Love your content. My ongoing project is to shoot my z50 with my kit lens for landscape photography. With a little bit of light room, the pictures look very good. I also use black and white for street photography. This z50 and the 16-50 kit lens is awesome. Ken rockwell and Thom Hogan both said this is an awesome camera. I use the 35mm f1.8s for that 50mm field of view and take shots of my kids. Z50, in my opinion, needs more love!

Nikon Z50 and it’s kit lenses are just amazing best travel camera by far for me. And when I really want good portraits I use Nikon Z50 with 50mm f1.8s just amazing. 🤩
Great to see I'm not alone :) I'm using the 16-50 on a taped and scruffy zfc almost exclusively for my street photography, and even though the GAS sometimes call for purchases of cool new stuff, I tend to stay with the simple. I think about 75% of all my photos are taken at 16mm, but the flexibility that I actually can just twist the ring and zoom in is great! That combo is really the best tool for the job for me, and for other photo styles I use other cameras.
That’s awesome! It really is a superb lens for the job (especially if you don’t need fast apertures). I got GAS pretty bad so now I’m up to 7 lenses total haha. Going to make another video with the 16-50 though in the next month or so!
@@RolandKaufmann Well, noone is immune to GAS ;) I do other types of photography as well, so I've got a 16-50, 50-250, 23f1.4, 50f1.2, 11-20f2.8 (all for DX) and for FX-shooting, a Z6, both 50 and 85 1.8S, 24-200, a crappy 18f8 and my old F-mount 80-400... but still, when it comes to street photography, I go back to zfc+16-50 every time. It's very close to perfect for me as it's small, light, discreet and I never go under f5.6 anyway on the streets.

Hi Roland! i love your photos, how are you able to shoot in between objects to focus on the people or object behind it? Like the pic of the mural of the astronaut or the people in between the train, I love those shots.
Thank you Kim! I use single point auto focus to very specifically choose where to focus. It’s in the area focus menu. Try it out if you haven’t already.
Nice shots. Even though these lenses can't match with the primes. Your photos show that this one is quite capable in the hands of a good photographer 👍
nice video :) I'm also using that kit lens ( and the 50-250 ) on my Zfc, they are really nice, they just don't like low light but that's expected from a kit lens anyway ^^
Great photos, so the kit lens is good for bright situations right? That explains why the pictures are a bit noisey and aren't that sharp when i am practicing indoors with less light coming in.
@@RolandKaufmann that's good to know and puts me to relief since I thought at first I may have made the wrong choice for my starter camera (although this seemed much better than the a6400 and was cheaper with an extra free battery) . Guess it's just my noobie skills and bad lighting/ low light capability of the lens that makes the indoor pics grainy.

I'm also using the kit lens and the 50-250mm on my Nikon Zfc… the only thing I am still struggling with is the image editing. I downloaded some Presets in LR but I just don't get this nice look all of your images have… they are a bit vintage but not too much. How do you do this?
Hey Andre, thanks so much for the kind words! Oh very cool, we’re basically on the same setup then :). First of all I shoot most of my (RAW) photos slightly underexposed. Then most of my editing is done in the first panel that has exposure sliders. This is where I raise the shadows up (around 40-50 on the slider) so they’re back to where I want them. Then I either leave the highlights or slightly lower them (-20 to -30 on slider) to give a slight “HDR” look. You can raise the overall exposure slightly if the image is still too dark. From there I usually play around with the colour correction if it’s needed. Sometimes the camera picked the wrong white balance (I leave it in auto in camera). I try to to over edit the images cause I find they start to look a little funny if you move the sliders all the way to either end. Good luck and let me know if you need any more advice.
I've had a mixed experience with the Z 16-50 DX lens. Most of the time, it works great and produces nice results. But it IS very soft to the sides and corners, especially at the shorter focal lengths and smaller F-numbers. That combined with field curvature makes for a difficult time getting evenly sharp photos in some situations, in my experience. Stopping down and using a higher F-number does help to bring the corner sharpness up a bit, but it also brings the center sharpness down, which unfortunately harms the high level of sharpness that the lens has been praised for. Again, this is my experience. I go back and forth between being somewhat disappointed and happy with it. Either way, considering the blend of price, quality, and portability I've got to say it's a good lens. I just wish I had known about the corner softness before I bought it. I hadn't found any review that points out just how "bad" it can be prior to making the purchase. What's your experience been like? Cheers!
Hmmm that’s interesting to hear. I’ve shot all through the focal lengths and F stops and have got sharp images the whole way 😅. In this video alone I shot at a variety of settings. I also use single point AF in most cases.

I will have to do some more testing. I suspect that it could be the result of the lens design in combination with manufacturing variability (read: errors). ONE of these factors alone mightn't be enough to cause any issues, but combined... Yeah. Either way, I'm glad yours is fine and great video!

@@kitespongan My "solution" was to buy 2 prime lenses: The Viltrox 13 and 33 mm f/1.4. I still find myself using the 16-50 DX whenever I want to go light or don't care as much for better image quality. It is DEFINITELY a convenient lens but it has some limitations. I think my expectations for the lens were too high, having seen so many great reviews of it. I suppose it is a great lens given the low price, but "given the low price" is really the key here. "Great" doesn't exist in a vacuum. That's where I made a mistake when evaluating the lens. What are you planning to use it for?
it's been a year since you uploaded this video so i'm not sure you still see the comment here or not...i'm thinking of purchasing this Z50 camera after selling my D5300, just wondering is the color of the photo naturally yellowish like that or you did edit the color to your liking? all the pics you took are lovely tho and i'd love to have that vibe on mine too, just i might not want yellowish photo on some occasions. Hey, thanks for your questions. I edited the photos in Lightroom so this is not what you would get out of camera. Definitely able to edit the photos however you would like :).

@@r340paired with a faster lens it can definitely do both! I love the Nikkor 35 and 85mm f1.8 lenses. You would want something a little wider for Astro though.
Awesome to hear! There’s no harm in shooting in the auto settings to get started. I’d recommend searching videos that explain the exposure triangle if you want to start making manual adjustments to the F stop, shutter speed, or ISO.
