I sort of went through the same thing. I have all full frame Sony glass and an a7iii as my main photography camera so I wasn't stepping down to crop fx30. I was going to purchase the fx3 and then considered the a7siii but I can't justify spending that much for my small channel. I went with the ZV-E1 and have been loving it. Haven't had any issues with overheating. Did a few 50min interviews at 24fps without any issues. I wish the weather sealing was a little better for what I do. I put the new Viltrox 16mm 1.8 on mine, shoot in aperture priority with S-cinetone and it looks really nice straight out of camera. Streamlined my workflow. The 16mm in dynamic stabilization is 24mm.

I saw another person mention just opening all of the doors on the camera if you're planning to film for a long time will help a lot with overheating. Similar to you, I refuse to get the fan. So opening all of the port doors and the battery door to help release the heat. Sorry you're not happy with it though! I bought mine specifically to be my vlogger camera and reserve my FX3 for paid client work (I create content and produce for clients). I love having my ZV-E1 for my vlog content though. I like that I can just throw it in my backpack. Also, it doesn't look as expensive as the FX3. I'm a small woman so walking around with a $5k camera set up by myself didn't feel wise. I sprang for the Sony 16-35PZ f4 and was pleasantly surprised how much I didn't really miss f2.8 as much as I thought I would -- at least for vlogging specifically anyway. All that to say, glad you popped up on my feed! Subscribed

Just so you know, Sony glass is optimized to take advantage of Active & Dynamic Stabilization (like focus breathing comp). BTW, the internal mic is pretty damn good.

I can see the ZVE1 isn’t ideal for your use case if you want to stream that long, while charging…. I’m loving mine, but use it mostly for 1-5 minutes takes while idling between shots without issue. In the Georgia Summer heat with the screen closed I get around 30-45 minutes continuous takes (which I never do) before overheating, which is longer than I want to be working in the heat myself!
    Horses for courses….

Thanks so much for a great video. I am in exactly the same boat but with the FX30. I bought it this week and have been worried I made the wrong choice...the honesty at the end has set my mind at rest for the exact reason I bought it. Talking head/live streaming/conference calls and corporate presentations over Ecamm live. I was really concerned about the over heating...I think its not worth the risk. Although I LOOOVE the idea of the ZVE1. Maybe one day I will pick one up when the price comes down a little. Thanks again, new sub! Peter, Vancouver

It would be interesting to see your view now that some further tests have been done and people have identified that after the initial heat-safety-shut-down you are able to then continue filming for longer?
Also ... which focal length and aperture did you shoot this with?

Hey my dude! From one content creator to another I appreciate the honest review but there are a few things that confuse me about this video. All of the quirks you mentioned when switching make sense to why you would get the ZVE1, and I think many of the complaints you have are easily fixable or just need to be tweaked in the settings, if you could do that I’m sure you could get the most of that camera, I’ve seen countless amount of creators use this for even big budget shoots and have no problems, maybe overheating but that’s rare for most. I don’t think you made a bad decision, I just think you might need a little more time with it. ✊🏾

I would never trade in my FX3 for the ZV-E1. Most of Sony’s (and 3rd party’s) best glass is big and heavy. They will not pair well with the ZV-E1. I almost bought one as a B cam, but decided against it due to its poor build quality and lack of buttons.

Im exactly in the same position! I bought my fx a month before zve1 was released a and I was pissed. Fx3 also was my dream camera but definitely overkill for my casual use. Im debating on selling fx3 and buying zve1 which must be loosing some money, but love new autofocus, compact size, built in microphone and software functions. Please tell if it was a good choice to change fx3 for zve1. I do some “studio” recordings “talking head” style and I’m a concerned about overheating issue. APSC is nice, but I really wanted decent bokeh on a zoom lens. APSC can get a "full frame" look with their 1.4 prime lens, but I really need the convenience of zoom. I hate swapping lens due to the possibility of getting dust in my sensor. Call me paranoid but I like the convenience of having 3 primes in 1 zoom lens for example.

Perhaps you read this perhaps you don't I am however taking the time to write my thoughts on your video. First of all thanks for putting this video out there. It appears we share some similar thoughts.
    1. Both coming from Panasonic, I owned the GH5 and 12-35 Lumix (& still own the 7-14 Olympus).
    2. I wanted as small as possible system set up for travel and solo creator.
What I have learned. Small is not always better. I did own the A7C and sold that which I do not regret. I have the A7siii and A1 with a of couple GM lenses, a G lens and one more Sony lenses for now and all prime. Sony lenses (new ones) are optimized for Sony cameras. It is cool Sony allows 3rd party lenses, for sure you can save money at the same time not all features on the 3rd party lenses might perform on Sony cameras. ...just the way it is bro.
Have you heard of the movie the "Creatror," ua-cam.com/video/K2bSq4gIQE0/v-deo.html it was shot on FX3, man that is one super camera! With that said though as you said and I agree with you the camera needs to suit your needs and I respect that.
Friendly Note for you unless you are praising other content creators probably not a good idea to say what you do not like about them since you along with so many content creators work hard and long (take it or leave it).
If you still with that online creating thing more than likely you will learn more etc and your needs will adjust with that work is work and time is time and if a memory card fails which it might (mine has once and I have heard of others failing) then you will have to redo the work if you can or desire. Two cards is an absolute must for me and many others out there.
This creating game can be expensive, quality you usually have pay for it, it is an investment then will or should eventually start to make you a return in various ways. Here is one way, you have all these comments to read and some of the information might be super helpful and others you toss, perhaps you toss my comment and do not reply.
I wish you continued success and thanks for posting your video!! I seriously like when ex Panasonic Lumix users change to Sony and hearing their thoughts and new experiences. I liked Panasonic Lumix menu more than Sony but in many other ways Sony has done well for me, it is a process, good luck and all the very best.

8:35 Man, I hear you… but I’ve been down that road of trying to save money but creating more problems for myself. Like, yes, you definitely should buy support devices for holding you Cams, it’s a $2000+ and you are looking for inexpensive ways to mount it 😮.
I’ve rocked with Sony through all the issues after shooting GH5 for so long. My problem was in line with dependability, like overheating at a cost of $2000 it’s still $2000 plus it shouldn’t overheat at all. After all the woes I’m back with Panasonic for talking head, webcam & events. I may switch back but only after this phase of Sony glitching is fixed and I’m sure Sony will get there before they rely to heavily on AI for future Cameras.
Currently, I have 3 LUMIX S5 II and 1 S5 IIX and protecting them is priority 1.
    Good Content Bro

i explain in the video that sometimes the camera is really far away or mounted above me, so i need to be able to frame remotely. it's a core feature to any solo-content creator and is not widely discussed amongst pro-YT influencers sadly

I haven’t watched your video, but I guess you regretted. That’s how much FX3 is better than ZV-E1. I own FX3 and I know it.

As for the overheating, people are finding that there are external fans (heat sinks) sold on Aliexpress that can be mounted on the back of the camera to alleviate the overheating issues.

Those honestly dont do a damn thing but add maybe 5 mins recording. You really need a breeze or external fan if shooting indoors which is pretty "ghetto"
