Absolutely extraordinary. I have no idea how they continue to do it. But after more than 40 years of listening, anything with ECM on it means simply bliss.
Absolutely. Bought my first ECM release (Marion Brown's 'Afternoon of a Georgia Faun' in 1971 and bought almost all the jazz releases and a good number of the 'New Series' ever since. One of the greatest cultural enterprises of my lifetime. At age 71 I don't buy as much music as I used to but along with records from a very few favorite artists I still buy the ECM records as they're released. Extraordinary depth of music.
I’m an old guy. I walked into a record store when I was 9 with my father and saw this beautiful artwork on an album at the counter. It was a tree out in the middle of a field. I told him I wanted it and he asked why, I told him about how the picture grabbed me. Pat Metheny Bob Moses Jaco Pastorius. Bright Size Life ECM For life…..
You're not so old. Pat's my age met him in Spink SD at the home of my band mate Susan Osborn who eventually recorded with Paul Winter Consort. However what a great music experience you had as a kid... long live live music communing with musicians and the mysterious benevelent entity known to us as Music..@blackchewy8435
How is it possible I listen to this already for 5 years and it is every time a new music? These guys made it together, great artists all. Not to talk about Melhdau and Brian Blade!! Muthspiel is a wonder artist, can't say much more. Grenadier makes me cry. This ECM record is one of the best ever (and they made so many very Greats). Love the video here. Father and sun is in my heart forever.
Ambrose Akinmusire. Nigerian-American. Won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute Competition for trumpet a few years ago. Has albums out on the Blue Note Records label
Yet another great artist(s) and another reason I LOVE ECM. Purchasing an ECM recording is like hitting the broad side of a barn; you just can't miss when you pick up a recording from one of their artists.
Wolfgang Muthspiel: guitar Ambrose Akinmusire: trumpet Brad Mehldau: piano Larry Grenadier: double-bass Brian Blade: drums Edit: What an incredible lineup of musicians! Thank you so very much for uploading this wonderful video!
Same here. Actually, i started to get back with them again lately after more than 2 decades. Hang on to your old ECM LPs. Lots of ignorant millennials are after 'em.
As a longtime listener to many other ECM artists I feel I should have heard some of Wolfgang Muthspiel’s music before now. I hadn’t but I have now and I’m hooked. Great to hear Brad Mehldau and Larry Grenadier in a different context and Ambrose Akinmusire is a revelation too. Brian Blade is a sensitive drummer behind it all.
Got the CD after watching this video, I have to say that this performance is much better than the album version of this song. Wish they upload more from this night. Rest of the album is really elegant
Inigualable quinteto.
Larry Grenadier is a long time collaborator of Brad Mehldau's and is part of his main Trio that's why he's so tight and a brilliant bassist All in all these guys make a terrific quintet- a great team and fantastic live -see them ! Ecxellent jazz !!! 5star
this guy is so brilliant, all of them... but wolgang is the most exciting and wonderful guitarist who i'm loving now, especially in conjunction with the brilliant Brian Blade
I really hope they release a live cut of this performance on CD as this magifiicent quintet sound really tight and the playing from all the musicians is top notch.
This is the music we need.
Outstanding musicianship and creative expressions. Have loved ECM now for 44 years. It is in a class all by itself.
Absolutely extraordinary. I have no idea how they continue to do it. But after more than 40 years of listening, anything with ECM on it means simply bliss.

Ambrose's sound is otherworldly.

The bass player is unbelievable! Such tasteful, classy lines. Grade AA musicians right here!
Omer Sela is Larry Grenadier, great bassiste
You will appreciate Eddie Gomez in "Batik" (Ralph Towner, E. Gomez, Jack DeJohnette).
@@franciscosandoval5916 Merci
Love his intensity!!! the song keeps pushing forward......perfect for exercise!! the guitar phrasing is unreal!!!
Brian Blade's joy never ends.
musical conversations between these stars define affinity
Wow....never heard of this trumpet player before....what a sublime connectedness
You should check out Ambrose's "Prelude...to Cora"!

So happy ECM is still turning out stuff like this! I put them on hold for years. Mutual "Welcome back" here!
Same here. Actually, i started to get back with them again lately after more than 2 decades. Hang on to your old ECM LPs. Lots of ignorant millennials are after 'em.
Arrogant.

Akinmusire's performance in this particular song is uncanny in my opinion.
Probably the best we can ever hear of jazz imaginations... this is completely mad. Crazy beauty. Amazing they can play this together...

Moderno e Bravissimo.
Manfred E doesn’t miss.... great stuff ....
I’ve been a fan of ECM since70’s!!!!

Larry Grenadier: double-bass!!!! Athens! Wow the trumpet! La bande c'est très magnifique! Thanks for uploading!
That bass at the beginning gets me every time
Great!
The guitar has such a beautiful tone.
For moments sounds as if Abercrombie were playing Metheny's guitar.
I was there on that evening at Treibhaus! Such a great concert! Looking forward to listening to the CD
oh really? I was there too haha
How do I not know this fabulous trumpet tone?
So smooth and tasteful, but also undeniably jazzy.
Love it.
Anyone who says ECM jazz is boring doesn't know what they're talking about.
I got goose bubbles...appreciate guys.....Especially Herr Wolfgang !

Gracias ECM !! Y me sumo a los aplausos.
Great musicians and great Groove.
Uber good listening between the players. They totally play off each other and Blade is one of the more musically sensitive drummers playing today.
Dude, you couldn't have said it any better. Brian Blade is the man! He makes everything better!

Un disco straordinario.
frank zappa´s famous: "jazz is not dead, it just smells funny" has become completely obsolete! this has such a fresh fragrance - halleluja!!!
@jim hutchison are you adressing me?
The bass!!!
I almost drowned in the bathtub.
