Eurythmics used to piss off conservatives mightily back in the day. Anything that angers conservatives is probably good, but this would have been good anyway.
It's a song about betrayal. When Annie was 14 a girl offered to be her "best friend" but that only lasted til her real best friend split with her bf and became available again. The message is universal and reminds to value proper friendship and reject those who cower behind falsehood.
1986... I was 22 and had just finished working in a nightclub when this some came out... Eurythmics are a great band... It is amazing walking into a shopping centre today and hearing the songs from that era still be played regularly.... Shows just how talented the musicians from the 1970s and 1980s were.
What an ensemble of legendary people all in one video. Jimmy Z rocking it like a king, Annie with a voice from the heavens... When will there ever be a group like this again? Massive respect.
You've also had the Proclaimers and the Bay City Rolelrs. Wasn't a fan of the Rollers myself, but they were hugely popular when I was in school. You couldn't have anything in tartan without everyone thinking it had something to do with them
@@IanM-id8or the rollers played in my hometown (Bo'ness) many years ago, small town that had a popular venue where some big names played, i remember my mum saying people were passing out in the queue when they saw them up close lol
This is exceptionally well composed and expertly arranged. Every solo, each riff, the verse, bridge, chorus, lead vocal, backing vocal and the spoken word intro are all utterly unforgettable. It’s an absolutely timeless slice of pop music.
I feel like there was, in general, a great sense of imagination when it came round to writing music back in the 80s than there is today. I could be wrong of course, but that's the impression I tend to get.
Just more drugs around, and cheaper. There are bands writing good music both lyrically & melodically nowadays but they’re harder to find. The 1975 are doing a great job.
I love how she connects with the camera. Subtle looks, moves…very expressive. If there was not sound you still understand the message! 😆 Genius. Sassy bitch and I love her. And Dave! He’s so much fun to watch. Watching this again after 30 years had me smiling.
Still loving this song almost 35 years after it was released. Annie Lennox vocals on this are brilliant. One of the greatest British female vocalists for me.
This is an absolute timeless classic. Annie Lennox voice is beautiful on this track. One of my faves by them. Was too young to appreciate how good Eurythmics were at their peak. Glad I can hear more of their tunes on here. 80s music was so good.
Annie Lennox is a brilliant singer still to this day. She would give Adele a run for her money. Adele is a great singer too. But Annie.is a fantastic singer and song writer. Go on yerself Annie. One Scottish women to another great video from the great Annie Lennox. 👍 🏴🏴
Thank you Annie, Dave and the UK as a whole for providing this American with world class tunes from the 80s thru today! Music would not be complete without the Union Jack!
Growing up in the 80's and 90's these type of catchy songs were everywhere. They were so 'normal' we kinda took em for granted. Now we look back and realize how great and amazing that era of music was.
I defy anybody from any country on this planet to reply here and tell me i'm wrong....Nobody, but NOBODY does the "shoulder shake" with as much attitude as adorable Annie L. And those eyes.....OMG.
What’s really good about this track that’s forgotten is Blondie’s Drummer Clem Burke . Jeez as always he’s so good . Blondie were on a break as Debbie Harry was looking after Chris Stein who was ill .
Annie’s slightly husky yet passionate vocals and heartfelt lyrics in this song always pull at my heart strings. This song came out during a difficult time in my life and it’s magic helped lift me from the place I was in. Dave was as always the melodic genius. I start watch Eurythmics videos and end up having watched at least 7 or 8.
I was terrified of her as a youngster when I first seen her on tv, top of the pops probably ( clue for non uk residents where im from), Annie originally Aberdeen Scotland i think, me further south in Glasgow but that fantastic voice along with dave Stewart and his musical/production skills was well worthy of being heard all over, truly talented both of them 👏
and there's another. call me weird, but thought id do a quick parsing of youtube comments for the word 'underrated'. look almost ANYTHING and this meaningless word will appear...it's really odd
Although the first single from Revenge, "When Tomorrow Comes", had barely reached the UK Top 30, "Thorn in My Side" became Eurythmics' ninth Top 10 single, reaching number 5 in the British charts. To date, it is their last appearance in the UK Top 10. In the United States, the track stalled at number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was a Top 2 hit in Ireland, and reached the Top 10 in New Zealand (#7) and Sweden (#6).

Here we are thinking she's singing about a man.
It's about her first marriage to a scientologist
When I was 14 I was befriended by a scientologist. They came and took him away. Not sure what happened to him after that.

So many Eurythmics songs explore toxic relationships and this one's about how to move on from one. Thanks to Annie for the advice and attitude! 💪🏻🎵💃🎤

A mention for the utterly superb Clem Burke on drums for this one. A true pioneer of his craft.
Blondie drummer. He did research into the physical effects of drumming and concluded it's a workout.
