas company. You have to be diligent when you have natural gas.
