OMFG, Mercyful fate covering Judas priest SPECIALLY THE RIPPER ( such an amazing song) I never tought this could happen but ohwell, We all know King diamond is influenced by Judas priest :) Amazing cover.
Without a doubt, Hank said that Priest were one of their biggest influences and it's really easy to notice that. Tbh early Mercyful Fate sounds like Judas Priest from the '70s on steroids. There are photos of King, Michael and Hank in Judas Priest t-shirts. Two greatest metal bands ever.
He can't even hit the notes Rob Halford hit. He has to go into falsetto. I'm a singer and I continue the song a lot better than champ. Sorry but all you people saying them diamonds can cover Rob Halford? Hell no
@@andrewmorton7364 I think you never saw king diamond sing live, today x today Halford eats it raw. also king diamond has 18 voice registers, it is unique. I think he could even do a much better version of the ripper.
A Mansion in Darkness. It would be cool to hear Bruce Dickinson sing MF/King Diamond songs too! Raphael Mendes (on YT) sounds EXACTLY like Bruce and has done some Ozzy and Dio songs in Bruce's voice! You should check him out.
K.K. & Glenn should've had King Diamond subbing for Halford, instead of Owens. (Can ya even imagine how kick ass Painkiller or Green Manalishi would've sounded..?) Or alternatively, Halford & Co. should cover Angel of Light or Melissa... wouldn't that be something..?
It would have sounded awful, you don't want to hear KD try Painkiller. Studio magic is making this cover sound fuller than it would be live, it's pure falsetto, Rob and Tim don't rely solely on that.
I and a lot of others would like to hear that... fuck you and your opinion. I actually saw The King live before and his voice was dead on as he was on his albums so once again fuck you.
You obviously haven't seen King Diamond perform live. He does rely on falsetto for the fifth/sixth octave notes, but his falsetto sounds extremely strong live, which is more than can be said for Halford's high notes these days (listen to a Painkiller performance from the 2000s onwards, he has to hunch himself over just to get close to the notes he used to hit, and he sounds terrible when he sings it. King Diamond would have sang it better, even with falsetto.) Also, Tim Owens and and Rob Halford have tenor voices, King Diamond is a baritone. They have different voices, sure, but King can actually go much lower than either Tim or Rob without using fry, while Tim and Rob can sing higher than him without going into falsetto (but, let's be clear here, Tim doesn't use falsetto for high notes, Rob Halford does use falsetto for high notes, just not all the time), so it's a bit silly to compare their vocal ranges since they have virtually the same range. It also seems silly to condemn a baritone like King Diamond for using falsetto to reach high notes when his falsetto notes are extremely deliberate, on key/pitch, and much stronger than the high notes many singers hit without falsetto (including Rob and Tim). I'm not saying that King is the greatest singer in the world, just that he gets a lot of unwarranted hate from people just because of his famous falsetto vocal technique. Also, he doesn't rely on falsetto all the time for high notes. Check out Give Me Your Soul where he hits a 5th octave note (C5, I think) without using falsetto.
Night of the Stomrider, Burnt Offerings and Something Wicked are 90's heavy metal good stuf. Albums like those where much better than the numetal shit came later. They deserve more respect than calling them a joke
Take some vocal lessons before making that remark. King Diamond has 0 resonance at all with is singing, it's all 100% pure falsetto, a lot of his fans don't understand the gigantic difference between guys like Rob and Tim versus Kind Diamond.
Hi, vocally trained here, if you don't think Falsetto doesn't carry resonance (especially King Diamond's voice in particular compared to other falsetto singers) then you really do not know what you are talking about. He is singing within his pharyngeal voice which is actually connected to the head. He is in fact pushing his falsetto notes into his HEAD register making it a "reinforced falsetto", which is much stronger than "normal" falsetto singers like say, Justin Timberlake. King has just as much power as a singer who is singing chest connected to head, maybe you just have different ears than I do. If King's vocals are weak, then I guess Barry Gibbs vocals were pretty weak too since they use the same EXACT technique. In fact Barry Gibb's high "screams" and KD's almost sound identical.
I personally think this version is way better it’s done so clean. Judy’s priests version is just not as clean and precise as this one. Come on now disturbed does some seriously great remakes. If ur going to remake a song it’s to me gotta be better than the original. Johnny cash his version of hurt is amazing. This guy Leo something check out his remakes from frog leap studios listen to toxic by a brittney Spears song. It’s great. He does a few songs that are really good. But toxic is the best. Goodbye from Las Vegas Nevada.
I love King Diamond and Merciful Fate... but I think they butchered a great song. What's especially disappointing about this is that it was King's vocal performance that ruined it. A half-assed effort. Iced Earth's cover was MUCH better.
I have to agree. I read through the comments and most people are just calling it amazing. Some even calling it better than the original. Its not the worst thing I've ever heard but it's far from a great cover. King Diamond misses the mark here quite a lot. I love both bands but won't be listening to this track again.
I like how King kept all his "King-isms" for the end and stayed true to the song for most of the vocals.
Probably the only band I'd approve to cover this song.
Paul era Maiden.
@@hmpz36911 Bruce doesn´t have voice enough to sign this piece of art
Iced earth did a pretty good job on it too I thought. But the only person who I think can ever come close to Halfords falsetto is the king here 😉
Y maiden
I couldn't agree more. Cheers!
I'm 65 years old and I've listened to the king for half my life
I DEMAND of a live version of this with both Halford and King Diamond singing on it!
For shure
The ultimate duet, King Diamond & Rob Halford...I'd love to hear it!!

Amen, Brother!
Halford seems to not hit those ultra high notes much more. But they would c CRUSH that hymn!
Add " Ripper Owens" to the List!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

The King is greatness!!!! And covering a song that is perfect from the beginning. That last scream is amazing!!!!!

Great cover, and also mercyful fate combo guitars are probably the only ones that could be compared to Glenn/kk, especially in denner/shermann version
Denner / Shermann are probably my favorite duo. They can give me chills sometimes. Especially on the Don't Break the Oath album. Damn.

It sounds like it could have been on Melissa. You can tell Fate was inspired by Priest.
