I think all of us Tyranid players have felt this one time or another. Also Tyranids were my first army and war gaming models I ever did and it was a nightmare but I look back on it now and I won’t trade it for anything.
@@r1ptidee I understand this compleatly Tyranieds are were also my first army and I thought the best start would be to build and paint like 90 modlles and it was awesome (not only small units also some monsters)
I'm thinking of collecting a Tyranid army as my first wargaming army but holy cow the price and amount of modals is a deterrent. (Plus they don't look easy to paint.)
@@UnicornT1D Tyranids are some of the best value for money if you want models in a box. Use speed painting strategies on the cheap troops and then spend hours and hours on the giant monsters
I REALLY respect this, I've struggled with building and painting a batch of 20 models before (Necron warriors) so doing 10 times as much at once is really impressive. And they turned out great!
Yup, 200 is a large number of Zombie but if you are running an Undead Army you need Skeletons as well along with those Zombies. So I would think 150 - 200 of each would make for the proper Undead Army along with a few other things.
A horde like that would make a for a fun game setup. Have a group of friends and each one gets to have one Guardsmen and arm them with anything from their data sheet (maybe make rules for Ammo and scatter melee options for players to find). Have them move through map with GSC style tokens that spawn hordes (game master sets them up and can hide them under scatter terrain to set traps). The objective, to prep and escape on an evac ship. Maybe throw in some side objectives like going to different parts of the board to "Open the hanger doors" "obtain fuel" etc..... Yeah I'm doing this, thanks for the Halloween idea!
small tip when sanding that many minis - keep your airbrush nearby and give each model a good blast of high pressure air after sanding. Also giving up on the miliputting less than halfway through was hilariously predictable, you are a madman Jay!
I really want to do this project but with skaven. You definitely inspired me to look into it again as I couldn’t fathom painting hundreds of rats before
I think this number of zombies will sell the hoard idea perfectly on any board you play on. I can't imagine taking on a project this large without getting burnout but the final outcome is a hoard of models you can use in just about any setting.
As a tyranid player - yessss, join us in the suffering! However - I love that you kind of hit a 'critical mass' of models where half-assed painting ends up looking good in a sort of 'quantity is its own quality' way
OK, this was a great job! Not for this year of course, but if you wanna add some sci-fi flair to the horde, you can add a box of the Mantic Plague Zombies to the lot, and instantly make the horde feel more sci-fi, most are feral monsters but some are still wearing pieces of armor
I’ve actually had a similar idea to this to bring the Scourge from Warcraft into 40K. Now imagine those 200 zombies, they can only move 3 inches per turn, and they are pretty weak and have poor stats but there’s 200 of them and they all have wrist mounted stormbolters. And in the back of the pack sits Arthas waiting to slay anyone who survives the relentless onslaught.
Loving the new set Jay, zombies looking great too solid effort!! EOB has hit a new height in quality of UA-cam videos, I watch every single video you post and I just can’t get enough! Nick you are the editing king! Get back behind the camera tho I love the videos with you in it!
When the Catachan plastic kit was first released I purchased them and painted them up and converted them (as best I could for a 12/13yr old on a budget) to look like the S.T.A.R.S Alpha and Bravo teams from the Resident Evil PS1 game. The plan was to purchase loads of the Fantasy zombies regiment and models to represent the other more exotic enemies from the franchise and create a survival scenario. Unfortunately never made it to the second phase. This video has rekindled that idea though with a slightly modified Kill Team rules set perhaps.
As a dm who is running a home brew zombie apocalypse+ campaign I know this exact song and dance lol. I have collected zombies from many different war games, board games, model kits, etc but my favorite are definitely the ones I had the ability to kit bash
Last week I finished building, basing, and priming 50 Necron models to try and get them primed before the cold weather. I never want to do that again. From now on I think I'll take it one unit at a time like a sane person.
I’m sure this will get lost in the comments but I have a trick for speed painting the rims black. I use a Sharpie or a permanent marker. It dries super fast and only takes 1 or 2 passes over the rim.
These bases are mostly for lamps, post and trolley wire which easily falls apart. I'll be honest ive got no idea i've collected trains for 13 years and didn't thought i'd be surprised today...
