Here's a theory: the reason the shields disappeared after Dr. M's turrets fired was because they used so much power firing the missiles that there was none left for the shields, so they needed to recharge.
I remember when I was younger, before I had a job or car or anything, and sitting down one summer weekend and playing all three games in a marathon. Just so I can soak up the story. After the third one, I was on the verge of tears because I LOVED the series. I still wish that Sucker Punch was able to make the 4th installment, Sanzaru didn't have to strand Sly in Egypt like that. Let's hope that there's somehow a Sly 5 for the PS5.

Dr. M reminds me of the Witchsmeller Pursuivant from the Black Adder.
The attacks that Dr. M.'s monster attacks Carmelita with are similar to the ones Panda King used on Sly during their fight.
I think Lt. Gronk was voiced by Clancy Brown, who also voices Mr. Krabs.
The giant pinchers that attacked Dimitri in the current look just like the ones on the arms of the fish he fought.
