You know what I love? How Steven is wise, gentle and real. I don't know about you, but I've gotten tired of all these experts telling us how to live and be from their zoom platforms and videos. I'm over it! Are you? Unless they themselves are real, don't lecture but share, and come from a place of humility - like Steven does.
@@alg8061 Co-sign. It’s crazy, I’ve looked at my UA-cam homepage, in recent times, and see the gurus (among other things) and I would think “noise.” From the clickbait titles. The thumbnail pics. 2020 has made me feel this way. I’ve had enough, too. I stopped listening to a lot of these people. I don’t miss them.
Something came to my mind... this era is kind of like the “movie star” effect. I remember as a kid (i am 40yrs old now) EVERYONE wanted to be on tv and be an actor, that was “the thing”. I feel now that the tools to be ur “own movie star” has become readily available to us at out fingertips BUT at a cost... our mental stress and wellbeing. Think of all the stress actors have with their daily but the difference isssss they have a camera person they have a writer they have a makeup person, a director and so on. Our era is putting on the stress mentally to take this all on their OWN to be on Instagram, UA-cam etc. YESsss this is sooo much pressure for one person to achieve standing out from the rest, ALL to get ur message across 1000 percent!!
I was introduced to Pressfield by my older brother in 2001 when he was in BUDs he sent me Gates Of Fire and it completely changed my perception and came into my life at the time I needed it most.
It amazes me watching people continue building the idea off other people's ideas. You did truly honor your guest. You have much power, my friend. Communication is magical ✨
Oh boy! I've just started re-reading War of Art for the umpteenth time, and it's slapping me in the face all over again. So excited for this interview.
Steven Pressfield is my HERO ❤ GOD BLESS THIS GENTLEMAN 🙌🏾 so humble it's unbelievable my head would float if I was him 😅 Thank you so much for doing this interview and adding even MORE value. I will certainly be watching it again. this time pen in hand.
1.12.50 about the ego. I agree. The ego is definitely necessary for me, without it I don't think I would feel the need to improve. I like to think of it as one of my advisors. I would also like to share a scene I lived in my first experience with Ayahuasca. I was in a war room, sitting at a table with the intelligences that live inside me and sometimes take control. I identified the ego, recognised it and had the opportunity to tell it this: I know you have the best intention in your heart for me and sometimes I will let you take control, but I am the one who makes the decisions. Then he smiled, nodded and said that he agreed. From that moment on I feel that he is my ally. Thank you, Aubrey and Steven.
Thank you to SEO that lead me to this amazing talk. So glad I discovered you Aubrey. I read books by Steven before and listened to a few of his talks. Will definitely follow you now! I love your minds and your collective energy. One of the best talks and I listen to a lot!!! I salute you.
This was such a beautiful conversation! Loved how the two of you recognize each other as mentor's and understand the valuable insight & "Art" that everyone can bring to the table. Love and Gratitude
Aubrey: I love your interview of Steve! Now I'm a fan of yours too! I can see why Steve wanted to use some of your clips. You are a brilliant & articulate Black young man! Steve is passing the baton to you!
Passio has it all wrong. Slavery of humanity IS the opportunity of humanity. It's a gift we've been given that serves as the 'gravity, the grind stone' Aubtey speaks of here in this interviewby which we get to set ourselves free and self actualized. Without it, it would be like working out on the moon with kettle bells and as taught here ... without any real resistance, no stress to push back against from which growth occurs. Embrace your slavery. Don't discount or cheapen it. Give thanks that you're in bondage. When you eventually break free, then you know that true growith has occured. Relying on your slave masters to set you free is akin to going into Planet Fitness and expecting to make gains by having your instructor / trainer do the hard work for you. Passio has it all wrong. Instead of b$√ching, moaning and bellyaching about the tyranny, he ought to be giving thanks for it and celebrating the potential victory that can come from it. This probably explains why be is so angry and frustrated all of the time and suffering meltdown after meltdown and why he has virtually given up on doing 'the work' and rarely posts on his channel any more. He's coming at it from the entirely wrong perspective, albeit the truths he shares and teaches about are spot on, he's got NO WEIGHT on the bar. And whatever you do, NEVER SKIP LEG DAY. Have you seen Mark's legs? They are boney and frail for not wanting to lift the heavy weight called slavery. He would profit by watching this episode. And finally, just remember God Loves loves ❤️ and believes in you. Thanks 🇺🇸🏋️💪
I don’t believe public figures, much less motivational Gurus, understand what a turn off it is when they go political. Why? Because when I want politics I go to a politician. I don’t. I don’t go to MSM either. It’s an intrusion. Even Pressfield himself prefaced his statement with same. He knows this but he went on anyway. It derailed his other messages. Marcus is a great example of keeping his politics out.
Great interview! Thanks for sharing this conversation. My all time favorite book is, “Gates of Fire.” I’ve read it six times and have shared it and gifted it several times as well.
As I compose this, I'm only about thirty-some minutes in, but couldn't resist chiming in: absolutely, seeking a new narrative that doesn't rely on philosophical misanthropy, or push us back into the false dichotomies of party politics is crucial to our current situation. In this connection, a figure of note is Murray Bookchin (1921-2006), an American anarchist who was amongst the founding figures of ecological (as opposed to merely environmental) thinking. He himself was pushed to the margins in part for his vocal opposition precisely to the anti-humanism which colored much green activism. Two essays of his deserving of consideration in this regard, "Social Ecology vs. Deep Ecology - A Challenge for the Environmental Movement", and "What is Social Ecology?", I can only recommend. As something of a postscript, Bookchin was committed to a secular narrative, and as such at times evidences an unfortunate animus against sacred traditions. Despite that, his lucid treatment of this (and other issues) seems to me to merit recollection. Thank you, Aubrey and Stephen for this compelling and sensitive interview!
Great podcast and amazing conversation. Steven Pressfield never lets the audience down. P.S: I love the image quality of your podcast. Could you please share the name of the camera you use? I´d be really thankful.
Aubrey You read Patrick Rothfus!? YES!!! Now even a bigger fan haha. Wise Man's Fear is absolutely transcendent. Such a fun conversation, thanks Steven; you are always a GODSEND to listen to!
Love Your videos, keep up the good work! ;) btw, have You ever heard of spiral dynamics? Im asking in the context of the topics You were talking about, especially individualism and collectivism.
1:26:11 This speech that he's talking about here, was it recorded or available online anywhere? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. 'Brand', like 'the selfie', reeks of narcissism. How could I, in all good conscience, and in deference to my parents who were deeply decent, turn myself into something that was 'a brand'? (I would die of shame. Do we have that sort of shame anymore?). A 'brand' is a COMMERCIAL venture. And it's not that we should not be involved in the commercial, it is that ... to CONFUSE YOURSELF WITH WHAT IS BEING SOLD ... well, if prostitution is not anathema to oneself, then by all means, carry on. But 'brand' is about one thing and one thing only: Money. I think about how the '60s were revolutionary ... because the message that came up from out of the ground, in our music and art and literature (not to mention the eruption of 'The Spiritual') was birthed from YOUNG voices, was about putting money to the side ... and seeking deeper meaning. What BEGAN THEN, has come around again ... but it's strange to see that those clinging to materialism, madly taking selfies and chasing fame... without any sense of there being something really 'off' about it ... are the young. And it is all as soulless as 'online dating' ... my heart breaks. What is really marvelous is to encounter ... is a conversation like this. Thank you Aubrey and thank you Steven. I loved the two of you coming together. Such sweetness.

