    I am honestly intrigued by all the Chogongjin products you tested and thank you for the review - ginseng products made for non-millionaires! 😂 One question though (and I already know this will be invidual but still 😅) - do you think that using tretinoin or adapalene and then applying the Youngan Jin cream could lead to unnecessarily high level of irritation, since it is so occlusive? 🤔

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Рік тому +3

      Ah! Great question!!
      I’ve seen differing opinions from derms on this topic. Some say to avoid “slugging” with a retinoid, while others say it’s fine to do. When I see different opinions like this, I tend to suspect that it may work for some, and not at all for others. For me, it does work (with adapalene, as I’ve never tried tret)
      That said!! I would be cautious with the first serums in conjunction with retinoids. They claim to - and seem to - increase the absorption of products applied afterwards. That’s something to keep in mind with a retinoid. If used first, they could potentially increase irritation!

    • @tomassusedik8154
      @tomassusedik8154 Рік тому +1

      @@AliceintheRabbitHole you are absolutely right and I didn't even realize this. I could be potentially increasing the risk of irritation twice - first with the essence, then with the occlusive cream 😬 I'll have to carefully consider, thanks for your insight! ☺

      Personally, I would also see how irritated my skin feels that day before using slugging to combat my acne breakout. ☺️

    I always learn something new from your videos, this was especially interesting as a woman with mature skin.
    I wanted to share my thoughts on “velvet extract”. I am not an expert in deer, so this is based on what I learned online about three years ago. In our backyard we had the opportunity to observe a buck (male deer) shed his velvet before the rut (bucks fighting to be the strongest and have the opportunity to father the most fawns) so that the blood supply and sensitive nerves to the antlers that were in the velvet have been stopped and the antlers have hardened for head-on battles other bucks. The velvet brings blood, so oxygen and nutrients, to the antlers which grow rapidly each year. Watching him remove his velvet was a bloody process as we watched him rub it off vigorously on all the tree branches he could reach over a period of hours. Our backyard looked a little like a battleground with strips of bloody velvet hanging like ornaments from the branches he did not break during the process. I don’t know what traditional methods of velvet collection were, but they might have begun with simple collection of the discarded velvet.

      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Рік тому +3

      Oh interesting, thank you for sharing! I did come across some pics of the process (as it occurs in the wild), and yep - it looks…bloody 👀

      It’s actually very inaccurate to call this 40+ or old people skincare lol. This is authentic stuff unlike the cheap “westernized Kneauty”. And you can definitely buy “younger skin” lines from history of whoo such as the pink line or whitening line. The gold and silver lines are for any age but maybe late 20-30s would really appreciate them. Red line is noticeably thicker in consistency and is labeled 40+ menopause. However if your skin is quite oily still you may want to use the silver /gold or even their most high end line huanyu. The bichup line is also a line that can easily be mixed with any of them. Not sure if you’ve heard of odile Monod but that would be the most authentic English speaker making authentic Korean skincare contents.

  • @monicali8569
    @monicali8569 Рік тому +2

    History of whoo is the most high end hanbang skincare in Korea, always used top of them line quality ingredients. Been using this brand and other lg lines for more than two decades. Most westernized sites don’t carry many selections from these authentic brands that Koreans actually use. I used to buy from Korean boutiques in Asian markets which is the most expensive way to buy , at us retail prices. But on eBay which I’ve been buying for more than a decade is most closest to Korean retail price. Much better selection as well. Whoo’s most prestigious line , hwanyu serum has over 74 herbs and any skin age can use it. Goes on very light. It’s about 1/5 of the price compared to us retail.

    One branch of my family tree is northwoods people (think legally American but really Canada in all but name.) Only three most recent generation has stopped tossing an antler into the soup for flavor and alleged immune boosting benefits.
    They'd collect the sheds when the deer dropped them and keep them until they need one. I never saw anyone wash one, though, so i feel like that might have cancelled out some benefits if there were any

    I bought an entire set of skincare products by History of Whoo during my last shopping trip to H Mart. Also got an entire free gift set (exactly the set you're reviewing here) from the same brand, which is apparently a customary practice in Korean department stores.
    Like holy cow their products make your skin feel some kind of way. AMAZING. At 56 I fit the demographic and the lady who sold it to me was 62. She uses this brand and her skin was beautiful (she's also Korean and blessed with the naturally thicker, more resilient skin Koreans are known for).
    I may have to try more from this brand.

    I’m treating my mature skin as it is - dry and sensitive and then I evaluate the environment- cold dry hot humid etc and adjust . I definitely have seen dramatic differences just with keeping it as hydrated as possible with j serums and k beauty and a smattering of other products on hand … ceramides , ginseng , mild chemical exfoliation in the morning (toner )swiftly followed by several essences and a sheet mask, using my Medicube deep shot and other devices.
    I think that when we fall for skin care targeting “ mature” skin we are going to be over charged .
    Some products I use are for acne which I don’t have but because they are gentle it works . ( also of course using vitamin c and retinols )
    Along with some devices keeping my barrier strong and skin hydrated is win win . Would rather spend money on devices that work and use yummy serums and essences followed by nourishing creams ( I’m waiting for the ginseng one from numbuzen you had reviewed ) ❤
    Thank you for all your vids
    Oh and I love the number 3 essence/toner for numbuzen 😜

      Hi. Your routine sounds interesting. My night routine had been LED red light therapy,0.1%tretinoin, matrixyl synth 6 (timeless) & moisturizer. Morning- l-ascorbic acid 20%, coenzyme Q(both timeless), moisturizer and sunscreen.
      I added K&J beauty skincare to the above routine only a month ago. While I am loving it, I don't seem to be able to add many products before I feel that my skin has stopped absorbing it. I 'think' they are only sitting on the surface. I even tried waiting between applications.
      Would love to know how you layer all your serums and essences effectively. Thanks.

