Actually it was the same with me: Ajahn Brahms talks saved - not my life- but my marriage in a separation crisis. I got addicted to the talks, hearing them during my housework and gardening. Slowly it changed my views and my life - to the better! Now I am practising intensly.
Laugh with the kookaburra. The dawn chorus always makes me happy. Even better with the rosy glow of the morning.

I know 108 is supposed to be a special number in Buddhism, but what exactly does it signify?

In Buddhism, it is also believed that the road to nirvana is laden with exactly 108 temptations. So, every Buddhist has to overcome 108 earthly temptations to achieve nirvana. In addition, the ring of prayer beads worn around the waist of Zen priests is usually made of 108 beads."

The most compassionate thing to do to ghost is to teach them to recite the name of Amitabha Buddha. This will help it to be reborn in Amitabha’s Pure Land. It will be freed from samsara. Namo Amitabha Buddha! Namo Amituofo! Namu Amital Bu! Namu Amida Butsu! 南無阿彌陀佛！
It is not as easy as you think. Especially if the ghosts are controlled by certain practitioners of the black magic.
The best is to meditate . The merits you gain from meditation, can be shared like a light of a candle crossing to a different realms. The power of our consciousness

Stray wild dogs and domesticated dogs. Similarly, stray ghosts and domesticated ghosts. You may tame a stray dog or ghost but one cannot be sure to tame a domesticated dog or ghost whose owner owns it.
At any point in life one can learn to drop all the previous karma, composite acions/ results. Remember Angulimala, who killed 999 people but became an arhath. The skill is to learn to drop , not to be prisoners of the dead past, like the light of a dead star dead but appears real. What if you would like to meet up with ghost of a beloved departed loved one?
If you need to see them they'll seek you out, but you actively seeking them out can cause them suffering as it could cause them to cling to this realm rather than moving beyond.

Lord Gotama Buddha said there is no soul do how there be ghosts and eternity.
Now who is really telling the Truth.
But there maybe some misleading teachings from some Buddhist followers or disciples or masters who might misunderstood that Lord Gotama Buddha might have preached there is hell or Hades.
Gautama buddha believed in mind that takes forms and reincarnates.
You are too quick to express your opinions which is formed from limited knowledge. First the concept of soul is a western concept.

I'm gonna find salvation by doing good deeds in this naturally mortal and diseased life so I can get good results in my next naturally mortal and diseased life. I gotta tell you man this teaching of Karma which is an obvious lie to anyone with more than 2 brain cells, really makes me wanna quit my religion. It is just so stupid and wrong.

It is more than doing good deeds and expecting next Life. The goal to reach Nirvana by Meditating and practing Buddha's teaching.
