  • UPDATE : I have had some people message me telling me that they were unable to get the V5 pens to work, Other people have messaged me very happy and have had the same results as my self! All of the pens shown in this video worked for me EXACTLY how the video shows they worked. whether it was by adding tape to the pen so it would work or if they just simply worked because they fit.I don't know if Cricut changed the design of the pen adapter for the newer explore airs or not,.I have had my cricut for about a year now...
Here are a few alternatives to buying those expensive Cricut pens that you use in the Cricut Explore/Explore air

WOW not only did you show me alternatives pins , You just taught me how to use this feature on my cricket. It’s a year old and I’m still learning all the cuts:layering etc … Now I won’t be afraid to try a project using this other feature THANKS❣️

It's the end of February 2023 thank you so much for your help. I'm making a large quantity of tags for St Patrick's Day gifts for a lady's group. I went with the Pilot Precise V5. I know you and your family specifically Ray are going through a lot right now, know that I think of you often especially when I'm crafting. Stay safe stay strong.

Hey girl! I have been subscribed for 2 years but this video was even older but guess what???? Super helpful and totally relevant!!!! I got my cricut for Christmas and been searching for videos on this topic. I even watched the video you we're referencing tonight! Lol... You finally & actually answered my questions! I didn't want to buy adapters yet I just wanted to see what I can explore and play with as I get too know my machine! Your the best girlfriend! Thanks for being awesome! God bless all of you!

A company on Etsy (Flywheel IT) makes custom pen adapters for cutting machines, including Cricut. I have purchased 3 of them for my Silhouette and they work great. Definitely worth the investment to use less expensive and frankly better pens than the ones sold by the cutting machine manufacturers!

Buy foam type of pencil grips. The Dollar Tree has them. They "adapt" ballpoint pens, the precision pens, the Crayola markers, and even the Dollar Tree thin markers. It really does work. Cheap and a great fix.

    • @bcrs4716
      @bcrs4716 8 років тому +8

They also help you to control the thickness/thinness of your lines of your markers/pens. Plus, you can take the pencil grip off of one pen and use it one another, so one pack will be enough.

OMG, thank you SOOOO much for experimenting with these alternatives and sharing! I'm so excited, because I need some pens for my Cricut Explore for a couple of projects I want to try, but really didn't want to pay the full price at the craft stores or online for pens that I know will not last very long. I'm so glad I came across your post, because you actually showed the differences in how they work with the Cricut instead of just listing the names of alternatives like other posts. I can't wait to see your other posts now!

This post is so old that everyone probably already knows by now but my daughter & I each just got our very first Cricut. It's the Explore Air 2 & one of the very first things we found on Amazon for them are adapters for Sharpie markers. There are 3 different adapters to use 3 of the different types of Sharpies with. The adapters were fairly inexpensive also. I think we paid $6 - $7 for them & I already had a whole set of Sharpies because I do a lot of scrapbooking & use them for that too. I haven't tried mine yet but my daughter has. They worked okay but not as good as those Pilots. Of course, my daughter & I are Very new to Cricut...like we've only had them for about a week lol

Not sure if anyone has already answered this, not going to read all these comments. If you have cricut explore air, V5 pens work in slot A when you use the "score" option instead of using the "write" option. It worked for me! Hope this helps!

Open both ends of the cricut pen, pull out ink sponge cylinder from inside & put into a plastic food storage bag. Using an eyedropper & liquid alcohol or any regular liquid perm ink begin dropping dots along the sponge cylinder until it's thoroughly soaked. Close the bag and let it sit for an hour. Remove, reinsert into your cricut pen, re-add both ends of your pen. This works like a charm.

Thanks for the information. I got my Cricut this week and have not yet tried the pens. However, I did see a Circut UA-cam Hack video where the girl said to take out the pen adapter and use a ponytail coated rubber band and wrap around a regular pen. She said that held the pen tight and it worked well. I plan to try as soon as I figure out how to use my Cricut.

So I got them for $15 ish dollars as I bought a starter tool kit for like $50. It’s crazy! But I needed it. I have to go back before that sales over and get vinyl, vinyl transfer easy press mat and bag and anything else I may need.

Have you ever had any problems with the V5 pilot pen either skipping or the ink not coming out?
I am using a maker, writing out wedding invitations and I’m LOVING the look of this pen and how fine it is, but every so often it will go over an area and completely miss a letter and you can see where there was pressure in the paper from the pen.
I’ve had the pen turned upside down for at least an hour.

So appreciate your honest review of the pens you tested. I get the start and stop marks using the cricut pen. my results do not look good using the high dollar cricut pens. I sent cricut a comment in their drop down list within DS when logging off I've had no reply from cricut.

I watched this video earlier today and came home and tried a Paper Mate Flair M and it worked great. I didn't need any tape and it didn't leave stop and start marks. I used a really skinny font (DJ Juicy in Cricut) and it was pretty small and it looks awesome. I wonder if the Paper Mate marker was pushed too far down in the accessory holder. I feel like that really matter because if it's too far down it will press too long and leave that bleed. I'm excited to try the Precise V5. I've used Crayola markers in the past as well and as long as the tip isn't smashed and it's not too far down in the accessory clamp it does pretty well, but there usually is a tiny bit of bleed. The Paper Mate does much better.

You can write the company for pens and advise them that they have another platform to sell their pens Great video

Are you using the original adapter that came with the Cricut Air? Is there a chance they've changed the design of things so that this doesn't work anymore? I got an explore for Christmas, and I watched your video and went out and bought several different pen kinds to try out, including the Precise V5. Mine did not go far enough into the adapter to write. Looking at your video, I noticed you comparing the tips of the Papermate Flair to the Cricut pen. It appears like the top of your Cricut pen is more conical than mine, but we do have different pens. I wonder if they've changed the design or if this is just a difference between pens.

I saw this video and immediately ordered the same pilot v5 set. But I used it on my cricut air 2. It wouldn't go down enough to write. If I pushed it down more it would pop out. I used the knife to cut away the part that made it pop out and it worked wonderfully(better than cricut original pens, finer). But now wonder if my pens would leak or not. If I got a second chance I may try the score method that some other comment mentions. Bottom line, this pilot v5 wouldn't work with air 2 so perfectly until you do some changes.

Great Video ..You can use a soft Pencil grip instead to hold some of the pens, markers instead. Take out the reg, adapter that is in the machine... I looked at local dollar tree, no luck here, but did find them at Walmart with the ink pen, and markers.. there is 20 in a pack.. for like 2.49 think it was.. the only ones here are colored semi clear with glitter in them. they don't fit well over pens that already have a rubber grip on them.. i was able to remove the built on rubber grip on a set i bought to try and they ended up fitting in the reg. Cricut holder.. Don" over force the clamp on the machine to close around the grip...don't want to stress the joint on the machine..
