Hello, I'm a rapper so I can tell you the standard has always been in hiphop. You can't be the GOAT if you don't write your rhymes. You can make music, make hits but you can't be the best :)
I can tell that gkmc and tpab is generational because they are top albums within their generation, while sticking to a more traditional approach to music as opposed to fads and trendy bs... I am from the 90's era, "pac died when I was in 6th grade for reference," but I can't help but notice how better some of kendricks earlier work sounds today.. but then again I'm from an era where it wasn't cool to bite other people style because it's hot, just be original and creative

Stop kidding yourselves, it’s one of the best of all time. It doesn’t need to be 30 years old before we realize it’s better than shit like Thriller and Illmatic and Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. It’s already over 10 years old and it’s still in the Billboard 200. 600 weeks straight. Y’all need to let it go, it’s an all time classic and by 2030 that will only be proven further.
I agree with this logic, that's a solid way to do things, not this wishy washy way the person who wrote the list did. You make sense. My understanding of that list is they wanted to share artists they like, but forgot that the list was published publicly not just their room.
Ye’s longevity is actually crazy, arguably 7 classics (CDO, LR, graduation, 808s, MBDTF, TLOP, kids see ghosts) and 2 solid albums(WTT, Donda)… and amazing songs off of ye and JIK (not the best projects all together tho). His only miss is vultures
Only thing I disagree with is the idea there hasn’t been enough time for multiple generations to digest GKMC. You could argue at least 3 have listened to GKMC because of how accessible music is these days. Anyone from ages 15-50 have probably heard this album. And you can say it’s digestible to all of them.
Even Akademiks gives Kendrick his props from time to time, I don’t know where this vitriolic hate spawned from inside of Mal, but it’s lowkey hilarious 😂
Billie the goat also the comments lmao feel off?? Her last album her most selling album and fastest to reach 1 billion and she has the most streamed ep of all time in Spotify and the youngest to win 2 Oscar yeah I want to feel off like that🤣
TPAB arguably one of the greatest rap albums of all time. GKMC i think is #7 due it still being on the Billboard 200 charts after its debut (longest rap album the on that chart). I am not mad at any one of those two being in the top 10 if i had to prefer one over the other it would be TPAB, but GKMC is very nostalgic.
This is exactly why he should not be commenting on hip-hop if he doesn’t understand the importance of writing your own raps in this genre. He uses the word music loosely We are talking about hip-hopnot any genre.
Bro.... the being a real MC and being in the GOAT talk and having ghost writers that rule was made since MCing became a thing. Esp in the 90s you cant consider yourself the GOAT if you were exposed for having ghostwriters. Were talking about the lyrical OGs. You cant be in the GOAT talk with somebody else writing your life for you. Its pretty standard esp since the late 80s its been the standard. Check any GOAT list and all of them write they own shit. Cee i fw your takes but nah dawg
So what about Michael Jackson having Thriller crowned as the greatest album of all time soon thereafter. Not much time had gone by? Does that make it less legitimate of a claim? I know you like being different but think critically please. Kendrick has by far produced multiple bodies of work that will stand the test of time. Literal art. It’s being studied in universities. Y’all talking about placement.
Its generational. Stop playing.you think people dont know generational music when they first hear it?? Shit aint gotta be old. The first week thriller dropped people probably knew. Shit doesnt BECOME generational. It is or it aint. GKMC is.
The level of difficulty to make it and sustain a career as a RAPPER is staggering. To be the biggest artist and to have your greatest RAPS of all time be another person’s greatest raps of all time disqualifies you from being in the MC conversation. It’s based on merit. The best rappers/writers with no fans get more respect than the big name rappers who build careers off of other peoples’ talent. No one’s saying it can’t be done, it just isn’t respected.
The standard isn’t set by the consumer which is why Drake survived the allegations. The standard is set by other MCs. It’s just not something they themselves can enforce because of the nature of music. Rapping and being an MC come with different standards
bro everybody know what makes the best rapper alive, is the if you can write your won songs and can be versatile in what you say and think, and it has to be authentic.. If drake claims he's got a pen. get in the booth and drop a classic like TAKE CARE...oppps. that was weekends album. So real shit what has he created himself thats authentic to his life. cuz the only thing i see, is that hes great actor and reminds of trump the way he dodging the allegations and shi, while at the same time pointing the finger , and sending snake disses on insta gram like an angry EX.