    Hi Alice, it is good to include the ingredients for the hanbang tcm medicine. I may try out the history of whoo serum provided they do not have anything related to sulphur compounds. In eastern tcm medicine, I may be considered as a snake which totally detest sulphur. 😂
    As for the deer antler extract, it is usually a form of building collagen production in tcm. I drank it when I got a huge flu and I feel personally more equipped to combat inflammation with it. 😅 17:54

    I was all gung ho for a lot of these and ready to add these to my skincare list till I saw the price and the amount of silicone (not that silicone is bad but too much can seem more like a filler ingredient than a benifitial one of you know what I mean) and that they had alcohol in some of them which burns my skin 😢😢. Why do luxury brands insist on using alcohol, fragrance, and loading up their products with multiple silicons :( I guess it makes it easier to eliminate products from the to be purchased list and saves my wallet tho atleast 😂
    But I did give that the monodist a follow she is great and even though I probably can't use a lot of the products she talks about bc of the alcohol in them (rip my sulwasoo ginseng dreams😢😢) it is still super interesting to hear about the brands and their histories

    Hi Alice, I didn't have time yesterday to watch your video on han bang, which is theoretically traditional Korean medicine, not Chinese. I bought the Youngan essence and apparently it is thicker than the Sosaen boosting essence and it feels like very thick honey mixed with oil, it is a very particular texture that forms a kind of film on the skin and I feel like I needed a cream afterwards Light to put on the essence, because the Youngan essence is very dense, and that I have very dry skin and I'm in winter. But it is true that the next day my skin feels plump, juicy and with a healthy glow, at the same time less tired and I don't know if it's my idea, but more "tight". This scent also has velvet and I'm not very happy with that, but I am with the results...😬

    I really wish these companies would leave out artificial coloring and fragrances. A line could have such an interesting ingredient list and then for some reason they feel the need to drop in some yellow 5 or red 40. We’re all adults, we don’t need products to be a specific color. Especially when so many people have allergies to those types of ingredients. Having said that, I do enjoy a nice scent from time to time. But I can get that from my perfume or body lotion and not have to risk my face getting irritated. Do you think it’s possible the beauty of the packaging from some of these products makes you like them more? I know I’m definitely a sucker for a beautiful bottle. 😅😂

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Рік тому +3

      Yeah, it really is a shame as some folks won’t be able to use these. Unfortunately I’ve never seen unscented hanbang (will keep looking though!)
      And YES, I wholeheartedly believe scent/packaging has an impact! I really don’t like to do first impressions for this exact reason (at least without a hefty disclaimer that first impressions are really just for fun lol). But I do like to do these longer term trials, as at some point, the results speak for themselves. Be it good or bad!

    MisshaUS is having a 50% off sale so the price difference isn't that huge but YesStyle is still slightly cheaper. I'm debating on the Chogongjin Youngan line because its great effects on lifting and texture might be due to the high silicone content, not actual skin improvement. I'm leaning towards the one with the Pearl for skin lightening, has less silicone.

    I really enjoy all your videos and how in depth you go in the ingredients. I am kind of an ingredient nerd I much prefer natural versus chemical ingredients to my skin care. Watching your video today you mentioned the Misha chogongjin mine is having black ginseng, but when I looked at the ingredients from your link in the description box, I didn’t see black ginseng in any of them. Is it called something else instead of black ginseng?

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Рік тому +1

      Unfortunately, all forms of ginseng will look the same on an INCI. So you will need to look into what the brand says about their ginseng type and quality. I wholeheartedly believe there’s a big difference in final results based on the form used!

      Yep! And unfortunately it’s not something you can spot from the INCI, as it’s all labeled as “ginseng extract”. But red/black ginseng do indeed cost more, so brands will typically convey when they use those (and otherwise, it’s best to assume it will be fresh)

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Місяць тому +1

      It’s a very good option, but one of many options so it’s hard to just say “this is the one!”
      In contrast to a lot of creams, this one has a heavier feel in an occlusive type of way, without being suffocating. It has hanbang ingredients but also fragrance (I like the scent) since you have oily skin, I think this would absolutely be too much for day and more for night use (but it might be perfect there; I’d be guessing given I have dry skin)
      Hope that helps!

It's wonderful products 😍 for cream you need just tiny amount and warm if between your fingers, it won't ve sticky and it will be fully absorbed. Also after uplaying all routine you can cover your face with your hands so warm will help to absorb products. You can watch Sulwhasoo routine how to uplay it. 😊😊❤

    Hey Alice! Today I decided to research these fancy brands too, such as Sulwasoo and just as in the essence in this video there was alcohol Denathol kind of in the beginning of the ingredient list and I am puzzled by this, how come such expensive and respected brands out alcohol as one of the major ingredients and do you think that doesn't make the whole product not good? Since splashing alcohol on your skin daily can be bad for the skim barrier, dry out skin etc? What are your thoughts on this? Oh and also fragrance?.. :/

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Рік тому +2

      It always depends on the formulation! Alcohol formulated *in* a product is not the same as alcohol applied directly to the skin. In fact, in small amounts, it can stabilize a formula and help with penetration of the ingredients ☺️
