Suggestion if you do this again next time. Get a whole bunch of snap pops and then throw them at the pile of duffels with the tomatoes in them. This will cause all of the tomatoes to break at once (may need a few snap pops) and flood the whole ship.

I always wanted to do this as botanist, but my RNG always makes kudzu :')
If you'd like to avoid kudzu, pay attention to your crops and de-weed them often while mutating. The cause is the weeds mutating into kudzu.
I did this once but i put in tomato pirozine so we had fireballs it wasnt effective but hey kida fun
