OK, I'm giving up bacon.
Yea, I felt kinda bad about the gyoza after I remembered there's pork in them. :(
Pigs have about the same intelligence as a human toddler! I could never eat them again now that I know more about them!
This was really well edited! Impressive work Jasmine. I hope we can do more videos together soon!
It was such a great time! :) Thank you. Of course, I'd love to collab again! :) I have some more places I wanna try.... heh heh heh
Hello do you know me
Awesome video 😊
Good job ladies 👍
Good job you two grown women. Stay happy and read the holy scriptures. Every part of the world has their problems.
Great clip. Aiming maybe visit Taiwan again as a student or a different job. 😀
Oriental Pearl brought me here. Now I'm also a subscriber of yours. This video was very informative, especially since I will be moving to Japan. I wish your channel success.
Hi! Welcome to Enlightize. :) Thank you for your kind words. I hope you like my other videos too. :)
The first time I studied in Japan in 2007/2008 I used to talk about Japan all the time. I started to realize people found it annoying so I stopped talking about it. Now people are shocked when I tell them I’ve lived abroad or traveled overseas like “why have you never mentioned it?!” And I’m like “😅😅😅” I’m sorry Oriental Pearl’s dad shuts her down whenever she wants to talk about her life in China/Japan. I would take it very personally if my parent said that and it would hurt.
It's been tough for sure. It was even worse when my grandpa was still alive. He used to tell me I threw my entire life away and yell at me. I guess it was his way to cope with missing me.
@@OrientalPearl “hurt people hurt people”
@@OrientalPearl damn that’s harsh
Yes, in the US the food portions can be huge compared to Japan. Anming is so observant. thank you for this video.. 上手に作られましたね、楽しかった
よかった。I'm glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Oh my goodness, if you were in my family, I'd love to talk to you about Japan and China. Especially about geopolitics in Asia (specifically Korean Peninsula, Japan, Taiwan, and China) Jasmine, this is one of your best guest interviews.
Thank you, Akino, for your kind words and compliment. :)
Excellent video!!
Thank you! :D
Great video! Great conversations! Please do more! I'm an American living abroad and I agree with many points you make! Well done👍! Very positive video!
Hey! Thank you for watching. Where are you currently living? :)
I really like the discussion on talking with family about your experiences abroad. I find it relatable. My family typically does not even like to try food outside of their norm so I've often been described as snooty or even called "weirdo" when I talk about anything different for them.
It's tough, right? I've kind of reached the point of just keeping new discoveries to myself and allowing my family to share theirs with me instead. It seems to keep the peace that way and I'm able to avoid the typical name-callings of "Know-it-all, lecturing, snobby, etc." Our families love us though, and I think they just want to keep an even playing field for everyone to relate to. At least, this is what I think. This is where friends become very important.
Well personally I feel, those who would allow the market dynamism determine when to trade or not are either new in crypto currency world in general or probably just naive, crypto currencies have seen far worse times and even better times than this, enlightened traders continue to make good use of the dip even acquiring more equities towards trading sessions, 6 months back I started trading, though i knew just the basics of trading, I've seen a lot of money been made from crypto trading just within weeks, i wasn't able to capture the secret to understanding the use of signals till I got connected to trading expert Otis Perry. Under his guide I've been able to understand the market structure and how best to use signals for amazing returns, plus his trading classes has been so educative, Otis makes you learn while earning massively alongside, Otis Perry can be contacted for crypto inclined concerns Telegrm @ Perrysignals or Whatsapp: +16624830231
I haven't eaten pork for awhile unless I'm at a restaurant and people are sharing.
Yea, in the States I had stopped eating pork. I remember when I first came to Japan thinking that everyone mostly ate fish, but was shocked to find SSOOOOO much pork EVERYWHERE.
Kudos.
Thank you! :D
I live in Korea and I agree about people feeling like you are talking down to them or something like I feel like such an asshole for no reason when saying “in korea...” but this is my life now there isn’t really a way around it, friends from home actually ignore my messages sometimes and I feel it’s for that reason, especially when talking about COVID with koreas great handling of it they feel like I am comparing the countries but I am still an American just like them at the end of it all.
