Man, I've had a stupidly wide grin on my face watching through this, it was an honour to be able to record the footage for this. I've actually always found Reborn to be the most fun to play, just because I never play mobile anymore and the older games are much more time consuming and tricky to master, this is much more my style - casual, fun and immersive (until that trike starts spinning). I know it's flawed, and it's ridiculously easy, but I feel like ti doesn't get enough credit for how fun it actually is to play. It's so easy to just load it up, hop in and go for a few hunts, and I'm so glad to finally hear your full thoughts. Also, for what it's worth, I quite enjoy the longer videos - as long as they're balanced out with shorter ones. As always, your videos are fantastic and expertly done, and if you ever need more Reborn footage, you know where to find me. P.S. I'm definitely going to bring back my full playthrough on my channel when I get a break from school, and it can be... _reborn_
Much thanks again, my friend! I'm very lucky and blessed to have great people like you hanging out on the channel, your help and support really means a lot! I definitely look forward to your continued Reborn playthrough and expect many more puns to come from it!
I haven’t played HD/Reborn/ the newest one, but the trailer gave me one thing to worry about just from what it showed me, and a clip used here reminded me of that unease. The Trophy rooms in dinosaur hunting games were always important to me. In fact, they’re the motivation for me to keep hunting, personally. The rooms in Carnivores were rather simplistic, but even that sort of brutal style fit the DinoHunt theme, and it really let you focus on getting a good look at those models. The absolute best part of Primal Prey was the aesthetic and layout of its trophy room; it was so amazing that the goal of filling it was literally the only thing that kept me playing that messy game. Both served as a place where you could display the physical, tangible fruits of your effort, and have something to show for it, a chronicle of your journey and something to reflect on. So when I saw the trailer recently for HD/Reborn/the other one, I was worried when I didn’t see physical dinosaurs previewed in the short snippet of the trophy room; just holograms. Without doing any digging, my gut reaction was wondering what the point of hunting trophies was if you just had holograms of the animals you were hunting anyway. It really rubbed me wrong. Thankfully before I typed this out, I did a quick google search and saw images of the in-the-flesh taxidermy dinosaur trophies in-game-and that the holograms seemed to be not the actual trophies, but placeholders-and immediately felt relief. The one thing I can give the newer games is that it reminded me to be grateful of a feature I could have very easily taken for granted.
Sometimes, the best way to admit how much you love a game, ya gotta break it down and recognize it's faults, what you don't like about it, etc., only then can you come to appreciate any semblance of quality in your beloved game.
For some reason I actually sorta like the hunter primal t rex, it honestly looks more Alien to me then the original Carnivores one, it honestly seems to me that an Alien named Steve cloned a T rex from earth then went to his newly bought planet similar to Earth but during the Cloning process it didn't come out right but he couldn't fix it so just left it like it, if it was made like that then I like it
Just discovered your channel and gotta say your content is really entertaining and enthralling. I am not a big fan of Carnivores or dinosaurus but I did play Carn 1 when I was like 9 or 10. Just remember the game exists and wanted to check some footage and holly hell your content is of such high quality. Your passion for the game is really infectious and the way you explain and breakdown these games are amazing. I am staying and watching just because the way you produce these videos and content is really cool. Who knows maybe you will even infect me with your passion and start playing Carn again. Keep it up!
Although I like Reborn and still play it from time to time, it suffers from the worst problem any game can have: potential. It has the potential to be the hunting game of the decade, but thats all they have: potential. Its not a bad game (subjectively), it just could've been so much more.
I actually really like the Hunter Primal Dino designs, but I hate most of the ark designs. But I still agree that these reboots had the best designs of the three. It’s just a shame that they weren’t burian inspired or anything
Checked out the update roadmap for the Kickstarter. Really hit me when I scrolled down to see the devs all excited and happy about the production of the game and how they’ll be churning out more updates for us, until the second to last final update saying they’re disappointed the Kickstarter will fail.
