There is doubt because it was 1-1 on aggregate. France could have won on penalties had this goal not stood.
I understand that its hard for the ref but when there is CLEAR VIDEO EVIDENCE that Henry had at least 1 hand ball, anyone with common sense should have reversed it! I knew someone who was Irish at the time and he was absolutely mad about this and rightly so.
At least if it happened now VAR would disallow it.

I was at this match in the thick of the Irish supporters. We didn’t see how blatant the handball was until we got back to hotel. I remember when we scored there was mayhem. There was beer and mobile phones flying everywhere. In typical Irish fashion, we drank ourselves into oblivion with a load of Algerian lads who were literally jumping up and down on cars in celebration of beating Egypt. What a night! 🤣🤣

13 years later.. I can look back on this game as the last game I wanted to watch live. 10 years after a CF final that was so epic, soccer just lost my interest. Squllaci was offside firstly who was then involved in play, then Henry's handball, then Gallas scores who was also offside.
This play really got under my skin since, not only did it show Thierry Henry cheating blatantly, but also celebrating a goal that should not have counted. Well, I thought this was beneath him, but obviously he didn't. Karma caught up with the cheaters, though, and they were humiliated at the 2002 World Cup.
If only VAR was available before 2009, it'll be a different story.

It's football, what do you expect? Cheats everywhere.. If the referee doesn't see it, it's fair in football. If you get a small pat on the back while in penalty area, you dive and there's a penalty, "good job mate you get a million dollar raise!"(says the manager). In a similar situation if you actually get pushed and lose you balance and keep running for the ball it's no foul at all most of the time and that's complete bullshit too but don't see anyone complaining about that? As I said he didn't cheat, if that's the case then everyone except maybe Messi, Salah and a few others are cheating every game.