YUP! Before, when I would talk about the cool things I found in Japan, or just my day that included something that we don't have in the U.S., I would feel bad and I had no idea why. I was simply stating a fact. I did not say it was good or bad, simply in Japan it exists. But, I would feel weird and oftentimes the response would be, "Well here we have (something that seems better and comparable to the item in Japan I described....)" I didn't mean it as a comparison, just that it exists and is relevant to the story I'm telling about my day. That thing is not the point of my story! >.<
Another reason why I gave up.
I feel this! Someone told me I must wish I was born Chinese.. the people that get angry because you travel or know other languages and aren’t close minded are bitter sad souls.
9:42 Really hit different 😪 not being able to openly discuss new experiences with your own family must be hard
Yea, when you experience this for so long you adapt to learning how to keep the peace in conversations in comparison to sharing your experiences and what you learned.
Sorry to hear about both of your families not showing interest in your life ): just know we love hearing about it ❤
Thank you, and that's probably why both of us have turned to UA-cam. Hahahaha. But I'm sure our families love us and don't mean any harm.
I didn’t even realize this video was 15 minutes long. You two should do a part two! You choose very interesting topics and keep the conversation going in a way that it kept my interest. Keep up! New subscriber here!
Hey Kali! Thank you for that. Welcome to my channel. :) I'm so happy you liked the topic. :)
I can totally understand what you mean. When talking enthusiastically about the country I've been living in for the past three years (Germany), I noticed that people take it as bragging and implicitly suggesting that the country I live in is better than my home country. At first it made me very sad and confused. Why can't my family share my happiness and accomplishments? With time, I just accepted it and avoided talking too "highly" of my life abroad, or stopped taking about it altogether. Maybe they are frustrated because they feel as if my home country and family couldn't provide an environment where I could thrive and be happy in... I don't know. I don't have any suggestions to make it easier but I wanted to thank you for making me feel less alone in this :)
I'm glad so many people can relate to this topic. When Anming said that she keeps quiet was the first time I felt someone was able to relate to this struggle. It really sucks, but it's not the end of the world. Unfortunately, it does make a gap between you and your loved ones, as they alienate themselves from knowing more about the other side of you that you developed while living abroad. Seeing so many people face this same issue is somehow comforting. I wish you the best in Germany! :)
Sometimes the conversation gets to be to much. I had a friend that came back from somewhere so a bunch of us went out to eat. The person couldn't stop talking about the place they visited. The restaurants are so different, the food is so different, the waiters are so different, the menus are so different. So we changed the subject to baseball and it started again. Baseball is so different, the fans are so different, the food they serve is so different. It happened every time we talked about anything always comparing and contrasting, hate to say it but we didn't talk to that person for a little while.
There is this strange sort of cultural insecurity that people will have to anything outside of their own experiences, and this is what a lot of people seem to mean when they talk about "the elites" - they're anxious or insecure about being talked down to or not being able to contribute something as interesting, so they'll want to shut off that avenue of discussion.
Maybe. I stopped trying to justify why I kept getting the same response and why they behaved like that. I just know that they want the best for me, even if it doesn't always show.
Great video! Both of you guys are gorgeous physically and mentally 👍🏿
Thank you for your kindness! 😊
Jasmine you’re so pretty!
Thank you for your kindness 🥰
hi hello oriental pearl. good day sensie. teach me how to improve my japanese language 😍😍
Whoa, my two fav people together! すごい。。嬉しい 面白い
I think it was YOU who also requested me to collab with her, right? :)
Japan is a great country and the ppl appear to be quite polite
being in Japan for a few months I started saying "Um um um um um" When people talked.
I remember you saying that! Lol
I do this after watching 100s of videos where they pretty much say "Um um um". Not even in Japan. It's crazy how you can pick up on stuff without noticing
Fascinating interview. I’m an American and I would experience a similar reaction of being accused of being snobby when I would talk about the limited travel experiences I had. You guys built a whole new life around it. Such a shamed that you can’t freely share that love with your close ones. Thanks for sharing such intimate details. I hope both of your families are watching so that they see how it’s challenging and maybe they’ll come around.
Hi Duy. Thank you for your comment. It sucks, right? Sometimes you just want to share the amazing things you saw somewhere else, but the listener doesn't want to hear it. It's ok though. There are other people out there, right? I wish you the best. 😊
Living abroad makes you a better person compared to your former self. It has made a world of difference to me. Thanks for sharing your views!