Great review. I still play Carnivores Dinosaur Hunter HD on my PS3 quite regularly. I wish it was playable on the PS4. I enjoy the game despite it's limitations. I was disappointed that you can't swim in this game, so you can't visit the islands visible from the coastline. Also if you climb on rocks, most of the dinosaurs can't get you. But the game can be quite scary at times and is atmospheric. I love the sound of the volcano which you can see on an island out to sea on the great forest level.
To be honest, the Utahraptor in ARK kind of breaks ARK style as it doesn't really blend well with any of the other creatures. It maybe would if it had a little bit more feathers on it (or if it lacked them completely, but I think ARK's style goes more towards that extrange almost fully feathered aspect). I think the Troodon, the mammoth, the stego or one of their pterosaurs are better examples of ARK's strange over the top genetically modified creatures that are almost monsters. It is a unique style which I like, however some creatures in ARK (particularly old ones that hadn't been redesing, with the Utahraptor being one of the exceptions) do stand out of the general style the game has, such as the way too realistic Carnotaurus or the odd looking Utahraptor.
Ditidos I have to disagree the Utah kinda points to it being genetically modified, the creature was made to be more ferocious than the real animals but because it still is a raptor it keeps the feathers.
@@brandonshmandon1799 I may have explained myself wrong. I wasn't trying to say that the Utahs don't look genetically modified, what I tried to say is that it looks like it has a very diferent style comparing it to other ARK's creatures and overall aesthetic ARK tries to have. Even the feathers it has are a little bit weird (just comparing them to those of the phoenix or the troodon which are better examples of ARK's style on feathered creatures). They could have also gone for the featherless look like they did with the compys.
Ditidos Even then compys still have feathers on their heads, I don’t see how they aren’t in the Ark style. Besides the design is still interesting looking and at least did something different as most depictions of raptors in entertainment. (At least when there not going for scientific accuracy) Kinda like how Carnivores adapted Velociraptors to the Burian style of dinosaurs.
For me , everything in ark fits the 'arkt-style' (get it?). The utah raptor fits in perfectly with the rest of the dinos, and there isn't any arkt-style clash. That maybe due to me not looking for it but even then thinking about my time playing the game, there isn't any moment where I catch anything out of place. So I don't know what you're talking about.
I can’t believe they just left the games to die! If I were in charge of Carnivores and had a crew of game developers, Carnivores would be a brilliant game series! Ugh they literally put more effort in the marketing than the actual game!
I think if a sequel to the Carnivores game is made the devs should bring the graphics down to somewhere around the original and give the mechanics and graphics that PS1 style but with the addition of incredible frame rate and a monster render distance. The sounds and ambience could be completely overhauled with a variety of ginormous hunting maps with different themes. A mix of ambience and animation could be put together to make it so the large vines rustle back and fourth when you walk through them as you watch the palm trees slightly move back and fourth in the wind while shader type lighting additionally gets added. New modes like Co-op could be introduced into the game allowing you to play with your friends and hunt the most dangerous species.
you know if the steam release of carnivores ever comes out I would love to to see it with the music and graphics of hd and reborn but with Easter eggs and dinosaur designs of the originals with 1960's style herbivores and 90's style carnivores of course that wishful thinking
hey Saurian, how you doin? Hope everything's good and best (late) wishes for a great 2024! Sorry in advance for the long comment, but yesterday I re-played HD on my ps3 for the first time in a while and I had a blast: I realized there are actually a couple of things that it does better than the last release of Dinosaur Hunt, such as hunting by sound. It's like night and day, dinosaurs were so much louder (even their footsteps) and if you selected "decoy" without the radar you would see the general direction from which cries came from. Also, the one thing I absolutely can't stand from DH is the fade out when dinos get too close, even in places where you're technically unreachable. Running for safety or managing to find a safe spot and setting traps for ceratos and t-rexes was SO much fun, it's like a whole game mechanic that's just been lost.
The Juraccurate style is supposed to be there in ARK. They (the dinos) are genetically modified versions of their previous selves. If you look at the game's "dossiers" you will see that they are real life genuses but the species never actually existed in real life.
