I love how it's shorter than the real pause. I might be wrong, maybe it's just the animation deceiving me, but it feels much more like a forgotten line than an awkward pause
It's the animation having him jump between frantic actions, your sympathetic brain then allows for more time for the person frantically searching rather than them freezing in place to think and remember for that same amount of time. Action fills the time. Inaction makes it seem longer.

It's painfully obvious that Chris Pratt has never played a Mario game in his life. Absolutely the most unfitting choice to play such an iconic video game character.
Chris Pratt: *"It's always been my dream to be Mario! I spent my childhood playing Mario on the arcade at my laundromat as a kid! I love Nintendo! So excited for this!"* What I assume based on his alien Zukerburg-esque speech patterns during the Direct: *"I've never touched a video game in my life, I don't even know what the fuck a Nintendo is. I just woke up, ate a cocaine breakfast and recorded this in one take."*
I swear, when Pratt tried to say his part in the direct, it sounds like he’s trying so hard not to swear, because he gotta remember that he’s being live recorded on Nintendo’s YT channel, and at the Nintendo New York building XD
My only hope is that in the original arcade game you mainly fought crabs after the first few levels, but these crabs are in truth called side-steppers and he knew they weren't called crabs but forgot their real name so he tried to switch his brain into saying Koopas. Also Koopas in Mario Bros. didn't walk on two legs, nor was there anything saying they were troopers so the lack of him saying troopa may be in respect to the koopas that crawled on all fours. Or more likely he was at gunpoint reading the script...
I do like to believe they're Koopa Troopas though, since the pipes they come out of presumably lead to the Mushroom Kingdom, and most Koopas seem to worship Bowser as their leader, but obviously Chris Pratt wanted to play this safe.
He sounds just so dishonest. Like, you were really dreaming for years to VA Mario? In a hypothetical Mario film? After the failure of so many video game adaptations and the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie in particular? Dude, it's ok to say "I never thought this day would come, but when I was asked if I wanted to VA Mario, I was excited that I could give a voice to our beloved red Italian plumber" or smth like that. His speech also feels empty, like... yeah, we too spent hours... "stomping Koopas" (dude does not seem to know there are party games, racing games or RPGs in the Mario series).
And really, the original Mario Bros? not the more popular Super Mario Bros? At least Jack Black wasn't like "Yeah I'm so excited to be playing the Koopa King himself Bowser (original appearance Super Mario Bros) inspired by King Gruesome from Alakazam the Great, it was really an honor to play Bowser aka King Koopa Mario's 2nd archenemy right after of course DK... aka Donkey Kong." XD Also I wouldn't even be surprised if Chris Pratt didn't know Mario was a plumber before voicing in this movie...
You mean the arcade game of Mario where theres enemies coming from sides and you need to hit them from below? I'm pretty sure he meant Mario Bros 1 where you can stomp on koopas.
I don't know why they bothered having him try and lie about being a Mario fan; he literally could have not said anything like this and just been happy to be a part of such a famous IP.