I got control system over that album soooo yea. Now rather that it’s a better crafted album or not I think that’s a different story. Sidebar Frank being number 5 is nuts since Wiseman wasn’t on the album.
Having songwriters doesn't mean someone wrote ur bars lmfao. Like bruh people write melodies and compose shit. Every producer should get a writers credit tbh
It’s crazy to hear people in their 20’s talk about the standard in hiphop and don’t know the first thing about it😂. And this is why hiphop is dying. The whole point of being a hiphop artist is their pin not someone else’s. The skill is to turn their stories into art.
and idc if you need help finding the beat and maybe the concept of the song or album, but the words have to be you and if its a song thatss deep and has meaning behind it. yoi may need help getting those words out which is fine. but taking a song from a young artist and remixing or playin em because you got star power. or using damn near the same words that the first sample gave you is not cool.
M a l fits be crazy as fuk because you can tell he tried to dress it down by putting sweats on like all this is just a casual fit but it's obvious that he tried so hard
That is a stupid argument because you allow rappers right now to say they're the best of all time and how could you tell that when you don't know what wrappers are coming in the future and a certain rappers have only been rapping for 20 years so what do you mean you can't say that music is not generational just because it was just now created it was only 10 years ago that's a dumb argument
I understand the praise of Thriller due to its impact, but when you go through the tracklist only like half of the songs hit, and on a 9 song record that just can’t be overlooked.
I don't understand Mal's whole bit can anyone explain to me what the relationship between Mal and Kedrick is? I would only take up for one man that hard and that is my father. For real I'll fight someone over this. 😅Trying to argue with me that my dad abused me out of something in their imagination, nothing I have ever said?? Crazy world out here in these streets. Ok, I’ll agree with Mal on this one topic. There is no way in h3ll GKMC is legitimately a top 10 album all time across all genres. And I’m a huge fan of that album.
GKMC was one of those essential albums that defined my life as a teenager. That album is still charting on Billboard 200 since it's debut first rap album with that amount of longevity. However, TPAB is better.
@@davidcici11Evolution I agree that GKMC is an essential album that helped define popular music in the 2010s. And I’m sure it will still be considered a classic 20+ years from now. However, there are way too many albums with as much or more cultural impact and influence that have already stood the test of time for decades that should be ranked higher than GKMC. I don’t know the methodology they used to compile that list, but I’m sure part of it was to appeal to young and old music listeners.

If we cool about collaborators, then all we celebrate about a person is their taste. They don’t exhibit skills
Being the best rapper and being the best artist/musician is two different things.
No it’s not rappers are artist you can’t separate the two lmao
Ye’s longevity is actually crazy, arguably 7 classics (CDO, LR, graduation, 808s, MBDTF, TLOP, kids see ghosts) and 2 solid albums(WTT, Donda)… and amazing songs off of ye and JIK (not the best projects all together tho). His only miss is vultures
808s and tlop is great not classics
TLOP might be his best album. At the least top 3. @mike04574
@@mike04574Yeah legit 808s is only mentioned by the masses for like 3 songs. Its only a “cult” classic bc it legit inspired a bunch of other artists.
Bro is bring up thriller as an example when that is a POP album 😭😭 yall are talking about hip hop albums and wanna bring up thriller??? Cope
To Pimp a Butterfly is better than every album in the entire list. i stand on that until i die.
Billie the goat also the comments lmao feel off?? Her last album her most selling album and fastest to reach 1 billion and she has the most streamed ep of all time in Spotify and the youngest to win 2 Oscar yeah I want to feel off like that🤣
Mal is a mean glizzy glazer
TPAB arguably one of the greatest rap albums of all time. GKMC i think is #7 due it still being on the Billboard 200 charts after its debut (longest rap album the on that chart).