Yep. That's how you get "parasaurs" with beards, "rexes" and half feathered "raptors". They aren't just nicknames! That being said, I understand the confusion. On a surface level, there's not that much to drive home the difference. Folks just jumping in on their friend's server to play around aren't going to be taught that unless said friend tells them, or they like looking for lore enough to learn on their own. To the casual player, they really do look like cheap knockoffs.
@@katrinafryar383 But in this case Saurian's dislike to ARK comes from his own ignorance. Don't get me wrong this is one of my favourite UA-camr's, but he has a strong bias towards ARK when he really hasn't played the game before.
@@BackToBackJames True, but for some first impressions are a lot, and if he was told he was jumping into a dinosaur survival game, his first impression was probably shit. Can't blame him for that too much. That being said, I think he ought to give it another shot, this time with the understanding that Ark dinos are their own creature with only vague similarities to Earth dinosaurs. Then, if he still hates it, fair enough.
I think it depended on the dinosaur. Some of them (Stego, Cerato, Para) had one base call with a couple of pitch shifts so technically three, but some (like the Trike) only had one.
theHunter Primal goes for a scientifically accurate approach and Ark goes for more of a pop culture approach, also ironically all three of those games promised so much and only really ark delivered on expanding but is still lacking
Great video man.👍🏼🦖🦕 I still play Carnivores 1998 and Carnivores 2 1999 they will always be my favorites two hunting games. The Ceratosaurs still scares the crap out of me. Lol. I haven’t play the new games and i rather not.
Tbh. It could have easily been good. Arguably, it was always decent. But not as a Carnivores game. I’m sure if this game had the backing it deserved from the devs, it could have truly been the next gen Carnivores game
I was never able to play any of Dinosaur Hunter HD/Reborn because lack of a good PC and no Playstation 3 but since the moment that I saw a gameplay video back in the day I told my self "this is not the Carnivores that I know and love". And please, we need a new gameplay of Primal Prey full of Troodons.
Great review and video as always. I like the HD and reborn, even though I have only played reborn cause I never had a ps3. I like the older carnivores games and this one too. I have actually started playing dinosaur hunter and I find that one really fun. And I only played thehunter primal a few times and I wish I had never bought the game, since the devs stopped supporting the game after a year or 2 and the dinos look nothing like what carnivores had and I know both carnivores and primal take place on alien planets.
Also saurian target, imagine if action forms created a new carnivores game secretly and it was carnivores reborn but in the c2 engine with the Canon styled dinosaurs
I was about to un sub due to you ranting on how paleo accurate stuff is stupid but i remembered : THESE ARNT DINOSAURS THEYRE A L I E N S and i nearly started laughing at myself for forgetting that.
I think Mutated dinosaurs should have small yet noticeable differences I'm picturing this from the cetatosaurus, loose skin, small cancerous tumours all over the body, especially the eyes, its more twitchy and alert, the body is more hunched and the legs shudder and stagger when it steps with low groans each time it stepped, like an animal in pain, that doesn't want to live, if you get it to run far enough it'll trip and fall over before righting itself, and are extremely rare and very aggressive
I think reborn is better because of the mutant dinos that were a interesting idea that could have done better because it's a good concept if done right.
I personally never played HD as I did not have a playstation 3 Circa 2013, and I never played any of the sequels to the original carnivores as at the time i never knew they existed but i dropped hundreds if not thousands of hours into the original carnivores. I enjoy Reborn, I actually didn't discover it until mid 2017 ish but when I saw it a glimmer appeared in my eye because I was dumbfounded." Carnivores? What? Wait? Seriously!?" *buys instantly* I invested a large chunk of time into it. I agree on pretty much everything you've said here, although I play with music turned off because I find it to be more of a distraction than anything else. And on the note of the length of the video, I didn't even realize how long it was until you mentioned it, so I don't think you have anything to worry about!
Me personally, I think the dinosaurs didn’t look alien enough. The Dinosaurs aren’t actually dinosaurs, they’re aliens, but they just look like dinosaurs. The Dino’s in the OG games looked alien. They had small, almost human like teeth, strange roars, and inaccurate sizes. They felt alien. They felt wrong. And that’s what this reboot needs.