I completely agree. Thank you! 🙏
This was a heart-warming looking into a slice of life in Tokyo. Nice work!
Thank you for your comment, Toucan88. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I have another slice of life video here: ua-cam.com/video/aBt1JRcHtn4/v-deo.html
Nice guns, ladies 💪💪
I always love hearing the culture and politics of other countries, it's one of the things I openly encourage people to talk about - especially over drinks. The way they would passionately tell me about their experiences, their views - I love it because I want to do the same.
With that said, I would feel really bummed if I can't even talk about anything about a place that's part of me around people I know. Having stories to tell is one of the fun aspects of traveling, and this goes all the way back in history no matter where in the world you are
I agree. I too love hearing about people's adventures from around the world. I now realize that my family just isn't interested, so there's no need to try to force them to be.
1) Do you consider Japan as a highly developed and advanced country ?
2) How would you personally rate Japan (from culture to technology, architecture, food, scenery/landscape, standard of living/quality of life, etc.) on a scale level of 1 to 10 ?
3) If you have 3 words or more to describe Japan, what would it be ?
Love your channel! Greetings from Virginia/USA ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much! I'm from Maryland/Washington, D.C.. :) Right next door.
Came from oriental pearl. But this is a nice video! This so sad that your families don't want to hear because it so awesome learning about all the different things out there. Hopefully you both can find a way!
Thank you so much and welcome to my channel. I know our families have the best intentions...
Maybe because living in a foreign country isn't something that makes you any cooler or better than the next. I'm sure her family is pretty much over hearing about it after the first 100 times. Wow you live in Japan, amazing, so cool, lucky you, blah blah blah.
The real question is... Who does dreads in Japan?
Hey! I collabed with someone else, where spoke specifically about this: ua-cam.com/video/QT7wBwkzu3w/v-deo.html
Enjoy :)
Even if you don’t go abroad, just being a language enthusiast usually means you’re not doing stuff in your free time that you can’t talk to other people about much.
11:30 I feel the same way!
As a fellow Michigander, I can confirm that Michigan is boring 😂
Great video!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
LOVED THIS!!!
I’m happy you did!
Loved this. Editing on point!
Hey!! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for the comment, and I hope you're doing well. :D
@@Enlightize Hey!😊 ur welx. I am, thanks. And obv u are too! So inspiring to see ur continued growth🙌🏾💃💃
I don't know from where come that confidence that people from USA have. Sometimes they don't know absolutely nothing about the subject and still speak that way. This is really weird
YUP. Hahahahaha. I think we focus a lot on just having an opinion versus if it is valid or not. But that's just my personal opinion. Lol. ;)
I learned that hard way in Japan about sharing my opinion too strongly. I’m not even a very opinionated person by American standards but I guess sharing our personal point of view is engrained in us even if we don’t realize it. I realized later I probably ruffled feathers. It’s hard sometimes to suppress who you’ve been your 25+ years but you learn to tone it down, at least after you’ve made some mistakes and read the room. Also, I have a terrible time making eye contact since returning to the US 2 years ago.
Yea. When I talk to certain family members back home I feel like I have to lock up the part of myself that I use every day here in Japan and bring out the image of me they want to see instead of the reality of who I have become and who I really am. All parts are pieces of me, but I wish all parts could be accepted without backlash. I'm no victim though. I know how to cope with this now. :)
Friends and family generally cannot relate to the experiences of their expat kids and friends. People living in the same country will share a more similar communicative style than those who you have known from your home country regardless of who they are. This is my experience anyway. I can relate to EVERYTHING you guys have said in this video. Serious props to you both for making this video.
I completely agree with this comment. Thank you! I can't reiterate enough how comforting it is to see so many people relating to what Anming and I have stated in the video. Wishing you the best!

guys am i too old to pursue a 2nd degree in japan(im 24), I already have 1 degree but i hate it as it was forced by my parents.
You're never too old to pursue another degree. You should definitely apply! Yea, you may be a little older than many other people (probably not everyone) but so what?! If age is a factor for you, just go for your Masters here. You'll find people closer to your age.
@@Enlightize wow thank you so much for your kind reply! and i've made up my mind i will try for a second degree!
I remember visiting that same little hole in the wall place at 6:53 during my last visit but could never remember where it was. What is the name of that restaurant?
