These the shows we need again so people can stop being color blind or too privileged to see truth. I can honestly say it was refreshing to see them go back and forward with each other without laying a finger. Words are powerful!

The best writing and acting ever! It's tragic that Norman Lear couldn't write these shows today without being called horrible names. We used to have common sense and a sense of humor.
Funny, the first Jefferson we saw on All In The Family was Henry and the first appearance of James Evans, he is called Henry. Normal Lear must have like that name.
Interestingly, there was no mention of Maude, nor the Evans family ever having lived in New York, when Good Times came on the air. And Henry's name was changed to James. So was Good Times technically a spinoff?
Yes, there was probably no mention of Maude because they made Florida a housewife and chose Chicago because their housing projects in the 70's were much rougher and they wanted to put an emphasis on the Evans family being poor.
what happened was Eric Monte wrote a script to a pilot called "The Black Family" and showed it Norman Lear and he liked it,and thought it would the perfect fit Eshter Rolle.and sense Florida was so popular the changed her backstory to fit "The Black Family" aka "Good Times"
Yeah, I've often thought about that. How did they explain that? Was there an episode when Florida says she's moving to Chicago with her husband "Henry" ?
That was awesome. I don't see this on TV anymore. Human comedy with generous doses of humble pie. No one tells "The New Girl" that she has lower standards for her black students. No one confronts her prejudice or any of the others. They just get to feel good about themselves. There are a plethora of unchallenged white messiahs. I suppose these were the conversations the country was having back then. I don't think we're having these conversations anymore. Lots of conceit to go around.
My question is if. Maud ended in 79 good times started in 74. How is it a spin off and did they have to work the first episode in to the script? I don't remember.
I think norman lear should have transition ed the evans w at least mentioned there kids into the chicago area. On one episode before good times started there florida implied and henry wanted to start a new life.. the spin off transition was not like gomer pyle andy griffith..or peticote junction green acres... think it could have been a better transition. At the time people where confused. I remember the pilot episode of good times and for a few minutes i thought i was watching maude. I never hered them ever mention the kids. Is there a reason they did not call james henry? In good times.

Okay now I'm seeing James on the show okay I am completely completely confused I've never in my life seen this before I've heard of the show mod but I've never seen Florida yet James on the show I've been watching good times since 1974 and I've never seen this before how again with this work into the script and what is going on okay thanks for any feedback?
People didn't pay attention to such details at the time, so they just went along without explanation. It's not until shows get rerun for years that you start to pick things apart. Now I notice little changes to the sets of other shows that wasn't noticed the first time around.
Now I'm even more confused how do they work this into the script Florida Evans works in New York how does she get back to Chicago I mean I'm confused how she's doing two things at once or two shows at once somebody please explain what's going on here I'm very confused
Florida and Henry (James) are a spinoff from Maude. They lived and worked in New York. Henry eventually gets a job in Chicago moved their family which ended up being Good Times.

Wow I didn't realize realize how Jewish B Arthur look looked before all of the costhe cosmetic surgeries. Look at her face when she 1st opened the door to Florida.
Looks like a completely different person. Seems like most of the Jewish celebrities back then changed their last name and got cosmetic surgery to hide their ethnicity

This is Jennifer Sinclair. I LOVE Florida and Maude!!!! I wish Florida stayed on Maude!!!!!!!! This was so much fun!!!!
The Carol Burnett spoof of this episode is hilarious. And then there’s Broad. 😂
They both had so much great on film chemistry, this was a good show.
These were the times when they had the best ever TV shows growing up.
The show was never better than it was with Florida. Came close with Mrs. Norgatuck, but Florida was the best. God I wish they had her on longer

No doubt in my mind. Same characters basically. They tend to change little things from introduction episodes, and even from pilot, to first episode.
Yes, there was probably no mention of Maude because they made Florida a housewife and chose Chicago because their housing projects in the 70's were much rougher and they wanted to put an emphasis on the Evans family being poor.

Funny that Maude lived in New York and the Evan's lives in Chicago...
Yeah, I've often thought about that. How did they explain that? Was there an episode when Florida says she's moving to Chicago with her husband "Henry" ?
They didn't explain much back then. Just like there being 2 different Lionels on the Jeffersons. People where too hungry for good tv to care.

Maude: Florida married to Henry 24 years
Good Times: Florida married to James less than 24 years because they married close to J.J.'s birth