Jay I can feel for you since over the last two months I finally decided to get my many miniatures that were in boxes onto bases and now have around 800 Empire/Human, 320+ Dwarves & nearly 300 Elves put together and mounted on bases and movement trays and that is just Infantry and Support weapons still have the cavalry to do. I still have my Orks & Goblins about the same size army as my Empire/Humans and Undead (will have around 400 or so miniatures when done) armies to do. Lots of glue, bases and movement trays. So an update to this post, as of today the Dwarves and Humans Infantry are done and only have 75 Elves to go to finish off the 1,205 Infantry. Then it on to the Undead which will require getting their movement trays and getting them sorted into units. Lots of units and thinking that I probably will need to get some Zombies & Ghouls to go with the Cultists & Skeletons that I have.
geez and I thought I was burnt out after finishing 40 necron warriors. amazing job, this makes me want to start on the 40 poxwalkers that I haven't even started building yet.
This months white dwarf has a great set of rules for a left 4 dead style survival game for AoS! Its heroes under 7 wounds trying to find relics and escape before being taken by the horde
I made zombies from this box before. One thing I figured out is that you can increase number by box if go in for walking legs (sans a torso) and emerging from the ground torsos.
Great vid. I’ve never seen oil washes removed with a paper towel immediately after application. Most people seem to wait 20 mins or so then use a cue tip dipped in mineral spirits
Dude, you are a monster. I think a zombie kill team should have 5 zombies in it, but their special ability "oh sh1! there's more!" means that every time a number comes up on any dice roll, another zombie enters the board.
LOVE the way the video turned out, I really like the more dynamic style of those videos for theses types of projects. Music, variety of locations and very story driver, makes for entertaining content !
I love your channel! This project is crazy! You did an amazing job on all of them! Makes me learn how to speed paint. I really got to get those air brushes. They alone made your zombies stand out all individually with all the different colors in different angles. After you were done doing washes and dry brushing they all looked super cool! Happy Halloween and thank you for another great video!
I have the same box of KOW Zombies. I have put a bunch together ( for AD&D) and I think I still have ten or so left to build! Lol. I assembled some of them as just the upper halves on the base making it appear that they are clawing their way up out of the loamy earth! That is a lot of models my dude, kudos!
66 units of 3 Zombies in Onepagerules Age of Fantasy skirmish is a 1320 point army, Would need some tiger balm for your biceps after pushing them around the table for a million hours though.
Wow impressive feat! And they even look good after that miniscule time per model time schedule! Nice shots with them charging the marines I could have watched much more of that! Cudos!
New subscriber, loving each video I find! I'm learning a lot of new hobby tricks I never would've ever thought of on my own just by tuning in for a little bit.
Mantic make round bases with a circular depression that's designed to accommodate that circular platform the minis stand on. Perhaps they've discontinued the round ones.
I had this crazy idea for a list, would never build it, but the list was "how many poxwalkers can I run?" So I got to thinking, the issue with Poxwalkers is you can't run them unless you have an equal amount of "Core," units. But Possessed count as Core. So I had this crazy Idea, get some possessed and replace their heads with regular space marine heads, get them battle damaged, and paint their daemon augments as Nurgle gifts instead of daemon, than paint the armor on them in various chapter colors. You now have, Zombie Space Marines. So a list with this idea would be: 43 possessed. 140 Poxwalkers. Warlord Typhus (he buffs Poxwalkers) It is literally the dumbest list you could EVER run, but it actually works, and might be insanely fun. Sorry my turns take 2 hours to move all the walkers though.
That is funkin awesome my dude! I wish I had the drive you do to get such a project done! Hell, I'd settle for being able to knock out 10-20 models in a week or so! Haha
This was really fun to watch. I do my armies in batches and the only part of it that ever feels grindy to me is mold line removal and sanding. I actually quite enjoy doing all other aspects in batches. So it was really fun to see you tackle a huge one like this.
They looks sooo good, think it was all down to your planning on how to achieve results with minimal effort per model. I hate painting the base rim on a single model so can’t imagine painting 200 in one sitting! Looks like a great kit too from mantic
this is amazing! i am just finishing up on my cadian infantry 100 guys building the last 10 then i have 20 to paint then spray varnish and base all of them and im done! has taken me a long time but i am pleased to say im almost there i think your zombies look amazing youre a trooper and thanks for the motivation keep it spooky! -Jacob
for folks wanting to paint their own zombies, adding clumps of dirt on their body and clipping off limbs adds a nice touch.
