In those days, buying things “on time” meant using credit instead of cash. “On time” referred to regularly timed payments. That was also when a married woman in the US couldn’t get a credit card - called a “charge card” - without her husband’s signature. And charge cards were issued by individual stores, for the most part, not by banks as general purchasing cards. You could write a check if you provided a telephone number, in some places.
Yep, we females have come a long way...we can get credit cards now. Then again, men control our bodies, & uteruses now, AGAIN, just like the dark ages...so I guess we haven't come so far, after all. Maybe, now that Dems control the Senate, a womans right to control her own body will be codified....? Maybe.
Gladys was neurotic BEFORE the Stephens' moved in. 🙂 She was watching the house from the beginning. It's only when they moved in that she really got even more "unstable". However, she was right. Strange things did go on at the Stephens'. 🙂
At 0:03-4 , Gladys’ facial expression is a just a little bit of acting magic . The closed eyes and raised eyebrows are perfect ; indignant and entitled .. whilst knowing she’s being a little naughty .
Sam acts like Darrin is rich the way she goes on about decorating the place, and it's not like Sam will use her witchcraft to get anything. I always liked that house, especially the window seat and built in bookcases. I always wondered what medication Mrs.Kravitz took. LOL.
Back then most middle-class jobs paid enough to support a family on one wage. They could also buy the furniture and pay it off by instalments over several years.
I wish I had her powers two days ago when a doting dad was standing watching his two brats chasing & stamping at the pigeons! What those poor birds Go thru. What is WRONG with humans?!
the Steven's house was also Dr Bellows home on I Dream of Jeannie. I dont know how both studios used the same set, they were competing shows on different networks after a few years the set burned down and had to be rebuilt, ended up slightly different. The show did several episodes at other locations while the set was rebuilt.
At 0:21 when Mrs Kravitz was looking in the windows, the shot from outside showed the slanted support beams holding up the front of the house set thru the window. Can't believe that wasn't noticed during filming !
Yup. One of THE biggest bloopers. Much worse than a shadow from a mic boom or something. This clip has been mentioned in a few documentaries about bloopers.
Wow I never once recall him catching the train . Love his car though ! It always puzzled me why mr Brady would often come home after work thru the front door when he always parked deep down in the driveway .. for a rear entrance (Pardon the pun) .
In the NYC-metro area, where they were supposed to have lived, it was common to avoid driving into NYC; even more common now. The hellacious traffic is one reason, but there were others. The parking is - and always was - another big problem. There were some parking garages in the city, but they were (and are) expensive, and often filled up. Commuter trains were designed for “company men” whose wives dropped them at the station and picked them up in the evening. The guys often had regular card games on the trains. Going home, there was a bar car on the commuter trains, too. And only one non-smoking car.
@@Historian212 the Stephens lived in Westport Connecticut, the same community that the Ricardos moved to after leaving their Manhattan apartment. Commuters living in those Connecticut suburbs drive to the station and take the metro-North into Manhattan 😉!
I; loved loved. SAM*S House--- not too big; but so warm& it had character. I, remember the nieghborhood---- same one from the Partridge Family& I Dream of Jeannie....
THE BEVERLY HILLHILLIES was actually filmed in a real mansion. The owner either let them use it rent free or charged a minimal amount. On BEWITCHED, some of the interroirs were real. The staircase, but it only led to small rooms, maybe used for storage. They had to he strong enough to carry someone's weight. The den also became Tabitha's room hy adding a false wall where needed. Other walls would slid so they could get the camera where they needed it.
I never stopped to think that at that time, having a house like this and driving a convertible car, meant they actually had money. Or better yet, Darren was making a pretty good living.
Colorized. meh. I remember the B/W version, the art of B/W photography is evident in the scenes. just coloring over doesn't make it any better. just Technicolor
It's implied that she's at least over 300 years old. In the first season episode 'Eye of the Beholder', Darrin finds a 300 year old picture of Samantha in an antique shop. The picture was planted by Endora to mess with Darrin, but Samantha never said that that the picture was a total fake and that she hadn't been born yet.
Does Abner have problems with his eyesigh? I've sank a few beers in my lifetime but I've never been that drunk. Not even if she was a millionairess with her own brewery lol
Poor Gladys. She sees facts, and is treated like the "conspiracy theorists" who accurately foresaw that the c - 19 panic was really about tyranny, not health.

That was the days when family could watch television together and not get shocked.
Why not full episodes?
I love that Endora Left her purse and then zapped it back. That sound effect is perfect.

Thank you for explaining this. I have watched this episode so many times and never noticed she said “on time” or what it meant.
@tunisiancrochetchannel No. That was simple Layaway
I love the original Darrin! Dick York did such a great job!
He was very likeable.
You got that right! The original Darren really knew how to Express himself ! Those facial expressions were gold!
The second Darren always seemed annoyed to be there. The magic was gone.
Me too lol 😂
Yes the second Darren always seemed angry.
Gladys was neurotic BEFORE the Stephens' moved in. 🙂 She was watching the house from the beginning. It's only when they moved in that she really got even more "unstable". However, she was right. Strange things did go on at the Stephens'. 🙂
It's so funny that she alone sees the stuff going on... It was a clever plot idea...
Love these two together on the show but this darrin is too cute with big ears 👂 lol 😂
I've learned the first neighbor to come over is the trouble maker.
At 0:03-4 , Gladys’ facial expression is a just a little bit of acting magic . The closed eyes and raised eyebrows are perfect ; indignant and entitled .. whilst knowing she’s being a little naughty .
Abners steady hand is admirable
Love the brooch Endora is wearing!
She left that to Elizabeth Montgomery, when Angles, passed away. 8 carrots. 1974. Great show. Miss them all.
Abner was always so awesome and saw the best in Gladys lol he was just real and awesome
Just the cutest couple ever ❤

