    My Aunt would sit on the floor while making her quilts. When I came home from school, there she would be ... on the kitchen floor ... with her sewing machine, iron, and quilt blocks. Such wonderful, warm, memories.

    The ruffle is so pretty, very delicate without being too frilly!

    I just completed a linen/flannel blanket and love it. I used a white and dark gray stripe linen which I found at JoAnn Fabrics and a white flannel. I washed both fabrics prior to cutting and seeing. Since my flannel was only 42 inches I pieced it and pressed the seam open and sewed it down on either side making it lie flat. I love the blanket!

    Ok. I don’t even know where to start... first let me say I am obsessed with your videos. I don’t know why I haven’t bumped into your videos before, but I’m so happy that I did. At first I thought I wanted a “modern” look, but watching your videos I know I’m farmhouse at heart. Keep up the great work!!

      Minimal and simple is totally in the modern aesthetic and it is perennially comfortable and accessible. This never really goes out of style.

      I was the same way. I thought I was a modern person too but I have realized I’m more modern farmhouse. Love brass but also looooove white glass.

    If you insert your pins perpindicular to the edge of the fabric edge you can sew right over them without having to remove them while you sew. Love the blanket!

      Homebody Heaven can you explain this a little better please?❤️

    • @homebodyheaven6114
      @homebodyheaven6114 6 років тому +2

      Kim Carter Sorry. If the straight pins are inserted perpendicular the the cut edge of the fabric you can sew right across them. When they are horizonal to the edge you have to remove each one when you sew up to it before you can go on. Does that make sense? In the video she has the pins horizontal, so needs to move them out of her way as she sews. It’s just a bit easier to not have to remove pins while stitching. But the results are the same.

    Gr8 idea Lisa for a project for use this summer. Didn't think my son would appreciate the ruffles like my daughter will. So, I will remedy this by doing a contrast piping instead. I can see it in my minds eye.😍😍😍. Thanks for a gr8 simple and practical project, right up my ally.😃

      I love tbe idea of using the floor to iron. It never crossed my mind. I will probably use a drop cloth when I steam a 6 meter piece of linen fabric in preparation for making clothing. Thanks for the idea!

    Thats really a light weight linen, using a mid grade weight would ensure the life of the piece
    I make all my quilts with linen backings usually I use Ralph Laurens upholstery linens which gives substantial weight to the quilts and ensures the life of each piece, Not to mention his linens are just so beautiful. The other thing is you can use the light weight batting of organic cotton or wool which ever you desire

      I made this five years ago for my mother and she uses it constantly and it’s still beautiful and in good condition, even though she has dogs crawling over at all the time. Linen it’s just kind of sturdy, and I think that was a good choice as the weight drapes beautifully. I use heavier linen for a lot of projects, and they just wouldn’t act the same way. They’d still be nice, but it would be a very different end result. I just came back to the channel to see the name of that linen and I can’t find it anywhere.
      I’ll find something similar, but I really did love that so much .

    I would love to see you make a dust ruffle for the bed. I have always wanted to make one as I can never find exactly what Happened want already made. It seems like a flat sheet would be the best way to go, then making a large ruffle to attach. This would also give me the ruffle length I need as my bed is on tho s bed extensions. Oh I also have an antique bed that I reupolstered and I would need to split my ruffle for the foorboard, as this is always a problem with store bought ruffles. I guess I could split them myself but then they are still too short, usually not as ruffled as I would like and never from the fabric I want. Watching you create patterns just makes me want to figure out my dream dust ruffle as I have never seen it in the store.

Trying to get a good sense of what they look like in real life before choosing which color I want to buy. I'm obsessed with linen and stripes so this will be perfect! Thank you for the lovely video as always. ❤️

    Do you find it rough on your table and floors to iron on them without a mat? Also do you ever use a cutting mat nd blade to cut your fabric? I watch you flip it and cut and it makes me smile. I am a bit OCD so use a mat and ruler lol.

    You’re really inspiring and helpful. What sewing machine would you recommend for a super beginner? And do you think it’s necessary to also purchase a serger machine?

    • @rebeccaanne3083
      @rebeccaanne3083 6 років тому

      Hi Kimmy, I am obviously not who you asked but I would recommend getting a used simple machine. Once without too many frills. I make a lot of clothes and always used my machine. I just recently bought a serger but my machine can do a nice seam...just slower:)

  • @rhondawilliams9449

    I am a beginner. I don't have a sewing machine so everything I do will need to be done by hand. I would like to make a nice soft, stuffed throw blanket. No ruffles. Any chance you could do a tutorial on a hand made throw. That would call for a close up on the hand stitches you make. Maybe one side linen and the other side flannel? Stuffed in between to give it that quilt feel. Is this even possible?

    • @slahsarah
      @slahsarah 4 роки тому

      Oh I was just reading the blog post too and I see that you get the ruffle from the excess of the width of the yardage vs taking it from the length. Never mind! Thank you so much for this tutorial! Basically everyone I know is getting one for CHristmas!

      Farmhouse on Boone I never thought to stand up and sew! I’m a dental hygienist, though I don’t work anymore, and it was always tricky standing up to polish people’s teeth because I’d have to stand on one foot to press the pedal with my other foot... I wonder if it’s the same way with sewing... I think it is quicker though because you’re not sitting and standing the whole time.
