Thanks! Thing threw me a few curves I didn't mention. First was when I was using a 1/4" headphone adapter, which chose to come apart when I tried to remove it, necessitating the removal of the head jack and disassembly to removed the pieces.
Second was the traces on the control board were extremely delicate, much more so than usual even for vintage gear, and 2 eyes detached from their traces. I found and fixed them, but it was not fun.

To get the rust out of the pores, phosphoric acid works very well.

You know, I'd heard of that stuff but never used it. Thanks for bringing it up, I'll try it on the next one!

Nice explanation of the tone controls, thanks Ray ! I believe you can use noise and a FFT to give you idea what's going on as well. Proper good work here and an interesting tutorial...cheers!

Thanks Andy. Good tip about using noise and an FFT for this task. This is why I always try to read the comments. I'm still learning too!

I used Happich Simichrome polish with buffing cylinders made for cleaning jacks for the telecom industry.

Ray, I've been looking forward to the rest of the restoration of thie AU-719. Thanks for posting. You mentioned re-looming the wires. If you want to replicate the factory look, here's an article in Audiokarma about how to do so.

@@atw4321 I've never seen shielded transformers on a 719, only the 717 or 919. Maybe they put them in later models like you say.