I am not mad at any one of those two being in the top 10 if i had to prefer one over the other it would be TPAB, but GKMC is very nostalgic.
This is exactly why he should not be commenting on hip-hop if he doesn’t understand the importance of writing your own raps in this genre. He uses the word music loosely We are talking about hip-hopnot any genre.
Right any other genre like pop it's fine if others write for you but not as a MC
Bro.... the being a real MC and being in the GOAT talk and having ghost writers that rule was made since MCing became a thing.
The voters for this are younger than ebro's generation cause he even said confessions was too low. but the voters wasn't going to understand that
I stopped watching R&M once I saw old ass Mal crash out for Drake. Mans is severely compromised.
Bruh tpab is over 10 years old and is still culturally relevant. Tpab will absolutely be seen as a generational work.
M a l fits be crazy as fuk because you can tell he tried to dress it down by putting sweats on like all this is just a casual fit but it's obvious that he tried so hard
I mean the are currently 3 generations walking the earth it's okay to say going is generational if it stands the test of time after a decade
music is subjective so it really doesn't matter. For me it is valued on how it makes me feel.
How much is Drake paying this ninja for this much glazing?
It’s crazy how people speak about their opinions like it’s facts…
We gotta keep it real and just say that Mal is a loser. It's not hating. It is what it is.
If mal made a list, drake would b all over it (from 1 - 100).
It isn’t Shawn if he doesn’t have one horrid take out of a bunch of decent ones for the week lmfao
Man acting like anyone still plays thriller. Like only ya momma plays that shit still
I feel like a lot of yall did not grow up in hip hop
Confessions should have been top 5 at least
ghostwriting is NEVER okay.
Grifting to all sides is called Pandering
The semen
That is a stupid argument because you allow rappers right now to say they're the best of all time and how could you tell that when you don't know what wrappers are coming in the future and a certain rappers have only been rapping for 20 years so what do you mean you can't say that music is not generational just because it was just now created it was only 10 years ago that's a dumb argument
I understand the praise of Thriller due to its impact, but when you go through the tracklist only like half of the songs hit, and on a 9 song record that just can’t be overlooked.
Shawn’s inability to let the video play out drives me crazy
Having an all time list here on earth is crazy , this is a when we get to heaven conversation ..
I thin GKMC is valid in the list overall if you try to pick 2-3 defining rap albums from each decade. no.7 is WILD but it will be generation defining
it already is. 2012 was 12 yearsago
Why does this dude even want to go to the pop out show?? 😂😂
But really though am puzzled for the reason here. Mal is near his 40s right? Did Drake help him launch his career or something?
He is one of the biggest Drake glazers on the planet so he is obviously jealous and mad at Kendrick for destroying his queen.
@@davidcici11Evolution Honestly Drake maybe the type to like that but I'm beyond disturbed. This man has no understanding of worth or self-worth let alone contemplate respect or self-respect. All his actions I have been confused about make sense now. He's a whole big flightless bird, the dodo itself.
That's what I've been trying to figure out. Why does Mal defend Drake like they're related . Mal has said Drake is a better rapper than Black Thought. Years ago, I was trying to figure out if Mal works in music, but I could only find that he's just a weed man for celebrities. It's not even have just a difference in opinion . He's yelling over Drake like his life is on the line and is so incredibly bias that it's beyond just having an opinion. There seems to be some other reason why he treats Drake like a father.
I agree with him that 7 of all time is too high but he's very passionate about it even though no one is arguing with him, it feels kinda like hating
GKMC is NOT the last classic rap album hell nah its a classic but the last classic? just tell me people follow hype
Kendrick has not set the standard for a rap album. No rapper is looking at Kendrick as a standard. It’s nas, biggie, 2pac, Jay and Wu-T are the standards. I’d much rather hold the opinion of the rappers than these new listeners
I know for sure that GKMC is not 5 slots behind thriller but Mals reactions shows how much us ourselves look down on hip hop
they didn’t have taylor swift’s most recent deluxe in there they had the re-recording of her most popular and most beloved album so it makes sense