Since you mentioned I can not stress enough how much you'd like the Hunter call of the wild if you'd play it. If that game ever does dinosaurs I don't know if Carnivores can ever have a high end hunting game on PC. Itd be completely outclassed
I really think I will give theHunter a go sometime, seems like I'd really enjoy it. Although, I'm pretty sure theHunter: Primal *was* their go at dinosaurs...
@@SaurianTarget It was and it wasn't. Thehunter: Primal was more of a survival game and experimental at best for them. Then it basically got abandoned. Thehunter: Call of the Wild is a true hunting game. Once you play it, you'll understand but the quality difference between the two is insane. The amount of animals, the more realistic settings, and the sheer amount of support it gets from the developers are all what I wish Carnivores would get. Honestly, if you want PM me on Patreon and I'll get you a copy of it on steam since the summer sale makes the price so low. The only concern I would have is Thehunter: CotW is pretty hard on a computer.
It sounds like an incredible experience. Honestly, I'd love to play it at some point, but if it is pretty hard on PCs like you said, I can almost guarantee it would be a nightmare for my old one to run, so I may have to wait until I can afford a more high-end rig.
@@SaurianTarget Maybe skybox isn't the correct term, but I've played the game recently and you can see a gigantic satellite on the night skies, much bigger than our moon.
Yeah that’s what I was talking about lol You can’t play this game at night, but the big Saturn-esque planet in the sky is a good visual indicator that you’re on an alien planet
If they would have put more work into it just a bit more love it could have been a great game but even now it does have some good things like the Dino's model
If you can snag it on sale, I think it's worth trying out. It's really short though, and how much you enjoy this type of game will determine its replayability factor.
Well firstly, there aren't that many great unique animations in the Carnivores games to begin with. And secondly, I made that video three years ago, my opinion on it might've changed.
I wish the game was as in depth as the old games, but I also don't hate this new format. I would love to see more work on the game, its a shame they stopped working on it =[

theHunter Primal goes for a scientifically accurate approach and Ark goes for more of a pop culture approach, also ironically all three of those games promised so much and only really ark delivered on expanding but is still lacking
Great video man.👍🏼🦖🦕 I still play Carnivores 1998 and Carnivores 2 1999 they will always be my favorites two hunting games. The Ceratosaurs still scares the crap out of me. Lol. I haven’t play the new games and i rather not.

Well here you go
Primal Prey will return soon! Troodons always know how to wreck a party, so I'm sure we'll see them again.
This video shot me in the heart
I clapped! I clapped when I saw Mike Stoklasa!
I can't understand why reborn didn't add velociraptor or even allosaur or spinosaur basically the classic carnivores
If I had to guess, I'd say a lack of time and money. :/
Did you get the Retro Box set after the game came out or was that another corner that was cut
I did get the retro box set
@@SaurianTarget nice good thing that didn't get cut
The intro is so funny to me.
Because it's the Spongebob episode with the exploding pie.
Hey saurian can you add the Carnivores Triassic theme to your playlist?
Perhaps! The Triassic menu is getting a revamp in a new beta, so I might wait until then.
(Saurian’s basically a carnivores boomer)
Pretty much.
Reboot👏👏review👏👏
and lets hope the console re-release fix's these issues...
Well, there it is
Also saurian target, imagine if action forms created a new carnivores game secretly and it was carnivores reborn but in the c2 engine with the Canon styled dinosaurs
I heard that originally a shotgun and a velociraptor were going to be add to the game but they didn’t have enough money
Trophy theme is best girl
20:23 it could be called mount raven
First
Edit: what a coincidence, I just finished watching your reviews of the original 3 games and then you post this.
What excellent timing!
I think reborn is better because of the mutant dinos that were a interesting idea that could have done better because it's a good concept if done right.
Loved that intro
I'm curious... assumin' ya find the time and motivation (I won't mind the the wait), what mod will ya showcase next?
