  • 2023 is behind us now and 2024 is just beginning.
So here are my best predictions for what you can expect to see happening in RVing itself and in the industry as well.
Correction - The percentages quoted for used RV prices were for declining volume at used RV auctions instead. Year-to-year sales actually dropped by 22% for motorhomes and 1.3% for towables.

Quality control issues for both new and used RVs seem to be a huge issue. For used pricing, too many Covid buyers are upside down right now and will have a tougher time selling.

Yes, quality control is still not where it should be yet. We'll see what this next year brings.

As always Dwayne, thoughtful information. Boy am I glad our 5th wheel RV is a 2019, assembled fall 2018. We would hate to have to replace our RV with any of the units manufactured today. We do not like all the "Bling" technology manufacturers are installing in new RVs. Lippert One Control, touch screens, proprietary onboard WiFi, On-Demand anything comes to our mind. So what you can make your RV dance with your iPhone ! Owners continue to have problems with this "Bling" stuff.
Glass doors on refrigerators that shatter, oh, then they tell you it's your fault, because in the manual it says you have to tow with the fridge empty, how stupid ! Very low cargo space or capacities, but hey your got bigger windows ! Barely adequate suspension systems or tires in TT or 5th wheels, the list goes on.
Based on reading RV forums, taken with a grain of sault of course, quality hasn't improved much if at all, dealership service is still terrible, and lots more mobile techs out there that will come to you because of increased failures. What will 2024 look like, predictions, predictions, but I'm sure interest rates and prices will play a factor.

Thanks for sharing your opinion with us. The workforce effects from the Covid pandemic is what has created most of the issues in RVs built between 2020 - 2022 and hopefully that is finally behind us. And honestly, many of the complaints you hear on forums are from buyers who didn't research what they were buying and didn't use an RV inspector to make sure of the quality of the rig they bought. But it sounds like you have found a great RV for your needs. Enjoy it and have safe and happy travels!

Hello Dwayne. First of all, I congratulate you on your videos, it's really interesting. Personally, I believe that prices for used RVs will really decrease around August 2024 when owners will have lost their illusions of the prices that we experienced during the pandemic. As I often say, there is only one thing that controls the price of RVs: supply and demand. Whatever the RV sellers and suppliers do.

Whenever it happens, I think you are right that eventually the used market RV prices have to drop due to having more available than there are RVers who want to buy. Thanks for watching!

A thoughtful approach to an interesting topic. At the moment, I am not optimistic that RV sales will grow this year. IMHO, RVs are overpriced and loan rates are still high. Top it off with poor quality, limited access to repair services, and perhaps market saturation, and there is little cause for optimism. The RV industry has given lip service for years about improving quality and despite this, the quality remains poor. As long as consumers purchase poor quality RVs, there is no impetus for the industry to change.

Hi Robert. You make some good points for consideration. There are definitely going to be challenges to buying RVs in the near future. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I think that prices will continue to fall. High interest rates, recession, high prices of RVs and the lack of quality products will continue to be the reasons buyers are staying away. The downfall will continue in 2024.

Thousand Trails doesn’t keep nice campgrounds-They are dumps -They keep up the snowbird places like Southern California, Southern Florida and maybe the Phoenix area -but the rest are dumps-I would never buy a membership to those -Plus there is a large part of the country they aren’t even in 🤷‍♀️

I totally disagree with you Mary. We have stayed at dozens of TT parks across the country and have enjoyed almost all of them. And getting full hookups for $0/night is fabulous. The savings using a TT membership is just undeniable. And the parks themselves meet our expectations just fine. I covered all the details about Thousand Trails pretty thoroughly here - rvinspectionandcare.com/thousand-trails-review/

I would also add my humble opinion is, COVID RVs are not nearly the quality of years past. Lots of sloppy work on mine. Manufacturing thoughts is, let dealer fix under warranty. Hence, dealers are way backed up. Hence, you can’t enjoy the RV you just bought. I know a lot of industry people say not true. But as an owner of COVID RV time, it would be hard to convince me COVID RV trailers were equally good as before COVID and now.
So RV manufacturing reputations has been damaged.

You are correct that Covid-built RVs can have more issues than those built earlier. But it doesn't mean that you can't get a good RV that was built during the pandemic. It just means that you have to be vigilant and careful. And be sure to use a certified RV inspector before buying to make sure you know what the condition of the RV really is. Thanks for sharing your experience here.
