@@Me_Me_Me_Tee_Hee The rioting and looting gets complicated real fast. Complicated? How? It's clearly and objectively a bad thing!
1) Rioting and looting are symptoms of a problem, and the best way to get rid of symptoms is to fix the problem (and definitely not, idk, intentionally aggravating it, but I'm getting ahead of myself)
2) There are numerous documented cases of police and/or white supremacists starting or provoking violence, rioting, and looting (kinda weird to reprimand one side of a standoff for something that the other side is initiating or doing too). Is it wrong to respond violently to violence?
3) A LOT of issues have been caused by problematic "allies". There have been repeated instances of supporters of the Caucasian persuasion who, getting too amped and not having enough enough sense of how their actions affect others / the movement overall, have pushed an otherwise peaceful protest into the chaotic territory. Not related, more of a sidebar, but there are plenty of people who have been taking advantage of the chaos to score for themselves. It's not limited to the protesters or any particular race.
4) Historical context (and for a lot of people, this would be number 1).
At the end of the day, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I really feel like WE's intro was perfect because they were addressing the root problem and not undermining its importance by delving into the distracting issues of how humans react to being demeaned, enraged, and desperate. They're speaking into action how they plan on being supportive, and by modeling, setting a great example to their followers.
Oops. Didn't mean to essay at you. I just feel very strongly that when people denounce protesters' negative responses, they're not focusing on the right thing.
Honestly, I'm so happy that so many of these big, influential people are using their platforms to educate and inspire people. Celebrities have a pretty strong grip over the general audience and quite a few of them are using it for good now. Even Steven with all his podcasts and social work for the asian-american community. The smallest of steps can have the biggest of impact

True, but most asian culture/parenting isn’t of the super physical abusive sort, but more of not being as accepting, being stricter, always comparing kids, a lot of you could’ve done better or look who did better than you. Stereotypically asian parents are tough love parents and want only the best for and love their child but can’t express it so instead their kid hears mostly negative things. Parents of other races can definitely be harmful/abusive/etc too, but stereotypes, more often than not, are based of some truth. Just as a side note, for me personally, it’s another asian joke/thing my asian friends and I can make and understand.

I actually wouldn't mind if they did if it increased the views and thus the donation amount. I've had playlists going on my laptop for 2 days now that are comprised of videos whose proceeds will be donated to the cause (you can search 'BLM ads playlist" if anyone would like to do the same).
geegeezlouis86 yeah, I see that viewpoint too, more views = more money, but it’s just that I see a fair amount of people doing it obviously for publicity and views, especially those who donate a portion of the money rather than all of it - I get that you have to eat, but it seems like you’re probably making more money than usual even when you donate part of it. I guess you can’t really win either way though :/

I got an ad that was a minute of people opening doors with their feet set to upbeat music, so luckily there was no temptation to skip it at all
I have been watching their ads ever since they started. It's just a small help for their company.
I have UA-cam Premium. Sometimes I feel guilty because I don’t think that helps donate at all. All I know is I signed up for a trial, ended up in the hospital for nearly 2 months 2 years ago - nearly died at 28 - and started listening to Unsolved to help me sleep. And once I got home it became a routine. So almost every single night - even on vacations - I listen to Unsolved to go to sleep. It’s like roughly $13/month, and I tell my parents that I’m willing to stop it, but I guess since they know I use it to help me sleep (I have insomnia and PTSD, so I HAVE to take meds to help sleep and everything), and it let’s me download videos I can watch completely offline. So they let me keep it - it just bothers me because I don’t know if without ads my watching helps money wise. That’s why on channels I adore I tend to donate just in case. But I just ended up in hospital again for emergency surgery - so that won’t be cheap 😑. Stupid American healthcare system. Still might donate a few bucks though.
But man, if anyone knows if the Premium STILL pays the channel like if I HAD to watch ads (it is wonderful to not have to I will admit), I would be grateful to learn so I know how to proceed in the future. Sorry if this is long - hospital time leaves you lonely 🤣

yeah, you probably had good intentions but that phrase has been used pretty uniformly to derail conversations about police brutality and the atrocities committed against black people, mostly by white supremacists/alt right asswipes
Yeah, "All Lives Matter" has been repeatedly used to brush over the issues that BLM advocates for by pushing unity instead of problem solving. It doesn't literally mean all lives matter due to context.