Carnivores 2+ is the next mod showcase we'll cover here!
@@SaurianTarget Nice! Maybe showcase Carnivores Genesis next? I'm curious to know what inspired ya make the concept and then the actual mod.
8:17 Dead Space devil horns reference?
I still hope you review TheHunter: Primal someday. But I was very happy to see this pop up in my feed. :)
I'd like to someday as well. I'll need a new computer for it though!
23:57 Preach!
I really wish carnivores reborn was a fantastic game the carnivores community wanted it to be.
Me too, my friend. Me too...
5:53 All might?
Oh boi 1 pm
20:13 this can be mount ravan
Lets hope the new update finally fixes these issues :)

Is there a way to play the original Carnivores games on Windows 10?
Yes, this video should help: ua-cam.com/video/PkjDxWBbj4I/v-deo.html
make a carnivores 2 challenge where you have to hunt every carnivore and 1 moschops
43:59 so you’re the same age as my brother
Me personally, I think the dinosaurs didn’t look alien enough. The Dinosaurs aren’t actually dinosaurs, they’re aliens, but they just look like dinosaurs. The Dino’s in the OG games looked alien. They had small, almost human like teeth, strange roars, and inaccurate sizes. They felt alien. They felt wrong. And that’s what this reboot needs.
My PS3 died 2 years ago and I never played hd
Late, but while this game is a bad game in the Carnivores series, I think it's still a fairly fun game. I enjoyed my time with it
That's awesome, I'm glad you had fun with it!
I killed a Pteranodon with a broken PS3 controller, with a crossbow, at 500 meters. I shit my fucking pants.
What about the steam workshop content?
There is no Steam workshop content for this one
@@SaurianTarget damn they had one job. Too bad there is no res.txt
35:32 Besides the first message you receive telling you have been sent to an alien planet and the night skybox showing a clearly alien sky -__-
Night skybox? What kind of game are you playing? 😂
@@SaurianTarget I was talking about theHunter: Primal, maybe I should had been more specific since the start.
WHAT? You have to make a video on the "marine creatures" and underwater hunting!
If they would have put more work into it just a bit more love it could have been a great game but even now it does have some good things like the Dino's model
And then the pie exploded in my stomach
"It'll go right to your thighs!
And then you blow up."
When is the far North showcase coming?
When Far North is complete.
Since we could mod Jurassic World: Evolution, it should be possible to decrypt the files of Reborn.
bro why mine is lag?
Is it worth buying
If you can snag it on sale, I think it's worth trying out. It's really short though, and how much you enjoy this type of game will determine its replayability factor.
Saurian please where you will make a mod showcase.
YOUR BREATHTAKING
I thought you liked the triceratops death animation.
It's okay, but not that great. It's basically the least bad of the animations.
Saurian Target then why did you put it at 4 on your death animations list?
Well firstly, there aren't that many great unique animations in the Carnivores games to begin with. And secondly, I made that video three years ago, my opinion on it might've changed.
Saurian Target alright then.
You should do a carnivores meme collection
Sometimes I make carnivores memes so uhhhhhhhh look them up
I wish the game was as in depth as the old games, but I also don't hate this new format. I would love to see more work on the game, its a shame they stopped working on it =[
Have you by chance heard of Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt? It’s the latest re-release of this version of the game that is still being worked on!
@@SaurianTarget that is good info! =] I just finished up the achievements for the last one [T-rex trophy room and filled trophy room in one go].
I'm in Houston
Can they just make a Carnivores trilogy game were all original Carnivores games are in sorry for my bad English
Yeah its not the best carnivore game, but its a good relax hunting game.
It is pretty chill. I like to hop into observer mode sometimes and just watch things live.
@@SaurianTarget theres an observer mode? Where, I cant find it!
When you're in the weapon selection screen, scroll all the way to the left (before the rifle) and you'll see Observer Mode.
@@SaurianTarget thanks!
But Saturn may have likely ruled in the sky at that time...
For some reason on my 64 GB laptop carnivores reborn ran better in fulscreen mode
( ;-;)
