Celina Tent’s HGPTS Used in Typhoon Yutu Recovery Efforts

Relief efforts on Tinian, located in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, were conducted by a joint effort from Seabees with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1 and local Tinian citizens. Businesses, government buildings, homes and schools were heavily damaged by Super Typhoon Yutu, which hit Tinian on October 25th, 2018. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and CLB-31 arrived on October 29th-31st as part of Task Force-West (TF-W) which is providing Department of Defense support to the CNMI’s civil and local officials as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency-supported recover effort. As the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, the 31st is a flexible force ready to perform a wide range of military operations across the Indo-Pacific region.
