They caught an eagle in a trap, wrung his neck and dropped him off with the artist. Neck all stretched out like that, it’s a damn shame. In a very odd way, I rather like the look of this in gold.
Regarding 5:54, thirty-six years after Robert Scot's 1794 depiction of a scrawny eagle, later in 1830 the Philadelphia Mint welcomed Peter Jefferson who was a bald eagle at the mint as their avian pet. During the day, Peter stalked the skies over the city and by night Peter flew back into the building through an open window and took up residence inside the facility. Peter has been preserved at the Philadelphia Mint as their mascot.
Similar images were already posted by the US Mint when the medal & coin were proposed and submitted to 2 committees for their opinions. They were originally intended to be released under the American Liberty series, but since it wasn't a modern interpretation of Liberty and is really a revival of a classic coin design, the Mint got complaints by the committees.
@@SalivateMetal: I forgot to note that the proposed design had corrections to the flaws in the coin's design. The date and stars were adjusted to balance the components better, and the wreath in the back was shrunk ever so slightly to move away from the rim. These changes were met with positive and negative remarks, but the US Mint said nothing publicly. Only when the Mint updated its page for 24YH did we know what it did: it stayed true to the original design. This now makes sense because the Mint has recently released a video stating that it plans to revive more iconic coin designs in the next 2 years. I suppose those medals and coins will not deviate from the old coin designs. As for the first YTD sales figure, the number 40,999 is very interesting. I believe the US Mint made (at least) 41K, saved 1 for its own collection, and sold the 40,999 medals identified in the report. As for the other 34K medals it's allowed to mint ... I believe the Mint already has produced them (it can't mint the 2024 in 2025) and is holding them for inclusion in a future coin/medal set for the upcoming years. As noted above, the Mint recently released a video stating that it plans to revive more vintage coin designs in the next 2 years. I can see the Mint making a multi-coin/medal set in the final year. If this is in the plans, then I wonder what happened with the 24YH with the privy mark. Did all 1793 (it kept 1, right?) get put in the 40,999 release? If so, then that nearly doubled the probability of landing a privy mark medal, and even getting a signed CoA.
I thought maybe ill skip on this but then i got 10 of those mercury gold dimes and i can try to get $5,000 for all ten in packaging if i can get someone to pay premium. I might have to buy one or some... im scared to see the price.... i have not bought gold since those dimes in i think 2018 EDIT at over 3k i will not purchase this coin
U.S. Mint premiums are just far too unrealistic these days and I do not consider any of them to be "investments" anymore. However, their basic bullion coins are still good for wealth preservation for stackers due to their easy liquidity and familiarity.
I recently got a coin that had that thinning along the edge. It did weigh in at full weight, though. I had hoped it was an error that made the coin more valuable, but no.....
Definetly a collector coin.I think they used to shoot and net specimens for museum curators to study and display back then. The artist must have been on the sauce or used a very ancient rendering for source. Thanks SAL
Nice coin. Very historical. Agree, not a very accurate image of the eagle. But...neither was the eagle on the reverse of the standing liberty quarter over 100 years later.
Will grab a couple when released. Have a few of the 2023 American Gold Liberty HR and these should be just as stunning and I like that it has historic roots.
"The reason why the eagle looks impoverished" We had a good laugh over that. It is such an obvious disparaging of an eagle to me it is comical. The uneven spacing of the star just really, really bothers me in that I am encouraged to look away and just accept it. I will definitely pass on this Flowing Hair coins. Thank you for the great video!
Hey Sal, I am more of a Au stacker but this is special enough to get one gold BUT prob two when Trump wins 🥳 as per my crazy Asian wife who loves the Orangeman more than gold itself. 🥵

I appreciate that characterization and I am not liking the coin.. I am glad that most folks like it.
LMAO

Cant wait to add the gold flowing hair to the collection.
These will double once they are sold out. Lots of collectors on this planet. 🤑🤑
They should have made the silver medal a coin also.
AGREE!
The US Mint doesn’t get to decide. Congress does.

It would be wonderful if gold drop to 1700 by then.

Appears more like a mere crane rather than a bold eagle.
No thanks. I'll stick with the AGB or AGE.

Such an iconic design, and a justifiable tribute coin.
only 1 set of dies were made for 1794. Many were made for 1795 FHs. 🐣

Nice video Sal, I love coins with Edge lettering, I like it better than the Silver flowing hair medal, to be determined coming November 14th
They should retroactively make the silver a coin.
Not a lot of movement today on Silver. The Flowing hair Eagle looks like he had his neck wrung.
