Don’t forget, “mentally retarded” was medical terminology for a very long time. Changes were made a good while after the word “retard” became a playground insult and the new term became “cognitively disabled.” I still remember going to client houses with my grandmother as a child, where the change in vocabulary was not always acknowledged by parents, and in private my grandmother still used the terms occasionally when generally referring to the types of patients she saw as a behavioral therapist.
Those words are still used in my psychology textbook, you would’ve thought they’d change it
@@celina617 If it was published before the 2010s, that certainly would make sense, as many older psychologists still used the terms, and those same people would be the ones writing said textbooks. Any newer and it's clear the editing standard for that textbook is low.
Also the Sidemen had no problem saying the r-word in videos as recent as 2016. Some people learn why it’s wrong, while others only change because it affects their bottom line.

8:26 this “ad” isn’t a real ad. It was a sketch or something for a comedy program at the time, all I remember is that I think it somehow ended up on Adult Swim, and that’s how it gained popularity. But just letting you know that this ad is thankfully not real.
