  • For the high note junkies out there! Just thought I’d record some crazy octave-testing. This is totally a work in progress, and yes, some of these crazy notes are like rolling dice… some of them worked, others didn’t…I’m trying to get better!!!!
Hopefully, after a few more gigs, I can get a couple decent recording mics and software, so I can make some clips without the HORRIBLE onboard mic of my old Iphone! Here’s hoping!! 🤞
Horn: Prototype 1990’s Yamaha 6345 Rose Brass Bell, Rose Brass Leadpipe.
Mouthpiece Top: Ken Titmus Custom Mouthpiece “BF” (Bryan Foote) “T1B” (Jet Tone T1B style top)
Backbore: Ken Titmus Custom Mouthpiece “RT 1” (Reverse Taper 1)

This is a custom Ken Titmus Custom Mouthpiece, .670ish, shallow cup, Based on a Jettone T1B. It is a wide diameter shallow cup. Ken Titmus RT 1 Backbore. (Reverse Taper).
My Prototype double cup is actually easier to play doubles and triples than this piece. I didn’t realize this mouthpiece was in my horn, that’s why I paused for a moment when I was looking at the mouthpiece in my horn, I actually didn’t have the right mouthpiece in my horn, and just decided “Well, I think I can do it on this setup.”- even though I never have attempted most of these notes on this horn or mouthpiece setup.
My Double Cup with my Nova LA actually works better for these notes, I’m much more accurate with pitch and resonance in the double and triple register with that setup.

@@jppirr1031My Double Cup is about .660-ish. I find I play and sound best on shallow-tight stuff that’s between .660-.670, and deeper stuff that’s between .650-.660.
Occasionally for special effect, I’ll use something gigantic and super open and deep (Like an Alto Horn mouthpiece or Mellophone piece), but I avoid the upper register with stuff like that.