I always absolutely loved their house 🏠, for the same things you mentioned: bookshelves and window seat.
Ditto 💗
No You didn’t listen to her totally she said they would buy the furniture on time like everyone else does!! Merry Christmas 🎄
Back then most middle-class jobs paid enough to support a family on one wage. They could also buy the furniture and pay it off by instalments over several years.
No, it was Darrin who told her to buy whatever she wanted. Watch it again.
Its been soo long,, since we had a full episode, please upload full episode, we all would really appreciate a full episode.
Have you been thinking about a “full episode “ by any chance ?
As Sam once said, "Poor Mrs Kravitz. Sometimes my heart just goes right out to her." (ENDORA MOVES IN FOR A SPELL)
Sam would be a fun neighbor. 😀
I'd rather have Sam in bed !
I wish I had her powers two days ago when a doting dad was standing watching his two brats chasing & stamping at the pigeons! What those poor birds Go thru. What is WRONG with humans?!
Endora's fashion is usually on point... but what the heck is she wearing here, a smock?! lol
the Steven's house was also Dr Bellows home on I Dream of Jeannie.

The show did several episodes at other locations while the set was rebuilt.
The same company, Screen Gems, was producing both shows.

@That Tunisian Crochet Life
You mean the people the places are not real?
Oh no
Oh yes, good catch!! I saw it and assumed it was the stairwell inside or a reflection from outside. Funny how we all missed it!
Yup. One of THE biggest bloopers. Much worse than a shadow from a mic boom or something.

I've often wondered why Darrin took the train when he had a car. But the advantage is avoiding the traffic.

My favorite TV 📺 show-- my favorite house 🏠.
I wish them a long happy marriage iffen they so desire.
Ummm, this was a TV show in the 60s?
LOL ... that's what you should get for being a "Nosey 👃 Neighbor", Gladys
Imagine her face in the 2020’s when she looks in and sees them going at it on the sofa !
Now days Gladys would be arrested for being a peeping tom...
What an amazing show this was!!
Of course the discussion is moot since Darren would not live for a thousand years
He was the best Darin! Too bad he couldn't have finished off the contract. I didn't like the 2nd, he was so cold and unloving.
I agree.
I; loved loved. SAM*S House--- not
too big; but so warm& it had character.
I, remember the nieghborhood---- same
one from the Partridge Family& I Dream of Jeannie....
ESPECIALLY love these early shows of Bewitched, before they got so mod and crazy.
My bro and sil, had a Mrs Kravitz as a landlord living right next door. Lol.
THE BEVERLY HILLHILLIES was actually filmed in a real mansion. The owner either let them use it rent free or charged a minimal amount.

The original exteriors of The Beverly Hillbillies were filmed at a real mansion. Not too soon after they started they were filming everything on sets.
Kravitz first appearance was Be It Ever So Mortgaged
I never stopped to think that at that time, having a house like this and driving a convertible car, meant they actually had money. Or better yet, Darren was making a pretty good living.
Inmejorable serie disfrutó muchísimo viendo los mini capítulos gracias
Gladys was the Karen of Bewitched
Well put, Robert!
But simplistic. And wrong.
No, her name was Gladys. Not Karen.
If only Gladys was confident to ask for witch powers
I remember that episode from Bewitched favorite like funny
I like to watch d full apisode !!!
Gladys really needed a hobby.
Always enjoyed this show. However, does anyone notice how Abner across the street is medicating his wife? That's Laudanum by the way......hmmmmmm
I really liked this Darrin. the new one didn't seem right for Samantha
Just wondering..is Gladys any relation of Lucy from the Big Bang Theory???
The first Gladys Kravitz was the best
Great show
The Karen of the 50s lol
This was early autumn 1964.
So funny, had not seen this
What did Gladys Kravitz think Abner was gonna do?
1964 women's fashion at his finest...Samantha looks classically elegant! Nowadays, ripped jeans and dyed purple hair.
in the early 70's she switched to slacks and blouses very mod, a look my mother emulated as the style suited a newly outing lesbian.
Ewww never on me ick old school all the way
She also had beautiful hair.
I wonder how many women went completely bald emulating samantha’s 100 brush strokes before bed routine.
Gladas Kravitz the original
Karen
more like Gladys Kravtiz no.2 was the prototype Karen.
No, her name was Gladys. Not Karen.

How old is Samantha if Endora and Maurice are over a thousand? Did they ever say?
It's implied that she's at least over 300 years old. In the first season episode 'Eye of the Beholder', Darrin finds a 300 year old picture of Samantha in an antique shop. The picture was planted by Endora to mess with Darrin, but Samantha never said that that the picture was a total fake and that she hadn't been born yet.
Later episode Darren finds a painting of her in 17th century clothing. She claims it wasn't her but I am sure it was meant to hint at the truth.
Is that an oldsmobile If so what model?
'64 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu. Chevy was one of the 2 major sponsors (they alternated with Quaker Oats every week)

Bango.. Is that even a word?
That house was a brick house, not a White House.