Trump is missing morals Steven? Like being against abortion? Like being against bigotry towards the lgbtq community? Like creating economic programs for those in poverty?

Agreed! I feel like this when I watch Robert Greene's interviews too.
Have the same thoughts lately. It feels like noise when these online gurus speak.

One of your best Aubrey . Beautiful , truly life changing conversation . Thank you .

May I ask who was the one that told this to the ego?
@@biocykle Sure, the way I see it, the one who finally has the power of decision is the observer.
The being who watches the thoughts.
This was one of the best conversations about creative process ever.Thank you guys!

“The slavery of humanity is the problem, living according to NATURAL LAW is the solution” Mark Passio

I guess it's kind of randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to watch newly released series online ?
@Orion Jonas Try FlixZone. You can find it by googling =)
@Deshawn Augustus Yea, I've been watching on Flixzone for months myself :)

Goethe had a similar distinction of “heroes journey” and “artist’s journey”. He called them “Lehrjahre” and “Wanderjahre”
That's interesting to know
I was waiting for this!
Love the intro!!!
Richard Rohr: Falling Upward is the book name Pressfield was talking about. It is an excellent read and resource.
@Preston Hall thank you for that useful remark!

Thinking you have a right to put someone else in the category of not deserving love is complete arrogance.
I’ve never seen Steven dressed like that!

Many intelligent souls that get it so wrong with regards to president Trump.
The Spartans, Alexander the maniac and the Athenians were horrible people. Not all of them, but a lot of them.

Write a book called:
"the war of art sex and the art of war in porn".
Just two grown men bickering huh? Yeah cause if the other guy won those 12 marines and a corpsman would've still been killed in Kabul right?
Wish he didn’t taint this conversation with his political views.
Um, I don’t want this guy to be my leader. Steven maybe. But definitely not the other guy. Yikes.
Onnit selling snake oil since 2011 🤣

i just skip the aubrey parts
