This seems like an interesting anime. Alot could have been solved if they did the Stargate protocol (a rover wih camera first and then a visiting team)... If also the emperor wasn't a dbag warlord and would have talked to the visitors first before attacking. But those politicians From both sides! They show how much corruption and ineptness the higher ups have vs the boots on the ground. It will be interesting to see another installment of this.
The entire helicopter attack was straight from Apocalypse Now.... watch the "attack on the village" clip even taking out the AA gun was verbatim. Utter beauty in this nod to a fantastic movie.
