I like using the 5 great do a strong up stoke the cone to the 3 and repeat the say thing after a nice blues blue run or lick or licks... I use a thick but shape pointed picking and Harmony style pics very strong why people mistaken for a bass pic but it's the cost of chips to van and sharp...lol... What do you do if your guitar doesn't have a cut-out? It's almost impossible to play chords past the twelfth fret.
All of these open chords are doable without a cutaway, it just takes a little bit of reaching. Not super comfy but it is only for one chord, so you suck it up... You will find it gets a little easier. The one chord that is particularly difficult above the 12th though is A, that's why I gave the alternative of Asus2. Best of luck!
Actually, the A chord is quite easy. Make a bar with your first finger on the D and G strings and place your second finger on the B string underneath. I find that the C chord is almost impossible with no cutaway and prefer to end using a triad on the 8th fret which works quite nicely. Triads are also a nice way to end songs.
